LONDON (AFP) – A senior lawmaker claimed Saturday that the MI5 security service may have mistakenly recruited up to six al-Qaeda sympathisers in the wake of the 2005 London bombings.
Six Muslim recruits were thrown out of MI5 amid serious concerns about their past, including that two attended training camps in Pakistan, according to Patrick Mercer of the main opposition Conservatives.
Mercer, chairman of parliament's counter-terrorism subcommittee, added that the others had unexplained gaps of up to three months in their resumes.
