You're still not understanding. I believe this was the logical inference he was making (and by the by he didn't specifically say Rush, he said anyone who uses this type of language):

People who use nazi terminology shouldn't be taken seriously,

Rush used nazi terminology,

Therefore, Rush should not be taken seriously if he continues to use nazi terminology

It was not a gesture of friendly concern, you are completely correct about that. His wording was a rhetorical syllogism where he used the arguments of nazism and Rush's use of it to have the observer draw a conclusion:

deductive reasoning in which a conclusion is derived from two premises

Source

You don't have to say the syllogism to create it: the language makes the implication to the observer. The implication here is that Rush is making himself look foolish by comparing the WH to the nazis.

Ok, then what was meant by telling Rush he is on thin ice?

The statement made by Gibbs was:

i think anytime anyone ventures to compare anything to that, they're on thin ice...

I think it means that anyone calling people Nazis are putting themselves in a place that allows them to be looked down on. You can't debate intelligently with someone that just calls you a Nazi. And you shouldn't expect to be taken seriously if you use those tactics.

And to answer your question regarding Pelosi:

She's an idiot and should have been removed from office long before she had the chance to make a remark like that.

For those that think that comparisons to Nazis are going too far, I assume that you believe that it could "never happen again". I hate to tell you, but it has happened numerous times "again". I could name dozens of countries that have used the same tactics as the Nazis used. Some of those tactics are now being used in the US. Only a fool would deny that it IS happening here.
Both political parties (really one) use those tactics, and each time their supporters refuse to see through their partisan blinders, as to what is happening.
There are too many parallels to Germany in the 1930's. They've been mentioned countless times, but for those that really wish to keep an open mind, just go to any site that gives a review of the tactics and economic landscape of Germany in the 1930's. Do some research and learn some history. Remember that those that fail to learn from the mistakes of the past, are doomed to make those mistakes again.
Can America afford to allow itself to sink into the same mistakes?

They managed to get a universal defense of LIMBAUGH for cripes sake. OMFG they are so done for, it's all over. No one trusts the criminals, the delusion has vanished. They are begging for trouble.

I think when people refer to Obama (or bush) as "Nazi's", what they are really referencing is or comparing them to is Fascists/Fascism. Hitler was just a prime example of a Fascist and makes for a good reference.

Would it make everybody feel better if those making the reference used Mussolini instead of Hitler as their example??

Look at the bottom right photo from RawStory:

"NO TO FASCISM! (With a crossed out Swastika)"

en.wikipedia.org...

Fascist governments forbid and suppress criticism and opposition to the government

Are there any current examples of the current administration/congressional-regime trying to suppress criticism and opposition to the government?
Yes there are.

This is nuts. The people sitting here making excuses for this administration. This is a thinly veiled threat is exactly what it is.

There is no reason for him to mention "anybody being on thin ice" ESPECIALLY after setting up an e-mail address trying to get people to rat out people for disagreeing with this administration. The have singled out private citizens multiple times now. And now busing in Union jackbooks to block the peoples right to ask their congress people questions?

This is sickening. And this is all happened just this WEEK....

What the # is wrong with these people defending this administration.

Fascist tactics, communist tactics, what is the difference? There isn't one.

Some how, some way Professor people seem to forget that Chancelor Obama actually campaigned for the United States Presidency by speaking at a rally in Berlin???

That's right Herr Obama really did visit Berlin and gave a campaign speech there lest we forget.

Now why do you imagine he did that? It wasn't a swing through Ramstien or some other Military Base crawling with U.S. Service Personnel it was to Germans where the good Herr Obama promised to make Germans proud again!

Now where would anyone get the idea he's a Nazi from?

This is an exact repeat of the 1930's, staged economic collapse around the world, an exploitable racial divide, a rush to nationalize various enterprises and functions, and most of it is being orchestrated by the Grand Children of the people responsible for it in the 1930's.

People do like to think it could never happen and that it will never happen but the reality is that it is actually happening and it is being done in plane sight and in obvious ways because they do know, that hardly anyone will accept it's happening until it's too late.

Facism is alive and well in Amerika today and it's headquarters is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

There was absolutely no threat in what Obama's people said. It was civilized and reasonable, a proper response to Limbaugh's ad hominem attack against Obama.

There is something called "Godwin's Law", which states that any discussion that goes on long enough will eventually result in someone accusing their opponent of being a Nazi. According to the law, whoever does that loses the argument.

