AT&T may well get it's first net censorship win and it's all downhill from there. It's a disgusting no-win situation. Blame it on the pervs...or that dude who tryed to scam on e-bay but ended up having his life

And oddly enough, we have those 'pervs' to thank FOR the internet. If it wasn't for the porn industry, we wouldn't be here today. They paid (and their customers) for much of it.

Thanks for correcting me. I was under the misapprehension it was DARPA or Al Gore, one of the two.

That has to be the most illogical rant I've ever read.

Your basically saying we have to censor 4chan, because if we don't they will censor more sites on the net.

That doesn't make any sense, absolutely none. You can't limit something and say its for the best, because then what else is next to get limited?

You can't force your morals on other people like it seems you are trying to do. It's your line of thinking that has put this whole country into the state that it is in.

You are trying to force your morals on other people, and completely dismiss personal responsibility.

If you don't like the site and don't want anybody visiting it from your computer then modify your host file or get a program to block it.

It's that simple.

Trying to make an argument that, we have to censor this site, because if we don't they will only censor other sites is #backwards. If we let them censor any site they will only censor more sites.

Then that means either the site is going through a bubble or it is being DDoS'D. If the site is not back up within an hour, it is most likely the latter. I hope nobody thinks this is attributed to AT&T, since it probably isn't.

So who is attacking 4chan? Are there any suspects. I love a good mystery.

Wha..?

What it ridiculous is not supporting a site... then defending it. If you don't know anything about it, why are you defending it for cripes sake?

It's simple, it's called defending freedom and 'doing the right thing'. I may hate christians and christianity, but I'll fight for their right to worship their silly little god because we should have that right to do so, even if we think they're wrong.

Note the operative difference in thought patterns. People should all have the right to worship their god. NOT worship YOUR god, or worship their god, as long as you agree with it.

There is a rumor that something called "AnonTalk" is the one behind the DDoS attacks, although only moot can confirm for sure what is causing them. AnonTalk is known to make spambots to spam /b/ with their site 24/7.

Is there anything on that site that isn't depraved and sick you can't get from another site? No.. no there isn't. Censorship? Look.. the Internet is nothing like we have had in the past. Parents stopping kids. Are you effing kidding me? Even the most diligent parent can't stop a kid from visiting sites like these. Internet cafes, libraries, schools, you name it... they can get to this stuff. I am in the computing industry. I've seen first hand, how computer unsavvy these folks are (parents), and you can't blame them for not stopping what they have no idea about.

Dear Fleabit,

While we can understand and appreciate your position, it's simply not our job to parent your child for you, nor dumb ourselves down in our tastes, attitudes and preferences as adults, on an adult oriented board.

Thank you and good luck,
The Internet

We really as a people need to make a stand ,start mass mailing to our elected reps .Make as much noise as we can and let the tycoons know ,that the internet should be free and open to everyone .Even though the idea of us parasites having anything free ,to them is insane .Unless we start to fight for every little freedom they try to snatch up ,we truthfully will wake one day in a 12 X 12 white painted room ,Take our daily prescribed pills and head off to our gvt picked job and then rinse and repeat everyday until death .

Here is a possible solution if you find yourself blocked from a site:

Online Translation Services : Actually here we can do is that, these Translation services can be used as a web proxy. Google Translate, Yahoo Babelfish . Use them to translate the website into the same language it self. If the website is in English you can give the output as English itself. This could help you to access almost any blocked websites.

I think it could be a plan to get 4chan to attack so they can create some new law that ends the internet. But hell maybe its just a plan to make everyone think that so they don't attack. Question is why now? Why did they do this now?

Starred your post.
We peeons have a lot of untapped power. Imagine how fast the gov. would fall if everyone stopped spending money. Imagine the consequences if everyone stopped making Internet purchases. If we peeons want to make change peacefully, we just need to come together.
Only apathy and the weak stand in our way.

AT&T isn't blocking my 4chons.

I use AT&T for internet access both at home and my workplace also uses it.

I have never had a problem getting on my /b/ in either location for the last year or so except for when it's being attacked.

Why is this so shocking? Isn't this the same company that was/is spying on Americans and probably others.

It has to be noted though that maybe this isn't censorship of the unjust kind, it is after all primarily an image site. So rather than the immediately assuming this is some form of conspiracy perhaps an image under the 'adult' section has been reported by a user of the AT&T network.

