Just wondering if anyone knows the maximum pixel width without getting the scroll bar within the image. Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but actually its something i have been wondering about, and have been unable to test. thanks.

I don't know the specs, but there around somewhere, I don't go over 500 px wide, the same as images in signatures. Also anything larger makes a mess if you are posting an image to a members profile page

edit

Well this is an old link so I don't know how valid it still is

All images must remain at or below 680 pixels wide/tall
AND
no larger than 200K

Yeah, I would think that is just about right. I never really post any images that are larger than my initial mini-profile.

PO-TA-TOES! Sorry, your avatar is hypnotizing me. lol

Lets see...

Using the [atsimg] tag
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/files/5def2165bf9ab5d3.gif[/atsimg]600 pixels

Using the [img] tag
580 pixels and a scroll-bar

Using the [ats] tag with a resize.

We see the whole 800 pixels in the available 600.

So the answer is apparently 600 pixels wide maximum to avoid the scroll bar, correct me if I'm wrong. I posted an image 614 pixels wide and it looks like about 14 pixels got cut off.

Yes, 600 pixels is the limit for the image not to be cropped, 580 for not showing the scroll-bar.

As I said above, the image tag used also affects the image size, if you use the [atsimg] tag the image is cropped if bigger than 600 pixels, if you use the [img] tag the scroll-bar appears for images bigger than 580 pixels.

So, if it's an image in which the rightmost pixels are not really important you can post it with the [atsimg], but if you really want to show the whole image then you must use the [img] tag, or resize the image.

This is basically a test to see if the pixel guidelines still apply.
This is an old thread so things may or may not have changed.

Here's what 500 X 500 looks like:
