Bid to limit licence to good students

www.news.com.au

TASMANIAN students who skip school could soon face more than lunchtime detention under a Liberals plan.

Liberal leader Will Hodgman wants to stop students with bad school records getting their driver's licence for up to two years.

Those with high absenteeism rates, suspensions or expulsions could have to wait until after they turn 18 to apply for a learner's permit.

Driving was a privilege, not a right, Mr Hodgman told The Mercury.

What jerks. It's clear that the Liberal's don't have a friggin brain in their collective heads.

Read this and understand, you Liberal morons: School is not for everyone!

Some students don't want to be at school. Punishing them for not wanting to be institutionalised by state education is not solving their problem.

Driving a car is a bigger responsibility than going to school and anyone on L-plates needs to have a licensed driver sitting next to them in the front seat.

I'm suspicious about the hidden motives of this Liberal scam. Forcing teenagers to stay at school worries me...

As for driving being a right, not a privilege, anyone can drive a car - getting a license just means that they're paying a fee to do it.

Edit: Does this happen anywhere else in the world?

I agree this is completely rediculous! I dropped out of high school (that doesn't mean I'm dumb though) and I got my license at 16 and if they tried to do this I'd be so pissed! I've learned way more on my own then I ever would have in school with biased teachers and stuff. Reason I dropped out is because I live in liberal land California and most my teachers where biased and would preach to us! (ESPECIALLY history teachers)

I pretty much cant stand liberals.

Peace!

First no crossbow, now the license

Better start checking the outback for FEMA like camps...

Ok, as much as I can't stand liberalism, I think this is an awesome idea. Driving is a privilage, not a right. If you don't have the discipline and stamina to STAY IN HIGH SCHOOL then why should you have the privilage of a license?

IMHO

Yeah, Z... they're probably not far away. If I find them, I'll let you know - unless I wake up inside one of them.

They closed Woomera detetion centre for the illegal immigrant boat people. Conveniently, they shifted the camps to near-by Island Nations so that we don't have to deal with the problem on the mainland.

Back to this thread, though... I can see a whole host of other punishments that they might implement for people who wish to excercise their right to avoid school. Truants could be some of the first people ready to test implanted locator-chips!

This is retarded, I swear every time I read something new about a new policy politicians come up with that is absolutely moronic I feel that we are being led by the guy in your class that was good at talking but always came up with the most moronic ideas.

I honestly don't think these people are smart enough to pull of these conspiracies that other and I think they are doing. There are too freaking stupid.

The indoctrination isn't working so lets force it on them. Okay they will just go drive illegally.

Did anyone else notice that this is taking place in Tazmania?

Oh you people and bashing liberals. It's not just liberals that are messed up. Conservatives are on the other false end of the spectrum as well. I'm sure that I could find many articles talking about how messed up conservatives are as well.

The modern word liberalism has come to mean socialism, which is, not what the word originally meant. Liberalism as we know it today is not what it once was.

Sigh.

. . . . . or, stay in school. Look, they aren't asking that you obtain a PhD in neurosurgery. They want you to stay in school. What is so terrible about knowing more? Have those of you learned so much in your 16 years on this planet that you don't feel the need to better yourselves any further?

C'mon! This is ridiculous! What's next?

"I can't believe they expect me to learn how to read! I mean, you don't need to read to drive!?"

Oh I know both sides are messed up. I am neither liberal nor conservative, I have both liberal and conservative viewpoints. I admit I lean more towards conservative though. Although I classify myself as neither.

Peace!

Not that it's a good idea. It's just not a bad idea.

I know plenty of bad grad kids who shouldn't be driving. The logic seems sound. It just makes sense for where I live.

Does it not seem like that? It's the guy that no matter what he does and how stupid his ideas are he keeps getting good breaks.

Which is all good and everything, but it takes equally as many morons to vote these people into office.

I might not be that old, but one thing I have learned is that college degree does not mean you are smart.

Yeah, that's how it starts - they sell school as though you will benefit from it.

Sure, many people do. However, a significant number don't benefit from school and would be better off doing other things.

Schools tow the government curriculum line. What better way to train the next generation to obey, than by having them in a school? Don't think for a minute that all schools allow students to think outside the box. No way...

I'll keep a close eye on this to see if it starts happening in Victoria.

I'm 26 years old and stayed in school all the way until high school, when I got teachers I disagree with. I was also smarter than most my teachers. Every single thing I would have learned in high school I've taught myself, plus A LOT more!

Plus I left home at 15 and needed to support myself so I couldnt afford to go to school! Not every kid in this world is privleged and have nice parents who love and support them. I was one of those kids.

I didn't need biased stupidass liberal teachers teaching me anything!

Peace!

It's not that, I know this is in Australia, but how bout kids that go to work and need transportation to get there. Or how bout the parents that work full time and a bus doesn't go where they need to go.

Punishing kids because they don't want to go school just isn't right. If they want to be a screw up then let them screw up.

This is just more nanny state BS.

Don't you get it?

Liberal views and conservative views offer false solution to real world problem. That's the whole point about the whole awareness movement.

Liberals and conservatives never get anything done because they're still in the same mindset that people had last century.

Communism and Naziism didn't work either...

So your solution is?

I'm still working on mine. I just know that we have to get beyond all of these trivial issues like abortion, racism, and sexism first. Once we do that we have to focus on real issues... such as how can we make our living conditions... than once we do that we can focus on how to better schools- there are tons of models we can use to replace our terrible school system... and we need a whole new revolutionary way of thinking. That's what I've got so far.

Stupid people can go off and have kids - Octamom, anyone? - yet has to jump through hoops left and right to get a drivers license. Makes a lot of sense. Not that I'm into any kind of selective breeding type of thing, just remarking, is all.

Fall in line, be a good automaton, do as you are told, go to school and be brainwashed into a good little "citizen", follow the rules and maybe we will let you drive a car. Since everything is now illegal, it's pretty hard to not break laws so good luck trying to get that license with the Thought Police lurking around every corner.
