I agree with other posters in here.

The first thing I agree on is the people that are talking about running is what the problem is in the first place, so my answer good riddance don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Second thing is, nobody is going anywhere, many people are going to starve and die because people don't have any marketable skills. and I don't mean for money. I'm talking bartering.

If/when the US collapses well I feel for the people that don't know how to work for a living. If I were you guys I'd learn how to swing a hammer, farm, hunt, make tools, something that people will need.

The only rule outside of the small communities that will be set up is survival. The top rule in the communities will be work to eat. And when other people come to invade or disrupt the communities is to drop what you are doing and fight.

That is the way it will go down. The currency will be what you have to offer. All the people that want idealistic socialism and communism, you'll have it and you won't like it. You'll be begging for the "old life".

Others on the other hand will be looking at the bigger picture and do what needs to be done till the dust clears. As for me, I'll be right here somewhere in this country.

That's why being a scientist is awesome.

When everyone is stuck, some organization says "Hey, let's see how The Galapagos Islands respond to Nuclear Warfare in other parts of the world. Raven, you're a zoologist, go there."

^_^

My plan, anyway. Probably won't work. I'll probably get wasted and lose all inhibition.

I agree!
Raven, no wonder I like you!

And if it does happen how the hell you going to get to Europe or Asia Re-build the mayflower? No nation will except American Refuges on there own soil. This is one heavily armed camp you better make nice with the local street gangs,.

I find that funny, because those so called "street gangs" will be the first to fall...do you understand that in those gangs there is no real order and they can't even get along in their own "Groups" much less any others in their general vacinity, they're chaotic, disorderly and know NOTHING of true heroism, they're also very haphazard, the reason why many of them get carted off to Prison, however I agree with the rest of your statement.

I forgot to address the gang issue. The gangs will be some of the first to go, they might survive for a little while in the cities, but one of the first things people are going to do is eliminate all potential threats. You are correct though most of them will end up killing each other off.

These types of threads are popping up on Forums all over the internet.

Americans deciding where they would prefer to go and live overseas.

But what makes you think any other country will accept Americans these days?

Suppose a hundred and fifty million Chinese after some discussion on the internet, and research, all decide to immigrate to America when the economy or politics in China goes bad ?

Yeah, the State Department will not only welcome all one hundred fifty million Chinese, put them ALL on welfare, they will invite another two hundred and fifty million of their relatives to come and live in America as well.

Americans just cannot understand this problem. A small country is just not going to allow a vast and very sudden population migration from a much larger country, just because people wish to go and live there.

It is actually funny hearing so many Americans say we will all come and live in New Zealand, it sounds like such a lovely little place..

Do you really expect a country that has a total population of just under four million to suddenly accept an influx of maybe eight million Americans ?
It ain't going to happen under any circumstances.

Maybe a very few thousand at the very most, if you are lucky, and apply early. But you could be waiting years, even if you are eventually successful.

Same goes for many other small countries.
You should have been out of the US ten years ago. Now it is really too late.

It is no longer a question of where would you like to go, but who will accept you as an immigrant these days. The world is full of refugees trying to escape something.

Americans simply cannot understand any of this.

It was very tough for me to get in NZ, in the end my wife helped matters (being she's a kiwi). The biggest problem I have with Americans coming here is that they do not know how to leave America behind and embrace NZ culture. NZ is a simple, thrifty, laid back country in comparison to the US. I have embraced their culture and blend in fine (when in rome), but every so often I 'see' an over the top American in NZ that makes me cringe. For example they'll be driving a giant Chrysler or Humvee (most NZ vehicles are tiny as are parking spaces), baseball cap on backwards, corvette t-shirt, sneakers and jeans, being loud and obnoxious. The worst was this dude in a giant Chrysler who had a custom euro license plate with an American flag on it. It said GO USA,, It's like.. if you like it that much then please go home.. My biggest fear is an influx of Americans and NZ then proceeds to go to sh&% and I'm stuck with the exact thing I got away from.

About 99%+ of us are going to be stuck here, if and when the fall comes. However, I don't see any reason to leave the country. Other countries are going to come down, too. The ones that don't fall are probably not going to want a bunch of refugees from anywhere.

But really, hard times does not equal death. If we can get enough food to eat, have some place to live, clean drinking water, safety, the rest is gravy. Many of us won't be very happy without our Internet and Cable and cars and whatnot, but... it's all been based on a fiction, fake dollars that never existed. We'll lose all our toys, but they've never been necessities.

We'll just have to reset, to find out what's really important and get off that crazy treadmill of credit and work, maybe connect back with our families. And yeah, there's going to be some disorder, some breakdown of society for a while, and people are likely to die as a result. But I don't think it's going to be the end of the world as we know it, nor do I think the social breakdown will last very long. But then again, I don't really know for sure. No one does.

too many "important" people live in America for it to fail forever......I would probably stay. If we start seeing a bunch of high profile people move out of the country then consider it a warning to follow them ..

I have always thought Australia would be cool to move to.

We speak the same basic language so I wouldn't have to deal with learning a new language which would be a hassle......