Child pornography, cartoon porn portraying children, or perhaps even a certain amount of complaints stating that the adult material is too easily accessible for the type of content found within and AT&T has decided to clamp down to a degree. (And yes, I do realise porn is easily accessible for all the loners out there everywhere on the Internet, I'm merely listing a few possibles)

The entire thread has immediately jumped to the worst conclusion, the conclusion that they are simply deciding what we can view. If that is the case, the site in question is hardly going to have been the first chosen for censorship is it, if I was going to censor a website, it'd be nowhere near the top of my list anyway. In actual fact, ATS would be far higher.

Also some suggest they (AT&T) have broken the law, in the U.K. I cannot see what law would have been broken but I am clueless with regards to U.S. law, in any event though wouldn't they simply stipulate in the contract agreements that they reserve the right to restrict site they deem inappropriate?

I cannot see any basis for this thread as it merely jumps a whole load of information and shouts... CONSPIRACY! CENSORSHIP! interesting none the less.

There is always a work around for traveling the digital universe. In this case it's a cloaking device(gives you an anonymous IP, your IP is stripped away). It's called anonymous web surfing using a proxy server. There are several free one's if you don't mind the pop up ads. Google it and have fun.

That wont help, it's not the website blocking your IP address, it's the ISP blocking the site from it's network.

Same thing, your not blocked from the site, the block's coming from your end of the line.

And while some of you may be model parents, unless you put your kid in a bubble, you will not stop their accessing these sorts of sites. There are too many places and ways to do so now.

And it's because of people like you that the UK and US and most other democratic nations have gone completely down the crappy due to most preferring the whole "nanny state" run country as opposed to independance.

It's far more easier to let a government ban everything that is potentially dangerous or unsafe to a certain group than it is for them to actually think themselves and avoid it.

I'm sick of posting this damn quote but so many instances arise where it holds so much relevance.

The State must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.

ADOLF HITLER,
“Mein Kampf”

What was the point in so many lives being lost over 60 years ago if we're just going to allow Nazi doctrines to run riot in our societies.

I don't like or care for 4chan but to see it get "banned" from the internet means we lose net neutrality and it opens the door for other filters and bye bye goes the last place on earth (virtual place anyway) for freedom of speech.

A proxy/cloak would definitely work as long as it wasn't based in the ISP's own network.

you proxy website

In this case you are never connecting directly to the blocked web page and if you use an SSL proxy (encrypted) they can't even tell what you are looking at bear in mind that whoever runs the proxy will have full access though.

The downside comes down to speed and convenience as it's obviously not as fast as a direct connection. It is a quick usually bulletproof solution though.

Another possible bypass although it depends on how the ISP is blocking would be to use different DNS servers such as opendns or similar but some American ISP'S are already supposedly blocking this although you could always just use the sites IP address directly through a third party lookup.

Not replying to this specific post of yours but replying to the majority of what you have posted in this thread. You claim that your in the Computer Industry and yet didn't know a thing about 4 Chan? I call bogus, that is like being in the news or communication industry and not knowing about BBC or Reuters if this is indeed the case then I am quite surprised even more so if you ever did anything about internet security which I am sure someone as obviously paranoid and misguided as you would have done.

I will let you into a secret, you can contact your ISP and instate an account side (ISP side) block on ANY website or domain you want blocking on your account and yours alone. I have younger family members visit for extended periods of times and I talked with a representative of my ISP to get an account side block on any racial hatred and porn sites that they know off and sure enough the next day I had a test to see if it had occured and it had.

Yes it wouldn't have blocked all of the sites I'd want blocked on my end but it bagged all of the easy to find ones and if my relatives managed to find obscure ones then I can easily have my ISP block them later on. If they where to bypass the blocks or remove it then I would not punish them I would congratulate them and point them in the direction of internet and network security firms as they would be capable of doing better work than the current people at that job.

Yes 4 Chan isn't that pleasant a site to visit, but if it was as bad for child porn as you claim it is do you honestly believe that the website would be viewable at all anywhere in the world that as child porn laws? if ISPs the world over freak out and block access to dodgy albumn covers and wiki I doubt they would be all that concerned about blocking what you claim is a hot bed of paedo-activity.

But in all seriousness just instate an account side block on 4 chan and the other websites you don't want your family to visit and yes there are ways to overcome the account side block (specifically using a different account) but then schools, libraries and many other public locations internet facilities already block things like 4 chan anyways.

Oh yhea, don't forget to add ATS to your account side blocks, I am sure you would agree there are plenty of dodgey people and racial supremist propaganda that occurs on this site and other things that you wouldn't want a child to find out about, at least not until they are older and less impressionable.
