At about 11 pm Sunday Aug 2 2009 twitter went crazy with tweets about #sept2nd.
It was obviously manipulated to do so, I want to know why and by whom.

Should be fun to prove.

What I know at this point:

The code at sept2nd.com is screwy, I'm not a comp guy, but it seems there is supposed to be a counter that counts down to sept 2.

District 9 comes out 999. Sept 2 is one week before that and this is a 30 night countdown.

There are entries on websites such as wikipedia about sept 2.

There are links to extremely complicated and thorough scientific websites about cloning and human trials.

I will provide links for these things if you like, but it's more fun to go find it yourself, and while I want to tease you a bit, (because I do think it's a viral mark.) I don't want to influence your decision too much.

Some people think it's total bs, with nothing important attached to it and it's 4 chan dorks doing it.

Should be able to confirm that.

When I go to that sept2nd.com site, I get a black screen with #sept2nd in the middle.

I wonder if that is an IRC chat room? I'm going to check it out.

Ok, I have no idea what this is all about.

The video link is just an audio by some young dude saying "09 02 09 ........ Prepare yourself..."

This seems more like a PR for a movie than antyhing else.

Just giving a date, and saying "prepare yourself" is no evidence anything will happen that day, unless some other movie will come out that day, or something like that.

Here is what this website here has to say about this sept2nd thing:

After hacking into the Time magazine’s Top 100 most influential people in the world, 4chan users are making just another “fun” thing. Moot being now the most influential person in the world, 4chan users are trying to spread public fear by posting messages which say that something bad is going to happen on September 2nd. Some 4chan users started this thing, and they’re encouraging people to tweet special warnings and include the #sept2nd hashtag in their updates.

And it goes on more.

Who are these 4chan people? I've never heard of them before.

I just had a thought:

If we assume that our attention/hope/want/focus for an event to occur affects the outcome AND we assume that there is a general consensus for the idea that a major SHTF moment is just around the corner (fallish), maybe these 4chan guys are facilitating it. What IF

What are you thinking guys? It's the date for some horrible doomsday like thing or some other horrible day of doom? I reckon it is the date for some sort of party/web opening/something that is important enough for this sort of advertising. I'd hate to be September 1st or 3rd, you'd be gutted.
No but seriously, is this the beginning of something that we can all get our fangs into? Or is it too early to say?

It has nothing to do with anything of significance. It has to do with Zalgo. Something someone on 4chan came up with, it is simply a meme.

Someone posts Zalgo text (I'll add it later in the post) and a picture of a person with blackened bleeding eyes saying "HE COMES"

They are merely planning a giant prank/troll. They plan to post fliers and nonsense that coincide with the date.

Oh so we're prepared for the prank? That's good to know. So if this picks up and people not aware of this organisation get worried, we can laugh at them! Sounds nice. Well, I can't believe how quickly and efficiently this thing was sorted out, I feel proud to be part of this fine group of great people!
