Are there any sleeper members here on ATS?

Ever go into a thread where people are debating?

You notice a given "opinion" is heavily starred
However the number of stars are way more than the number of unique members with similar opinions?

I mean let's say someone makes an anti-palestinian comment
That person gets 10 stars
But only 3 other people share that opinion in that thread

And I see it happen mostly for certain topics, mostly regarding israel and palestine.

I understand some members may just star and not post an opinion, sure.
But I don't think it's this high a number vs. active participants.

I'm not sure, I could be wrong.

I don't understand what you mean by sleeper members.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by that?

I really am having a hard time following your post.

I think he means members that star or flag.....but dont post on the thread they have done that one.

Semtimes though no comment ios needed for a star or flag as the OP usually sums it up quite well themselves

I have "sleeper members" that add me as a foe without even responding to my threads

I must be a sleeper member then. When I'm not posting or making threads I'm reading all the threads here at ATS. I usually star and flag the threads I'm interested in.

When I don't post in a thread I usually will flag it so I can come back to it later.

I guess by that definition you could say that I am a sleeper member.

It's all good.

well yes that is what i meant

but why not post?

I guess I don't see how someone would star someone else's mind
but not post their own mind

I don't know
I guess I don't view ATS as a magazine

Sometimes I don't post when I don't know enough about a subject but I still find it interesting. Or I may just not have made my mind up about an issue. Or, I may just simply go into the topic to read the post. I've lately been making more contributions to ATS topics, but, sometimes I don't know what to say about a topic, or, sometimes it's kind of shocking, and, I don't really have an opinion about it... so I don't post.

Why would they post the same thing as the post that they starred?

If you say that ice cream is good. I'm not going to post the same thing even though I also think ice cream is good. I'm going to star your post and reward you with a well written post that says what I think.

oh yeah, I will star and flag cuz I get tired of saying the same things over and over, harping like a frog...what's the use...but if I see someone else doing my work for me, saying something similarly stupid to what I might have said, for sure I want to star and flag them, to encourage them in their right-thinking...but I don't want to post so predictably and tediously all the time, you know what I mean, I'm tiresome easily and often...but a quick anonymous "attaboy", I don't feel self-distaste about manifesting in that limited manner...

A lot of people star stuff they agree with and then make no comment, because whatever they would say has already been said! I do this all the time.

Peace.

The word you're looking for is "lurker", not "sleeper".

Funny that this is my first post... I'm a lurker and rarely even log-in.

I starred this post because it was the same sentiments as my own.

Normally that is all I would do but for the sake of this thread I am replying to explain that I don't normally reply if someone else has said what I would have said...or something like that...

Exactly.

And T&C prohibits such 'I agree' and one line posts.

A simple star and / or flag suffices.

Yeah of course there is.

You hear it all the time.

The starpeople.

Plenty of threads on the starpeople use the search tool.

Wonder who the starpeople are on this thread. When it comes to flags, thats a whole new ballgame.

I'ts rare that i star a post without replying, however on a couple of occasions i have given a star due to the informative nature of a post, but felt i did not have the depth of knowledge to reply or take part in the thread.

The space threads are a good example of this, whilst i love the subject, some of the threads here are way over my head.

Exactly. And I did just that with yours. If I were to instead leave a comment, it would be exactly what you said and that would be breaking rules and a waste of bandwidth.

No 'star' conspiracy.
