Wow.... seriously?
(2) Alterations of a politicians name, or any other high-profile political figure, for disparaging political effect is not allowed, including within member avatars and signatures.

Rats...that means my newly discovered "Trumpelstiltskin" is out!

I'd still prefer that ATS allow mangling politico's names.

It's a quick, short-hand way to send a message.

And, imho, they WELL DESERVE IT.

Besides, how many folks think that most politicos HAVE good names to protect?

just imho.

Been trying to be a scrupulous good boy about it . . . but it is soooooooooooooo tempting.

Besides, it was one of my favorite recreations.

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Short take: Be cool, my good man.

Thanks for your kind reply.

Thanks for your exhortation. That's always something crucial to keep in mind.

However, we are also called to judge rightly . . . and to call a spade a spade.

Current politicos are . . . excessive . . . in horrible stuff to point at.

I don't necessarily think that it is haughty "critical judgment" to note their crap in plain terms.

Christ Himself called the pharisees a "brood of vipers," "sons of satan," "white-washed tombs" etc.

Yeah, it was Him--the perfect judge. However, He did call us to judge rightly.

I guess there's three types of judgement:

Courts - legal, supposedly unbiased, panel of peers, etc.
Public Opinion - word of mouth, biased, knee-jerk lynchings, etc.
Personal - based on principles, past history, vengeful, often criminal, secretive grudges, mockery, libel, etc.

On those phrases you mentioned, are they directly attributed to Jesus or are they comments via the writings of others, but attributed to Jesus second-hand?

I can see why ATS doesn't like the alteration of political names as they may incite others of differing opinion (to) fling their own poo right back.

Then readers get to see what a poo-flinging contest looks like.

Those were quotes from the Gospels. Direct quotes of Yeshua by observers who were there and who wrote it down while others who were there at the time were still alive.

. . . contrary to a lot of ignorant "scholarship" to the contrary on the dating of the writings.

I see SOME merit in folks who are writing to avoid being toooooooooooo extreme--particularly toooooooooo often.

However, I think I take a dim view of making the author RESPONSIBLE

for the READER'S self-control.

I think that's a bad focus and dynamic.

And, it is demeaning to the reader, imho.

The author is entirely responsible for what they write and many have suffered the ultimate sacrifice for their efforts.

Or they have risen to public acclaim.

The reader and author, however, shall always be an unknown entity here, on a website that hides identities behind a fictional username. This 'hidden identity' is in large part responsible for Terms and Conditions which try to regulate civil conversation, because, as we all know, it's easy to say whatever comes to mind and never take actual personal responsibility for rude, trollish comments. Not like published authors do.

All I know about you (from your posts) is that we are both about the same age, but that's all. The vast majority of members that I've come across here I only know by the words they type and that's OK by me.

By their actions words I shall know them.