A little off topic, but fascism has always been popular with the elites. Eugenics was the centerpiece of their programs. As covered in the Alex Jones film "Endgame" Hitler was inpsired by American Eugenics.

A little graphic at the start:
part 1

part 2

Just because Nazi Germany fell, don't delude yourself into thinking that a similar type of gov't can't come back into power.

As far as Gibbs go, why even give Rush the time of day? Why not say "He has his opinion and in this country he's free to express himself. I'm not going to waste time discussing him" There's no need for the "on thin ice" comment. Obama is such a narcissit that he can't stand people not agreeing with him. If his poll numbers continue to drop, I think he might have a breakdown or something.

Hitler rose to power by befriending the disenfranchised soldiers and those of the right-wing ideology that disliked the incredibly socialist Weimar Republic (did you know it was the most socialist government in Europe at the time?). Then he created an enemy out of the Communists in Germany and began to target them. Then he targeted the Jews and other minorities.

Hitler's movement was founded on violence, racial supremacy, and hate from its inception.

Germany was broke, people were eating cats and dogs for food, gangs of Communists and gangs of blue hats were targeting each other in cities. Over half the country didn't have a job. They were desperate.

That is obviously a completely different situation. How many of your neighbors have been eating their pets lately? How many Republicans/Democrats have gunned down each other in the streets lately?

As far as his campaign speech goes, are you suggesting he gave a campaign speech to Germans promising to make them proud by making Germany Nazi again? I'd think the Germans might be a little insulted that you believe they're waiting to return to the "glory days" of Hitler.

I can appreciate your sentiments but prey tell, how do you know the economy is not going to keep getting worse?

Because they tell you it's not going to?

How do you know these policies aimed at curtailing free speech and the right to protest aren't going to keep getting worse?

How do you know that if the economy completely tanks and people scream for some change in government that it's not going to turn into a racial issue?

It is far better to be vigil and prepared and wrong, than it is to be complacent, and in denial and wrong.

Trillions of dollars have been systematically looted from our treasury with much of it going to corporations owned by the wealthiest people in the world.

American jobs have been exported to Mexico, China and Japan in the millions.

A serious and credible effort is being made to rush through Health Legislation that can open the door to Eugenics.

Huge corporations are being bought by the government and unions with tax payer money through other rushed legislation and you aren't the least little bit alarmed?

Berlin is the seat of the Holy Roman Empire and that's why Obama spoke there. It's why Hitler rose from there.

Oh but the Holy Roman Empire is dead and gone burried in 1811.

Who financed the Third Reich? Rockefeller, DuPont, Warberg, Harriman, Bush, et all.

Who smuggled the high ranking Nazis out of Germany the OSS, CIA and the Vatican.

Where did most of them end up? The United States of Amerika.

We are facing a very troubling potential situation here. Your words might be comforting to you, but they sure don't mean a thing to me!

History repeats itself and those who are ignorant of real history are really doomed to repeat it.

Explain to me if you can Obama's desire to have a million man paramilitary civilian security force outside of the Military and Pentagon Chain of Command as well funded and equiped as the U.S. Army?

Selective hearing can be dangerous in the world friend.

This is all a precurser to World War III and the destruction of America which is the only real obsticle to a one world government and a New World Order.

The Obama way is just another word for the Apian Way, and the best way for all these bad things to really happen and they are happening is for good people to pretend they can't.

They can, and they are.

Excellent point... So I wasn't the only one throwing stuff at the TV screaming WTF is a US Senator (seemingly) campaigning in foreign countries...

Yet NO ONE but you and I, seemingly, even considered this completely extraordinary and unconstitutional (in spirit.)

As I've claimed in other posts, It's my suspicion that he left the country to get out from under the Patriot Act, phone taps etc... To make contact with his crony's in other countries letting them know what his plans were and to get their input.

Once out of the country, any scrambled communications would be impossible to prove anything covert. Since he'd likely be using their equipment to communicate.

That's the ONLY thing that makes sense at this point. I found out way after the fact that he was speaking to a crowd that was really there for a concert and he didn't really draw all of that crowd alone.

It's my belief that when statements come from the white house saying "we are right on target" in response to "we just lost 400,000 jobs last month" ... they aren't lieing to us at all. They want to ruin it all; in the name of Anti.Bush/Anti.GOP.

Some of you seem to have pretty poor comprehension of what he said and was getting at, even the infowars title of the article is taking it out of context. He didn't say Rush was on thin ice, he said "I think anytime anyone ventures to compare anything to that, they are on thin ice." referring to calling others nazis which is a reasonable statement.

