He had absolutely no nefarious purpose for doing what he did. If anything, they should hire the guy.
And, if hes being truthful about what was found, then it should be the government on trial. For sending ten's of thousands of soldiers over seas to fight illegal wars so that more oil can be secured. While at the same time, they claim oil and it's CO2 is ruining our planet.
They provide all the problems, then treat us like criminals when we expose them. This world is pathetic, if the forefathers were alive today they would probably commit suicide upon seeing what their country has become.
Beginning in the mid-1980s, concurrent with the development of space operations and space engineering curricula at the Naval Postgraduate School, the Navy began “coding” officers as space subspecialists. As space subspecialty codes were then assigned to particular officers’ billets on numbered Fleet staffs and at commands ashore, the service began assigning Navy members with matching codes to those positions. More recently, the Navy has begun efforts to build a cadre of “space smart” officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees.
The Naval Space Cadre is composed of active-duty and reserve Navy and Marine Corps officers and enlisted personnel, along with Navy civilian employees from a wide range of career fields who meet mandatory education, training and experience standards established for a particular certification level. The Navy Space Cadre is a distinct body of expertise horizontally and vertically integrated within Navy and Marine Corps active duty, reserves and civilian employee communities organized to operationalize space
Initial identification of the cadre began in mid-2001 with the standup of the Naval Space Cadre Working Group and culminated in a naval message (NAVADMIN 201/03 DTG211435Z JUL 03) announcing the first 700 officer members of the cadre. These officers were identified by the subspecialty codes of 6206, Space Systems Operations, and 5500, Space Systems Engineering or by the additional qualification designator of VS1, VS2, VS3 or VS4. Identification of enlisted and civilian cadre members is more challenging, as these groups do not have specif?ic space identifiers like the officers do.
Approximately 265 billets are currently identified as space billets. These jobs are in Navy, joint and National Security Space organizations. Space cadre members are currently assigned throughout the National Security Space arena, including the National Reconnaissance Office, National Security Space Architect, National Security Space Integration, MILSATCOM Joint Program Office, as well as in all Navy organizations that deal with space.

McKinnon DOES NOT deserve jail -- not even a minute-- he should be thanked. The ones who deserve jail are NASA heirarchy, DOE and all the other agencies who have kept us literally in the dark.
Jail government and non-government people who lie to us and keep us from true progress and freedom.
Free people like McKinnon.

I ran out of room in the title, here's the exact quote:
"There was good evidence to show that certain secretive parts of the American government intelligence agencies did have access to crashed extra terrestrial technology which could... save us as a form of free, clean, pollution-free energy.
BBC - Hacker's 'moral crusade' over UFO
A Briton fighting extradition to the US for hacking into top-secret computers claims he was morally justified in breaking the law.
Gary McKinnon, 43, from Wood Green, north London, admits hacking into 97 US government computers, including Nasa's and Pentagon's, during 2001 and 2002.
He told the BBC he was on a "moral crusade" to prove US intelligence had found an alien craft run on clean fuel.
I doubt he was going after proof of ETs under the actual pretext of exposing clean energy. But what do you think?
Put aside the issues of his guilt, Asperger's Syndrome and extradition. Is it possible that the US has this technology and is keeping it hidden? Would there be more to gain from producing, patenting, licencing and selling than there would be from sitting on it?
Either way this guy is buggered me thinks!

Give me the name of one hacker that has ever tried? Govt computers are pretty advanced stuff. Lots of security to bypass.
A really talented hacker can get the info he is after.
A hacker inside the US govt computer network could find things!
People need to remember that if he had access to govt files that he could read them!
People trying to pretend that uber hackers do not exist?
Einstein had a short term memory of like 1 min 30 seconds. Don't forget it!

I remember when this happened.
I dont think he was going after clean energy, but he was 100% looking for UFOs.
I think he almost got caught once as well and ended up chatting with a person on the other end of the computer and said he was running routine maintenance lol.
Pretty funny.
If you ask me, he shouldnt get in that much trouble.
He was using programs you can buy at the store, NASA or whoever should have better security.
Clearly he found something that upset them. arent they trying to put him in jail for a ridiculous amount of time?
