China iPhone man commits suicide

news.bbc.co.uk

A young Chinese worker suspected of stealing a prototype for the fourth generation iPhone has committed suicide.

Sun Danyong worked for Foxconn, one of Apple's largest manufacturers.

The Taiwanese firm has begun an investigation following claims made by the worker's former classmates that he had been beaten by security staff.

Apple says it is saddened by the death and is waiting for the results of the investigation.

Sun Danyong was 25. He threw himself off a 12-storey building last week.

He worked for Foxconn in the southern city of Shenzhen and was responsible for shipping 16

This story appeared on the BBC website about 5 hours ago, although it seemed to slip away amongst the other news pretty quickly.

There is not a lot of information to go on at present but will be keeping a wee eye on this to see how things develop. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Apple did not make any comment on the details of Sun Danyong’s death, and nor did they comment on how Foxconn allegedly treated the worker. Some reports have claimed that he was detained and physically abused by his employer, while three Foxconn staff illegally searched his apartment for the missing prototype.

There has been no word from Apple on where the latest missing prototype is. Foxconn have yet to make a statement or detail any plan for an investigation into the situation. Foxconn has been responsible for manufacturing 3 generations of iPhone as well as all of the iPods.

Interesting..

mmmm lets take a further look into the bbc nonsense factory.....

A young Chinese worker suspected of stealing a prototype for the fourth generation iPhone has committed suicide.

Basically, suspect stole phone then commited suicide.

Sun Danyong worked for Foxconn, one of Apple's largest manufacturers.

The Taiwanese firm has begun an investigation following claims made by the worker's former classmates that he had been beaten by security staff.

Basically, Foxconn has started investigation into claims about the beatings. Foxconn were already investigating the worker for stealing the phone which the beatings were a result of however and it looks like this was the reason for his suicide possibly if we are to believe the workers classmates.

Apple says it is saddened by the death and is waiting for the results of the investigation.

Apple is doing nothing about this at all. Apple basically says, "I dont give a hoot".

Sun Danyong was 25. He threw himself off a 12-storey building last week.

Sun Danyong the worker involved commited suicide during the investigation , by Foxconn, into him stealing the phone.

One went missing. Sun reported the loss, and the company launched an investigation. Three days later the worker jumped to his death.

The investigation was started by Sun Danyong reporting the loss of this phone. He then commits suicide three days later during the company investigating him for reporting the loss! Wow thats some policy they have there, report loss and your the prime suspect straight away.

Sun's former classmates have told Chinese newspapers that during that investigation he was beaten, his house was searched and he was locked up in a room alone.

They say he described the experience in an online chat with them as one of the most humiliating experiences of his life.

Sun contacted people about what was going on with the investigation which would be headed up by a chief of security or similar position normally.

Foxconn says it has suspended its chief of security.

The firm and the local public security bureau are investigating the allegations.

The chief of security is suspected of foul play, now a suspect but what for is not even made clear by the article. It makes you assume its for the beatings. Now the public security bureau is investigating this as well.

en.wikipedia.org...

Foxconn has expressed its condolences to the worker's family and set up extra counselling services for its employees.

The firm is Taiwanese. It has faced allegations in the past that it treats its employees badly, claims it has always vigorously denied. Counselling for employees, is this for beatings or for the loss of the employee?

The firm was also cleared at the time by Apple of any serious abuses.

Ok now, in the past Foxconn has been accused of similar practices but Apple cleared it? Is Apple the law??

If this is the case then why is apple doing nothing about this one, yet they cleared the last one? Why were the public security bureau not involved with the last one?

I smell a rat somewhere. I think this man was killed or the security chief stole the phone.

Anyways, I just like to look at the BBC's articles like this, it can reveal so much lies at times and so many unanswered questions.

Like every article this one will end up in the dust bin below some celeb stories.

I'm sure the investigation will conclude something along the lines of, he beat himself, and ransacked his own house, .... before security staff kindly helped him to his car from the top of the building.

I agree.

It makes sense to reprint the article actually which probably will happen in a month or two, the bbc loves reprinting old news....

"Guy steals a phone, launches an investigation on himself, locks himself up in a room, beats himself up, sends instant messages to himself and then throws himself off a roof."

Apple said "I dont care, is the phone ok"

Must have been some phone technology to do that.

Apple, like Microsoft is an American icon of ingenious ingenuity and design... how utterly disgusting it is that the research, development, and construction of their products takes place in a backwards Communist country, then sold at highly inflated prices to Americans..

Poor guy was probably murdered, or pushed to the point of suicide for supposed corporate espionage.. sad..