Gibbs is the perfect example of this. The guy is the most bumbling moron I've ever seen in position.

Are you kidding? He's by far the best Press Secretary compared to anything Bush had. Ari Flischer, the big rolly polly guy, guy with cancer, and that stupid chick that didn't know what the Bay of Pigs was. The big rolly polly guy even went to admit how stupid things were and wrote a book on it!!

I'm sort of shocked how things have been on here lately. Some things get blown way out of proportion. Bush did some pretty bad things and they were lamentable, but you guys are freaking out over nothing but you try to make ever single thing an issue.

"I think anytime anyone ventures to compare anything to that, they are on thin ice."

And who exactly are they on thin ice with? You do realize this is coming from the press secretary of the POTUS right? You do realize they set up a program for people to turn in people that are spreading "disinfo" about their agenda right? You do realize they sent in the Union jackboots to "hit back" at the protesters trying to air their grievances with the government right?

If you can't see what is going on right in front of your eyes then I don't know what to tell you. The fact is you can say Nazis, Lenin-Stalinists, Maos, Pol Pots, etc. The tactics are all the same.

Edit to add -

Let me also remind you this as all happened in a matter of one week.

I have been listening to Rush off and on - mostly on - for twenty years. I haven't listened to him lately because it's just a four-hour rant against Obama and the Democrats. I'm not a fan of either, but it gets monotonous listening to the same thing over and again. I agree Rush should be able to say anything he wants - within reason.

My biggest problem I feel is this: Rush no longer believes what he is saying. He's been doing this for over twenty years. He's a very rich man and he just has to spout something controversial everyday and he'll get richer. Rush used to be cutting edge. Now he's just a regurgatator. I love you, Rush, but please retire.

In reality some of the Powers that Be are so powerful you are going to travel to them if and when you have an audience or are summoned.

For instance about the same period in time Obama was in Berlin doing a campaign speech, McCain was in France having a sit down lunch with Lady Rothschild at her home.

Why would McCain be having lunch with the wife of the world's reputed wealthiest man at their palacial estate in France while he was in the midsts of a crucial Presidential Campaign.

To recieve the news that he was going to loose the campaign of course.

Obama is a CIA Manchurian Candidate recruited out of Oxydental College and likely targeted by the Covert Intelligence Community and groomed from birth much like Hitler was, by having a whole lot of important doors suddenly and inexplicably open for him. Harry Reid was CIA Station Cheif in Indonessia while a young Barry Sorreto went to school there.

Obama, McCain, the Bushes, Rockefellers and the Rothschilds of the world don't have to worry about the Patriot Act as the Patriot Act is really for their exclusive protection.

Germany is the ancestoral home of most of the American Power that Be Oligarchs, it's where the current British Royalty originate from. It's where the Holy Roman Empire openly ruled the world from for almost a 1,000 years.

It's where the Rothschild Family began to publicly amass it's fortune.

It's a very important place to the Powers that Be, it just really sucks being a German and having to live there through all their nonsense!

The Powers that Be controll both sides of the politcal aisle, they just use each side for a different purpose and a different agenda at different times.

Obama is not the architecht of Obama, Obama is a carefully crafted, molded, scripted product designed for a very specific agenda to be used at a very specific point in time, in a very specific way.

I doubt things will turn out well for him in the end, he's really not his Masters kind of guy.

Like Hitler they will set him up and leave him out to dry when the grander plan he sets in motion for them runs it's course.

Barry isn't the smartest kid in the class, let me tell you!

[edit on 8/7/2009 by Lemon.Fresh]

I agree, I don't really like Limbaugh, I think he has done a lot of damage to the Republican Party by not parsing all of his words...however, the media is totally twisting his words around on comparing Obama to Hitler. He's not saying that Obama is a genocidal maniac, he is saying they both dictate what they want, and both use their "silver tongue" to accomplish it. That's a fair comparison. They also twisted Art Laffer's words around when he said something about Medicaid and Medicare being run by the government, when really he was saying a list of "wait until Medicare, Medicaid AND all health care is run by the government"...Olbermann would have you think otherwise and so would Paul Krugman. The media is getting progressively more and more liberal as the days roll by in defense of Obama's and Congress's policies. It's all coming to a head, I seriously doubt Obama will get a second term.

I also think that Obama's stance on this is also probably being taken out of context, or just blown out of proportion.
