"All I Know How to do Is Kill People"

www.cbsnews.com

Soldiers from an Army unit that had 10 infantrymen accused of murder, attempted murder or manslaughter after returning to civilian life described a breakdown in discipline during their Iraq deployment in which troops murdered civilians

"Toward the end, we were so mad and tired and frustrated," said Daniel Freeman. "You came too close, we lit you up. You didn't stop, we ran your car over with the Bradley,"

With each roadside bombing, soldiers would fire in all directions "and just light th

Taxi drivers got shot for no reason, and others were dropped off bridges after interrogations

WOW
This is NOT war!

The soldiers describing those experiences were part of the 3,500-soldier unit now called the 4th Infantry Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team.

Since 2005, some brigade soldiers also have been involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, DUIs, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides.

I understand that what they went through was difficult.
Unfortunately no, it's NO excuse!

And the scariest part is many of them will become police officers.
Why do you think there's so much police brutality?

The Army trains soldiers to be that way, said Kenneth Eastridge, at left, an infantry specialist serving 10 years for accessory to murder.

"The Army pounds it into your head until it is instinct: Kill everybody, kill everybody," he said. "And you do. Then they just think you can just come home and turn it off."

Ok so some are just bad apples?
Really?

Even if they are trained and conditioned to be bad apples?

Needham said that a sergeant shot a boy riding a bicycle down the street for no reason.

Another sergeant shot a man in the head while questioning him, lashed the man's body to his Humvee and drove around the neighborhood. Needham also claimed sergeants removed victims' brains.

What do you expect this type of behavior will result in?

If people of that area react in a normal way anyone else would react the majority of people here would call that person a terroist.

Don't some of you see that's nothing more than a vicious and endless cycle of hate and blowback?

Thats disgusting. Thats one reason I'm anti-war. No one should be like that, and they should also be able to tell themselves that killing is not right. Why do they have to follow what there leaders say if they know it's wrong? People are just so stupid.

Some of these men are just monsters and should be tried and convicted but to put all our service men and women in this category is just down right idiotic! These types of monsters are only a tiny, TINY fraction of our military force and are generally dealt with in a not so go way. There is a much greater frequency (per capita) of horrendous murders in this country than happen in our military.

I don't care WHO trained you to kill- if you're stupid enough to take money for murder, you're just a dog that needs to be put down.

"They tell us to kill, kill, kill"? Then tell them "no, no, no"!

And again, I don't CARE about who "trained" them... I just don't care. Murder is murder.

I think the government should change their policy of sending troops home via plane when they are returning from combat.

They should send them home by ship and make sure the ship takes at least 30 days. This will give them time to deal with what they have gone through and put things in order. Not a perfect plan but better than the one we currently have IMO.

Counselors and therapists included. Our military deserves the best.

A star for you. I totally agree. This is just anti-war propaganda whose whole purpose is to make all the soldiers look like they have been turned into murderous monsters. I guess all these anti-war folks would just have us bend over and take it when we are attacked. Thank God for those men and women that have fought to defend our country and its interests.

Could you refresh my memory? When did Iraq or Afganistan attack us?

yaaaa sureeeeeeeeeeeee

Foreign occupation that is putting this country in more and more danger is in this country's interest.

A war that is bankrupting the country and putting more and more money into the pockets of war-profiteers is good for this country.

Sureeeeeeeeee there buddy!!

Anyhow, to those saying that to put all men in service in this category is wrong.

Well if you mean them coming back and becoming criminals, sure I agree.

If you mean majority of them not taught to kill everything that moves, innocent or not, then no I don't agree.

They are TAUGHT THIS!
They are conditioned to kill anything that moves, innocent or not.
Shoot in all directions!
Smoke em if they are there, even unarmed.

For those that argue with anti-war proponents I ask you this:

"Who is John Galt? Why does he fight his battles not against his enemies but those who need him the most?" - 50th anniversay edition of Atlas Shrugged.

We were attacked by Al Qaeda which was based in and protected by the Taliban government of Afghanistan. The Taliban were offered a deal to turn him over or be attacked and they refused to do so. Hence, why they were attacked.

As far as Iraq goes, they broke the cease fire from the first Gulf War over and over again. Are we just supposed to let them get away with that?

Do you really believe what you've just said?

I'm a marine who's seen combat and seen many horrible things and I don't enjoy killing people. I can't see the article because I have modern academia (and thats not a insult, I just choose to have him on ignore) or whatever on ignore but I assume thats what this is about.

I'm a family man, a loving father and husband who was honorably discharged from the marines I work in IT now for a local company.

I'll say "I know how to do and enjoy MANY things, I don't enjoy killing people".

I would NEVER hurt anyone here unless they are robbing me or threatening my family.

This is just more anti war/anti military propaganda designed to show ALL marines/military in a bad light and once again most of you who know NOTHING about military except what you read EAT IT RIGHT UP!

The liberal media just LOVES to get little snippets like this so they can show us all as bad people.

And don't judge me for joining marines. Everyone is not born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I was homeless with a pregnant girlfriend in my teens and I absolutely could not find ANY work. I was young and homeless with no work experience, why would anyone hire me? I applied at 1000 places and none hired me. After being homeless for a year with no work I joined the marines. I am not a "dog" as someone said marines are.

I have self taught myself about computers since then and thats how I now have a job in IT. I'm better than most college educated kids at this stuff, because I have PASSION, its not just work. When I was a teen however, I had NO SKILLS so I couldn't find work

These type of articles are FEAR MONGERING at its best. I wouldn't be surprised if this came from the king of fear mongering, Alex Jones himself.

WOW This is NOT war!

Actually, it is. that's why war should be avoided if at all possible. (sometimes it's not possible) It's not only the bad guys that get messed up, but the good guys that volunteer to defend the homeland that can get their brains turned around inside out.

One of my favorite books ... but what does Atlas Shrugging have to do with a soldier who didn't get proper psychological processing?

The military is supposed to keep up with deprogramming (for lack of a better term) of military. Obviously they are not keeping up.

Since when? Last I saw, UBL was still 'the man'.
Do you have a link saying our gov't says they no longer believe he was involved?
Thank you.

I do believe what I said and I am honored to be called George Bush. Thank you. I would much rather believe George Bush than some tin foil hat wearing nut with a web radio show called Alex Jones.

You know who "him" is.. Bin Ladin.

The FBI and CIA do say that Bin Ladin was behind it. Where do you get your info from? Youboob videos?

This many ATS members don't know that they arent' blaming Bin Laden anymore lol?

Go to the FBI website, look for bin laden's profile
You won't find 9/11 as one of his offenses

The CIA said themselves, "we don't have enough proof"

now they are blaming that mohammed guy
long name don't remember

The CIA has officially let UBL off the hook? Um ... do you have a link to that quote? Sorry, ModernAcademia, I've gotta have a quote from someone with a really good title after his/her name to buy that.

UBL admitted he was behind it.
