Also if the population is slightly shrinking, how exactly is that a negative aspect? Especially in a bad economy, less population for the government to support (assuming they are unemployed) may be a good thing. Also the Russian demographic changes are mostly an auto adjustment - from socialist to capitalist society. During the Soviet era people were not affraid to have children, because the government and society would take care of them.

Demographics, demographics, demographics, can't be ignored. The United Nations predicts that Europe will go from about 780M down to 750M people by 2050. They make similar predictions for Russia depending on what model they use. You both have mature developed societies in which there is little incentive to have multiple children so the population drops.

Russia's problem is that immigration is minimal or less than 0.01% according to your own figures so no significant population growth can be expected from the aging population. To be politically correct a decreasing population is good (mainly due to environmental issues) but strategically it isn't generally benificial to a nation. You have an army that needs troops, factories that need workers, a wage earning population to tax is good and it is the young workers who inevitably provide for the retirement of the old.

All developed nations have similar problems including the US and these effects will become severe around 2020. The US of course has an advantage in that Mexico and south America is a constant supply of immigrants to the tune of millions a year if we allow them. The problem is convincing the general population that immigration is good. And then dealing with the problems like California has when they arrive.

The US is really going to feel the demographics pinch as the "baby boomers" start retiring in significant numbers and the Xers realize the responsibility is theirs to provide the social security tax to support them. I'm confident that Russia has a similar population bubble.

All the Bulkan and East European states will have a similar population squeeze exept the southern Muslim where reproduction rates are higher, families larger (for at least a few more years).

Russian point of view:

According to the expert, with all the negative effects of recent statements by Joe Biden, in those statements, there is one positive point: in Moscow were able to learn that in Washington today, really think about Russia. " "This interview should serve as a guide for the Russian sobering shower, recall that the brief honeymoon in relations with Washington, which culminated in the visit of President Obama in Moscow, finished", - said Alexei Malashenko.

Well Biden, you ****** it up... AGAIN!!! What a muppet!
