Should President Obama Control The Internet?

townhall.com

President Barack Obama wants to control the internet.

And if our President has his way, this website may soon be under legal attack from the White House.

Cass Sunstein, an American legal scholar and Harvard Law Professor, has been appointed by President Obama to head up the “White House Office Of Information And Regulatory Affairs.” His title is sufficiently broad and ambiguous, but he wields plenty of power. And with advance copies circulating of his new book “On Rumors: How Falsehoods

Here are more juicy bits:

Perhaps most disturbing is Mr. Sunstein’s vision for the future of web content, as he argues for a so-called “notice and take down” law. Under this provision, those who operate websites - - The Washington Post, radio stations, private bloggers, and perhaps even you, yourself -we would all be required “take down falsehoods upon notice” from the U.S. government.

Now the question of what is considered a falsehood and who will determine this. Obama's 'internet Czar' gave us an example:

But who shall determine what, exactly, is “true” and “false?” Mr. Sunstein laments the supposed “lie” that emerged during last year’s presidential race, that “Barack Obama pals around with terrorists.” Despite that fact that a friendship between Obama and known domestic terrorist William Ayers was something that both men acknowledged, Sunstein alludes to the notion that this was one of those “destructive falsehoods” of the sort that needs to be policed.

Wow!

Obama now wants to control the internet and he is coming after your favorite website next if they happen to disagree or say something negative towards him. Sad, just sad.

Obama and his administration are becoming more and more dangerous and they need to be stopped immediately!

nobody should control the internet
that's like controlling empty space.

Another issue is how this will affect the economy
how much business does the internet bring?
SO MUCH!

The internet was meant to never be controlled by anyone.

No, Obama should not control the internet, and it's ludicrous that he thinks he can.

The problem with your statement here, is that it is incorrect.

The internet was originally created, as a military entity, called the ARPANET, and it was created as a means to communicate between military bases and Government offices in the off chance that the Russians were to nuke America.

The ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) created by ARPA of the United States Department of Defense during the Cold War, was the world's first operational packet switching network, and the predecessor of the global Internet.

"Packet switching network" is the predecessor to e-mail.

It was the equivalent to one computer sending a package to another computer across the country.

Sort of like a high-tech version of Pong.

The exception of course, is that you knew the "packet" was coming and were not trying to block it, you were trying to catch it.

It was found, through many trials and errors, to not be secure enough for Government and military purposes, because of all sorts of reasons, including the people who assisted in creating it, high-tech computer geeks, who played around with it.

These were the very first hackers, they utilized computer code, and came up with all sorts of nifty tricks and doodads.

The military, dropped the contract, civilians corporations were then courted to purchase the techonology, and voila, AOL and others were born.

It is, one of the purest forms of civilian run, military created, monitoring devices in the world.

The "keywords" you use to search are logged, and categorized, and if enough of them are used in the right order, or the correct ones are used, a file is opened on you, in some backroom somewhere far, far away.

Did you know that the moniker "url" stands for uniform resource locator?

I have known that since 1986.

OMG, this is what i've been waiting for!

I hope this gets passed, we can finally have absolute truth under Obama. I wonder how much he'll charge for "Audacity of Hope" in ebooks?

I like it, I can see nothing wrong here, and i'm sure the members who will be voting on it can see no wrong either.

He's already started going after radio stations right, if not he needs to!

I don't want to hear anything that goes against Lord B.O

Nothing that he has not approved. With 12 different pens, (whats that about anyways?)

Yep, shall we all jus bury our heads in the sand?

I for one, know that when someone buries their head in the sand, their backside makes a prime target.

The Creature from Jekyll Island : A Second Look at the Federal Reserve

I would no sooner want or allow Barack Obama to control the internet, as I want the global elite to manipulate the entire Federal Reserve process.

Oh wait, they already do that...

Let's see how long this thread lasts before it becomes an Obama bashing thread though.

I was not in favor of Bush, and I do not support Obama.

Sorry, I want a real person in office, not a puppet.

Should Obama control the internet?? Absolutely NOT! Why?! I like the internet the way it is and anyone controlling it to me is just suspicious and completely wrong. I just dont get a good vibe by the internet being "controlled."

I think we should let Obama control the internet. Maybe that will keep him busy enough so that he wont have time to keep f'ing up the rest of the country. It could be kinda like giving a baby a toy to keep them from grabbing all your knick knacks off the shelves.

First of all, it won't be Obama controlling the net... it will be the two-headed political party that has usurped the government for nearly a hundred years.

Second, this guy, is he also going to be a new 'czar' of something or other? because I have had just about enough of this politically appointed 'fuedal' lordship he is granting as if he were a king or something.

Third:

Despite that fact that a friendship between Obama and known domestic terrorist William Ayers was something that both men acknowledged, Sunstein alludes to the notion that this was one of those “destructive falsehoods” of the sort that needs to be policed.

Exactly what constitutes a 'destructive' falsehood? And who will be 'policing' those who 'police' expressions of thought? Is there a 'destructive falsehood' that doesn't need policing?

Our government has sat idly by while the world of corporate commerce and 'entertainment-based' news media have lied and filled our airwaves with 'destructive falsehoods.' Those were OK, and merited no response from them. But inquiries into the person posturing himself as our potential next president are somehow 'wrong' because they don't want to face such inquiries?

Puhlease.

Too late.... by about 100 years.

The few who pulled on their marionette strings too hard were either marginalized or killed.

The next President --- real President --- will have to reinstate controls the previous 4 basely eliminated, and THEN he can start getting us back on the path of being a sovereign republic.

Maxmars, the problem I see with this, is the very plain and simple fact that as soon as they usher in this crap, then we will see everything on the internet slowly and methodically become censored.

Wikipedia will have all of its entries slowly chisled down.

Factual websites with Government statistics will be funneled into less and less.

It will begin to look more and more like the Freedom of Information Act, on the internet, than like a free place to go and have fun.

Meaning here, you will have to get permission to go to certain websites, you will have to claim your reasons for the access, and then they can eventually deny you access, just like the political nightmare that is at F.O.I.A.

Then, places like ATS, and other conspiracy websites, will be slowly be bought up, or run out of business altogether, because if you disagree with the Government, you are committing an act of treason and or subversion, just by disagreeing.

This is the entire activity of closing down Freedom of Speech, they are just doing it slowly, so people do not notice, and do not panic, and it will take decades to get the entire process out to the public, and by that time, it will be too late.

Of course Obama should control the Internet.

It's the only thing left that he doesn't control.

Oops. That and the unorganized militia.

And that one's going to be a royal bitch.
