If you want to be really technical, there have been reports on /b/ about child pornography and viruses embedded in images being posted on a frequent basis. Considering how bad /b/ is, I wouldn't doubt this, but /b/ has existed for years now. Also, I find it really odd that AT&T decided to do this now at a time where 4chan was under repeated DDoS attacks.

This is probably the "beginning of the end" of the internet as we know it, just wait until more ISPs piggy back on AT&T's actions, and soon enough all internet websites are being controlled by your ISP.

Maybe, maybe not. If this starts a chain reaction, we'll be certain to see it within the next couple of weeks, but if members of /b/ organize against this like they do other things, the outcome could go either way.

4chan has a no child pornography rule. Any CP posted is usually posted to troll others and the thread deleted by mods within minutes while the OP is permabanned.

That being said, CP is rarely posted and /b/ isn't full of "hackers on steroids" or "pedophile rings."

Idiotic. I know 4chan very well and I know it's the gutter of internet but that's why it has a special place in my heart

It seems to me like they're blocking it for the reaction, then they can go cry in the media about the evil 4chan and get whatever netneutrality legistlation or censorship laws passed.
How about the other chan's? There's tons of them.

Yeah it does. It's illegal and all posts of CP are deleted and posters banned. I'm not sure if it's written in any place but it's enforced quite well actually.

Agreed. If they're blocking 4chan because of the content, they should also block **chan. That chan has the most lenient rules when it comes to CP. And why not block **0chan as well? That chan's dedicated to drugs!

**names censored.

To AT&T, it may not matter. If the CP and viruses were posted enough, AT&T might think the mods aren't doing a good enough job. In a court of law, do you really think 4chan stands a chance against AT&T?

Don't get me wrong, I'm on the side of 4chan in this case due to free speech, but I'm just saying it like it is.

Technically the law is on 4chan's side. That's why this is appalling on so many levels.

Yeah, well the law says that images of drugs aren't illegal. Images of murder and mayhem and such are not illegal. Those other chan's are where the line is where it's defined what is legal and what is illegal.
This actually starts to look like a clever move by AT&T. First they poke the hornets nest, get stinged and then they move in with the chemicals to whipe them out.

Are we sure this isn't an anon prank? It kind of has the brilliant set-up of a 4chan setup that we've seen from them before.

I've never heard of this 4chan. before, but from what i'm reading on here i guess it's a pretty messed up site, and has a lot of hackers on it ?

I have AT&T and i just tried going to that site, i can get to 4chan.org, but when i try to get to IMG.4chan.org it takes forever and all i get is a "oops this link appears to be broken" message, so i guess they are blocking at least certain parts of the site.

This is soooo not cool, even though i've never heard of this site before (and from what i hear don't think i wanna go there) i'm really PO'd that AT&T thinks that they have the right to censor what websites i visit. I do plan on voicing a complaint with them about this censorship.

I have a question for anyone that knows the answer. it's about this comment from titortite....

I stay away from the Chan... I like my computer hard drives but I know the legions go there....

Does this mean that if you go to that site you risk getting a virus, or getting hacked ?

I wasn't referring to the pictures on **0chan. I'm just pointing out that there are worser chans than 4chan.

No, the law is on the side of whoever makes the laws. Regardless of who is right and wrong, if the elite want 4chan gone, they can do it in the blink of an eye, legal or not.

The only thing you have to worry about are your eyes. As long as you don't download anything, you'll be fine. Lurking /b/ and reading the threads is perfectly safe.

Actually the chan you're referring to makes a point of staying on the legal side of the line. Very close to the line and but still legal. They are quite active in keeping it legal.

Oh, then my bad. I've only been on it once or twice and I saw people organizing "meet ups."

Maybe a warning to people who haven't heard of 4chan would be in order. If you go there be warned that it can and will suck the last bits of your soul away

It's the very worst the world has to offer and that's why we love it. Full of 'hackers', 'trolls' and 'lost causes'. It's not only the images, the text there can be the lowest of the low too

I emailed my congressman. He happened to be a part of the Communications subcommittee.

Like many here I do not support what 4chan stands for.

But I will support to my grave their right to stand for anything, or say anything.

The fun part of 4chan is that you have no idea who you are talking to. Who knows, there could be some "high-status" 4chan posters here on ATS right now, if you know what I mean.
