Who really knows. Could've been an animal, or maybe even a person. Best thing to do, is ignore it, unless it happens again.

Agree.
It could have been anything, I was walking my dog the other night when I heard a slow and steady breathing coming from behind some trees. It was quite
heavy sounding. I ignored it, but I also made my way back home after my mind started playing the "you're being watched" trick on me.
Point is, you never know so pass it off as an anomaly (sp?)

ok thx
it might have been a cat fight i guess there are a lot of cats running around here
also i was thinking of a beech marten or a ferret as the first one sometimes kills chiken at my grandma's place and a ferret has recently attacked my
guinea pigs at my other house

I don't know if you have foxes in Belgium or not. But foxes will make a high pitched screech that sounds like a woman screaming hysterically.

gah! that fox cry was pretty startling! i don't know if you have fisher cats in Belgium, but we have them here in upstate New York, and their call is
supposed to sound like a child screaming.

Was it constant or did it come and go?
Did it sound like a vocalization, like a person was shrieking? Or otherwise?

Well if you have rabbits they will do the same when attacked.
We would hear scream like sounds during the night on the farm and it usually was from rabbits being attacked by a predator.

I believe that there is an owl that makes a noise like that. If you listen to nature there are alot of wierd sounds.