I would say UK but it could end up worse than America....

Mexico is close but the conditions are not great. weather is beautiful though.

Maybe Sweden would be a good place to go. I assume enough of them speak English and they seem like nice people.....

A lot of the upper Euros seem more friendly actually......

NewZealand would be cool too.. Beautiful country from the pics I've seen....and the language being the same only with different dialect would be easy to get used to.

But Canada might be my 1st choice , as I live only 30 minutes from the Bridge It would be easy to access in a hurry and the people there are nice and same language.

I am sorry citizen, the exit location for this clone is not available at your security clearance.

The USA can never really fail. The ideology behind the United States can be beat down, drug around, kicked, and mangled but it will always rebound.

I would stay, jumping ship is not an option. The rest of the world should not have to deal with that, I know if this country was to collapse, like many have stated in this thread, the rest of the world would be hurting as well.

Stay, help rebuild, contribute to the cause, the cause of creating a country not run by corporate conglomerates. Take the I want this or that out of the lifestyle and get back to going after what we need, food on the table, clothes on our backs, roof over our head.

There has been bad times before and there will be again. It's a natural cycle that we as humans go through.

My uncle likes to tell a story about how as a kid all they had to eat was kangaroo tails. Says, "Too bad if you didn't like 'em cause that's all there was". Fellow had a dry sense of humour though

In Australia I've noticed a move towards a protectionist attitude. We're buying less foreign stuff and more conscious of buying Oz made.

Even had a guy from the Dept of Lands visit our business the other day asking about unused government land that might be suitable for community gardens. Said it's a real hit in America. If that's the case you've already got the basics of what you need going on over there.

We Australians have a philosophy that goes something like: Look after yourselves and your family, and if you've got a little left over see how your neighbours are doing!

This is not truly thinking about post crash. Ok, say the crash hits. Banks fall, the dollar is dead. Your money and any saving is worth zero. The first thing that will happen is a few hours of confusion, then calls for calm. Then it will begin. Those with families will go to the grocery store or wal-mart to stock up on supplies but no one is there because no one is going to work for free, they will be home with their families trying to figure out what to do. Then will come the smash and grab robberies, grocery stores and all stores will undergo mass looting. So you sit there thinking.. It's ok we'll still be able to buy food.. no. How are you going to get food? There are farmers out there who will supply the food.. oh wait.. their fields were just raided and have been trampled and destroyed by 10,000's of people in mass panic. Gangs will form.. ones made of convicts, rednecks and good guys. It will be wild west to the extreme. Then we'll have gang segregation and wars against whites, blacks, hispanics, asian gangs. A week later you don't know a single female who hasn't been gang raped. All the while you are starving and just ate a dead rat you found in your rain gutter. I could go on for pages. Any thought of people pulling together is wishful thinking. Idiocracy has already set in, it will be total anarchy.

Yes that is the problem in a nut shell.

Americans want to leave America...............

But take their collection of high powered guns, their hotted up big block V8 sports trucks, and be able to buy drugs and still earn big bucks doing something completely illegal and immoral in another (much safer) country.

Basically Americans have pooed in their own nest by condoning a totally corrupt political system, a totally corrupt financial system, and a totally vicious and immoral foreign policy.

Fix up your own mess.
Stay in America, and fight it out between yourselves.

The drugged up overweight and unfit punk with an IQ of 70 that eventually blows your head off from a concealed sniping position, will be a true hero and genuine American patriot (in his own mind).

Not easy to just 'move to' Australia. We have really strict immigration rules and even those that seek refugee status can spend years in detention camps. I guess that's one of the reasons Australia has done pretty well in bad times, we tend to look after our own. Not saying i agree or disagree with this.

Actually Australia has a very strict quota system. We take refugees from all around the world on the strict basis of numbers. An American wishing to come here will have to compete with other Americans and people from other countries.

Funnily enough a great many of the refugees we accept in Australia are from countries that America has destroyed by warfare.

We would much rather have some honest hard working Iraqi or Vietnamese guy, with his wife and two children, than some bisexual gun loving drug addicted IT nerd from America.

Good Morning,
I was actually going to mention that the bear spray is to give the bears a little seasoning as they eat you, but I thought it would be a tad over the board.

It was suggested that bears aren't bullet proof, while this is true, they are bullet resistant. A straight shot to the head of a Grizzly bear will often deflect due to the hardness of their skulls and the slope of their head. And you are correct, a Moose is indeed one angry mofo when you stand between it and whatever it wants. I have heard the bells/bearspray story in the past, and that doesn't make it any less true. Bears are not stupid creatures, nor do they contain any form of compassion for humans.

Having spent all of my life in Canada, and having been over the mountains in all seasons, I can be fairly straight foward in saying a shallow cave = a shallow grave. Bears and other predators can smell you miles away, they can track you for days and just when you think your in control of the situation, you find you aren't.

So I have to agree, in the event of a real SHTF situation, I have no doubt the mountains will be littered with the gnawed on bones of many a traveller.

Thanks for reading.
