Obama 'Joker' Poster Causing a Stir in L.A.

My question is, the article I just read described it as 'demonic.' That makes no sense to me. How on earth is the Joker demonic? I think the author of that article is being just a bit dramatic.

Typical Lib socialist tripe. It's amazing how short their memory is. I am far from a George Bush fan, but the Libs did a fine job of attacking him in a manner that I think transcended "...political spoofery'.

I particularly despise the last one as it not only is 'mean-spirited' against an individual, it also perverts the American flag. Having honor-guarded WWII veterans at funerals who have had the American flag draped over their coffins......very bad taste.

Maybe I am. But I tend to think race is where they want the argument.

I'm not saying it's racist because I'm indignant or offended. My point is - What hot buttons are likely to be pushed by the image? IMO, the answer is race.

If we focus on having that argument then maybe we are being lead where they want us to go rather than paying attention to what's really going on.

They are saying the same thing Vanity Fair was saying when they published Bush as the Joker.

He is a lunatic.

Although I don't agree that Bush was a lunatic, but that was the image they were protraying.

I think we are beyond the point of no return with Freedom of Speech. The government doesn't need to censor our words or suppress our voice. The American people themselves do it by smearing any one who goes against grain.

If you were to ask every American whether they are for or against Freedom of Speech, every one would say for. But it is stories like this that prove most Americans don't know what Freedom of Speech actually is.

Freedom of Speech isn't your right to freely talk about Myspace or freely vote for your favorite American Idol. It's not your right to enthusiastically talk about your favorite sports team or rebelliously blare your crap music.

Freedom of Speech is the freedom to be safe in your thoughts and beliefs and to freely express and speak those thoughts and beliefs on any and all topics. Freedom of Speech with limitations, exceptions, and restraints is not "freedom" at all; it's a privilege.

This poster has nothing to do with Obama's race and every thing to do with Obama's politics. If questioning Obama makes you racist against blacks, then questioning Bush makes you racist against whites. The double standards get us nowhere. All they do is provide for a convenient and safe supporting argument when you can't dispute Obama's socialist policies.

Exactly ..i am FOR socialism and i find it kind of offensive some people here think being a socialist is a "Bad Thing"...

i've got to agree, this looks like a button pusher to me. the image symbolism is powerful.

the poster is reminiscent of white mistral imagery, except here, instead of a white guy "blacking up" you have a black guy "whiting up". then again, it might just be a joker image and the mistral undertone is accidental.

if the person who made the poster and identified themselves it wouldn't be an issue, for me anyway, even if the whiting up thing was the desired effect. the powerful dual image subtly embedded in the poster kind of raises a few red flags.

not that the image is bad, it's fairly clever and good poster art. the monkey thing with bush was a dig at fundamentalist christians so using subliminal digs shouldn't be a big deal when used against the sencibilities of liberals, but not standing up and saying you did it is a strange attitude on the part of the artist. if you're wearing a t-shirt with this on it you are willing to identify yourself, no issue, but remaining anon suggests they have some reason to hide.

Bush wasn't any more for Anarchy than Obama is, so as long as we're creating a list of politically ignorant people, throw Vanity Fair on there.

Both Bush and Obama have used deception to further their criminal agendas. I think that is what both this individual and Vanity Fair were going for when they cast Bush and Obama as the Joker.

It appears to me to be an attempt to recast the widely popular hope picture of Obama with somebody that should be feared, the joker.

Just because you can't see the humor or the message behind it does not make it racist.

Because its who they are, but they know its unpopular. They're trying to convert this country with swiftness and deception at every turn.

I'd like to point out that seeing Obama in makeup or paint is part of his heritage

The same individuals who are complaining are most likely the same people who complained about Bush violating the constitution. (which he certainly did)

But when someone they like is criticized, it's going too far.

I definitely thought the designer did a good job putting those together. However, I have seen some race baiting throughout the internet, especially this particular one:

LA Weekely

There was a woman here in Las Vegas with the last name of Miley. She was running for a judge position I believe and someone changed her face to the joker. Minus the white face because these were massive signs.

She wasn't happy about the graffiti on her signs, but in a later interview, she thought maybe it was good PR. Which I think it was:

Objectively, the image is fairly mild and shouldn't on its own cause much of a stir. Bush was portrayed in much more negative ways.

Factor in the fact that its Obama though, and you have an entirely new element. Sad.

Here is a good example of the hypocrisy being displayed. Although I haven't seen much about it in the MSM, I'm sure we are going to.

Not necessary indicative of my political views. But I do think hes not all he said he is. You can already sense he's backing off his claims of change.

The poster's took the time magazine out is only difference.

But it's still her picture as anyone can clearly tell.
