The comment by the Whitehouse Press Secretery looks to me to be an observation, not a threat.

And IMO an accurate observation. Being on "thin ice" means the surface beneath your feet might sudenly collapse. Limbaughs "Nazi" rhetoric is likely to offend many supporters and has the potential to create a backlash for him.

Accurate observation...I don't read threat...admittedly I am not wearing my colored glasses today.

I have no time for any of these relentlessly partisan TV & radio bloviators, they're why I have pretty much entirely stopped watching TV news.

I had to star that one. Agreed. Rachel Maddow v. Bill O'Reilly, anyone?

The smart money is on Rachel IMO.

But I think she might be a vegetarian or perhaps doesn't eat pork.

My money is on Rachel Maddcow also!! Something about her tells me she is as tough as a 5lb box of 16d nails. O'Reilly may just end up shouting UNCLE with her.

I don't know, Maddow's vitriolic punditry maneuver may be countered quite effectively by O'Reilly's "Cut Her Mic" maneuver. It's a hard call...

Great find, SD.
I don't even know where to begin here. I think you could easily start a thread on this. Why don't you? There is so much disinformation in this 9 minute video, that I could write for hours on it.
Every sentence Matthew speaks is full of lies, hatred of middle class Americans and blue collar workers, and those that oppose Obama. According to hinm, such "uneducated" people are not capable of having opinions.
God, his words make my blood boil
Please start a thread on this. I'll certainly F & F it, and post to it.

I would start a thread but it is painful, lol

The trolls attack me and not the message.

Would it help to disclaim at the beginning of the post that you'll not bother with addressing rebuttals filled with ad hominem attacks? You'll still get the trolls (every thread does), but at least you've drawn your line.

This morning Rush made the point that the tactics of Pelosi, Obama and the left look a lot more Nazi (National Socialist Party) than do the right thinking Americans at the health care Town Hall meetings. Pelosi/ Obama are the ones who wrote up the legislation to carry health care towards socialized medicine like Hitler brought to Germany in the 30s. I think Obama's use of the union thugs to guard the gates looks more lot like Brown Shirt tactics.

Yes, there have been a lot of examples of Rush and similar folks comparing Democrats to Nazis. It's still an "argument of last resort" as pointed out by a prior contributor, and reinforcing that argument does little for your credibility. If you were making this argument in response to the USA Patriot Act, it might make a little bit more sense, but this is just partisan polemic.

I agree with Rush's assessment of Pelosi and Obama. What’s with the white house trying to silence any one???? It our God given right as American citizens to be able to voice out opinions about anything and anybody in any available venue we choose. Rush's venue is talk radio and people are tuning in. There is no reason for the White House to get involve. It was a stupid move. The only reason that the White House has gotten involved, in my opinion, is because Rush is getting too close to the truth.

Obama and his administration are making bold moves in the faces of the American people. Congressmen are no longer listening to their constituents and are in fact openly lying and ignoring them (us!). Bills have been and are currently being pushed through without being read and have laws and conditions contained therein that will change our lives forever if they are passed! The Administration is taking very bold steps to silence the opposition, for good.

This type of behavior is eventually going to come to a head. I believe it will be in the form of a catastrophic (or a series of) event(s) aimed directly at causing the citizens of America harm. And that would be a dark day in history and would mark the beginning of our end. This is purely speculation however.

What is very true, though is the fact that our country is fundamentally changing in front of our eyes. This drastic shift towards government controlled corporations is a page 1 out of the Nazi play book. In that respect socialized health care would be page 2; Removal of our right to bear arms would be page 3, etc. etc. The parallels to Germany's government in the 30's and 40's are uncanny. They are exacerbated by stories like the union's goons being involved in political strong-arming and the police standing by. The can be compared to what may soon become the Presidents SS Troops. Any one observed protesting or voicing their opinion about the government and goings on that will effect us all directly will be forced to hush up with violence. And we all know that problems solved with violence usually lead to more violence.

