I can't believe it's been a year
since you said you'd be my wife
I couldn't have made up anything
that'd compare now to my life

We kind of rushed it just a bit
your mom seemed kind of mad
it cost me two days salary
to feed her and your dad

It made me proud that you would give
the life you had enjoyed
to take a chance with this old man
nearly broken and destroyed

You put on your bravest face that day
then gave me a little nudge
The kids, our friends, our blooming love
all went to see the judge

It was raining pretty hard just then
and our clothes got a little wet
Having not been real successful before
Don't think many would take that bet

You took it though and glowed, alive
radiant and so sure
Your love was unlike any before
persistent, kind and pure

For days since then we never had
much time to be alone
together in each other's arms
just you and me at home

A richer man might have saved
a thousand bucks or so
so when we left we would have had
a special place to go

The lock wouldn't work on our old bedroom door
So we knew that we'd have to be quiet
There were a couple of things we'd both heard about
and tonight was our time to try it

Two different people, like everyone else
consciously growing together
sometime singing a song in the rain
or hiding from dangerous weather

you pay a heavy price, I know
for loving like you do
but greater joy I've never fealt
then lying still with you

Without your love my life would still
be gray and dark and bleak
While you've been gone I sure have missed
Our scheduled three times a week.

Its not all just about the sex
but woman that is great
to have seen you in that church that day
was nothing short of fate

Our fist time talkin, snuck out to smoke
away from the all seeing eye
Second time there, I gave you my card
if you need to talk, just give me a try

the next week lasted forever
till you called me and came by my place.
After rubbing your feet for a good fifteen minutes
you had a warm look on your face

I laid up on the murphy bed
since I was then so poor,
your legs up on mine, shoes and socks off
your donated chair on the floor.

I think I've had enough of this as I pulled your legs up tighter
I was just a little bit surprised that you were not a fighter

From that very instant, I knew it was right
that together we just seemed to fit
That even with something different out there
I needn't not waste time on it

The years you have loved me, it took me some time
to stop running away from my self
but now that I have and you help me so much
a lot of me sits on the shelf.

If it wasn't for you, loving me now
giving me all that you are
The clouds would grey and the flowers all brown
in the sky, not a single star

I know I'm a whackjob and your patience wears thin
when you hear what I'm pissed at today
but i miss lying with you in our very small bed
a quick game of scrabble to play

Come home to me soon baby, and crawl back in bed
your pillows are cold and alone
and get back when it is one of our 'nights'
I promise I'll give you a moan.

So bring my love safely from way over there
don't make any errors in travel
I wish you already here with me now
cuz my long week's begun to unravel.

I love you my wife, my baby sweet friend
and know I always will be
the person that loves you and thanks his high god
that you are now married to me