Rush won't let up. His answer to absurdity like this is to turn the fire up on them even more. IMO, Pelosi triggered this whole thing with the 'wearing swastikas' comment. She should be the one wearing the swastika. Maybe the phrase' turn that temperature down' isn't a direct threat, but it's not much better. I'd like to pose a big OR WHAT to that statement Gibb's made. What exactly are you guys going to do if Rush turns that temperature up a bit? Silence him for getting to close? Is Rush going to have a heart attack in the near future or something? A man can't speak his mind on the radio in this country anymore? Disgusting...

i say lets purge the government and start over, put people with no political experience in the game and make the only rules be they have to follow the constitution

they may make a couple mistakes

but at least there will be less corruption and bs, since bush took office, and including the obama administration it seems there has been nothing but bs

im not saying there wasnt bs before bush, but it does seem much more rampant ever since

I am somewhat puzzled by this claim. I kindly request you clarify so that I might better grasp your argument.

(Are you taking about Free Speech as defined in the First Amendment to the Constitution? The same one that declares separation of Church and State?) Granted, I'm not real savvy about such matters nor deeply religious which is why I ask about rights given by "GOD"

Is Rush going to have a heart attack in the near future or something?

It appears to me the man is approx. 50 pounds overweight, has a volatile temper, always sweating and stressed out and has a history of drug abuse. To me, he seems a likely candidate (no pun) for a self induced dirt nap all on his own.

I DO NOT believe he was "threatened" in any way, shape or form based on the video in OP.

The main point that I'm trying to get across is that the White House shouldn't have a statement telling an individual or a group of people to tone anything down. Americans across the country right now are upset with the way our leaders and the people who represent our voice in the government are all but turning their backs to what we really care about. This point is brought home even more since the outbursts of emotion and rage at the town hall meetings.

I am in no trying to persuade you to believe anything I say about God given rights. It's my belief that God gives every man the gift of freedom when they are born. What your or my beliefs in any religion is beside the point. That’s because it's our right by law as well. These union goons are not abiding by the law when they get violent with protesters, That’s corrupt by the laws of our country and is obviously wrong morally as well. It's every American's right to speak their opinions and ask questions of the people that we elected to represent us. It's also their responsibility to provide us with the truth and solid facts about what is going on in our government. That’s our money that pays for all of their salaries. It's our votes that put these people in the positions they're in. So we do have a say in what goes on.

As for Rush's weight and drug abuse... I know he's awfully close to his limits already. I was trying to figure out why Gibbs would tell an American citizen to change his behavior. Rush has broken no laws and was not vulgar over the radio. Therefor there should be no reason to address the issue at all unless Rush was saying things that they did not want the public to hear... Something closer to the truth than the White House appreciated being said publicly to a lot of people. Let's face it all is not ok with the new administration and Americans (including myself) are starting to wonder what’s really going on with our tax money? Why do we elect people to places in office who could care less about our concerns?

Now I'm certain you grasp my argument. It has nothing to do with my religion or your religion. It has to do with being an American.

Both sides have Godwin-ed the debate so they both lose. Trying get people on their side with emotional rhetoric with talk about Hitler and Nazi's, fails to address the intellectual points of either sides arguments. It' very sad what the infighting is doing to America these days. All they are doing is further polarizing the vast majority of Americans with anger and hatred by doing this.

With due respect, your premise is mistaken. The White House made no such statement. Mr. Gibbs was replying to a question about the tactic generally. The reporter gave examples of both Democrats and Republicans using that rhetoric. Gibbs gave an official statement saying Obama felt that the discussion could take place without such divisive rhetoric. Mr. Gibbs further gave his opinion, amounting to the notion that using that tactic jeopardizes the legitimacy of your argument. The White House didn't tell people what to say and they didn't single out Rush Limbaugh. They didn't even bring it up. Mr. Gibbs responded to a question he was asked.

Thanks for the images. Now hopefully you are not in the shallow end of the brain pool along with pelosi not understanding that the people protesting with swastikas are not neo-nazis, they are saying that the democrats are acting like neo-nazis!!!

Now this is funny..ironic ..funny ..yet also very sad.

This goes to demonstrate my point made previously about cultivating and grooming people on an emotional treadmill..not a thinking treadmill. Even the Democrats here yeild and cede to their emotions "FIRST"...without thinking and react ...not think or analyzing and then go forth to use/misuse this template to stroke other peoples emotions. They have no concept that the Nazi guilt programming could possibly apply to them...why they have the automatic moral high ground..do they not???!! Everyone knows this ..do they not...?? The democrat party automatically plays through on the moral high ground on any and everything...we all know this automatically...Right??!!

Dont turn your back to far here..the Republicans will do this as well..Hannity is textbook here...just be aware here how it works. Here you see it in all its nakedness trying to pass as glory and the moral high ground.
Beware of this!!

Be very careful about your emotions and any attempt by others to stroke you for political purposes...including to stroke you for your vote.

now for this...by Hunka Hunka...

In the 2008 election it showed that an overwhelming percentage of the college educated voted for Obama. Which of course means that the overwhelming majority who voted for McCain were not college graduates. And as Thomas Jefferson said "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

This is the very epitome of ignorance being foisted off on others once again with the concept built in that somehow college educated people have more intrinsic value than non college educated peoples.
A college education does not gaurantee that a person is not ignorant..not at all. A college education also does not gaurantee that a person cannot easily be controlled in their conduct/beliefs..by properly stroking thier emotions to a pre conceived conclusion or result. Many professors/teachers do this often to a inexperienced unknowlegable student body. This is a definition of ignorance. It is also a definition of Politics which pays for and finances public education ..through college levels.

I agree very much with the assessment of ProfEmeritus...educated does not mean that a person is not also ignorant. I have found many college educated people to be ignorant in many arenas and wouldnt trust them to watch my pets.
This is nothing more than that of which I spoke of in earlier posts...a type of divide and conquer..class restructuring...class warfare by education.
This is textbook of what passes for the moral high ground and entitlement thinking now days. It is not uniting the country but polarizing it even further...by entitlement thinking.

I find it no differemt from Chris Matthews technique of Racism to control peoples thoughts....by guilt control programming.

Thanks,
Orangetom

Interesting.

And if someone happens to be born within the confines of slavery or oppression or persecution. Then what? (I am referring to the condition of human bondage over the span of eons.) Not any one particular instance.

However, to frame it in context of this discussion say one was born to an African slave or to a mother in a concentration camp.

Are you saying that they received the gift of which you speak? Or is it limited to Americans born within the modern era? Just curious.

Religion has nothing to do with the topic at hand. As I said before I am talking strictly about American laws. Your religious beliefs or mine mean nothing and I won't be dragged into that. In our country religious freedom is upheld by our legal system.

As Americans we can openly appeal to our representatives in government. It is our right. I don't know how much more clear that could be. If you are upset about an issue such as health care reform, or second amendment rights or a plethora of others that could be worrying the average, aware American... it's your right to speak up about it in any public forum available. However some counties require permits for peaceful protest. In the case of town hall meetings it is supposed to be the place to get answers back from your representation in congress. So far that has happened in only a few cases.

Yep, I agree, which is why I challenged YOU when YOU brought it into the discussion.
A quick review of the thread will show it WAS NOT being discussed prior to your post.
GOD does not grant "rights" from what I've read. Religious doctrines tend to restrict freedoms rather than encourage them. THOU SHALL NOT...blah, blah, blah, etc.

I commend your efforts on behalf of defending the rights of American citizens who enjoy many abundant freedoms. You are wise to retract the ambiguous religious slant, I agree it doesn't fit into the mix.

BACK ON TOPIC:

In the spirit of balance and objectivity, I'd like to point out something a former Press Secretary under Bush said to a media personality who voiced an opposing view. (Albeit an insensitive one.)

The presidential press secretary, Ari Fleischer, condemned Bill Maher's irreverent comic response to 9/11 by reminding "all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do."

....the president's press spokesman had "ominously warned" Americans to "watch what they say," and that this amounted to telling citizens "to accept the administration's version of events, not ask awkward questions."

Source

Inasmuch as Mr. Gibbs off-the-cuff causal remark pales by comparison, it could be said the pendulum swings both ways.
