Seems like Detroit is the only place avoiding the massive police state underway,

Canada is definitely not short on funds, our Police are getting bigger and bigger every year with more tools and more money to put more people behind bars.

The city needs to attract business, not scare away the few they still have. Who is even going to insure a business that operates in a city that doesn't prosecute break and enter crimes?

Canada freaks me out, man. You guys and the Brits are the bleeding edge of Orwellian thought control.

How about they stop prosecuting for minor drug offenses....

Like Mary Jane.......Most of those people who get caught with a gram here or an 1/8 there and get fined for it are pretty mellow people and is a waste of money going after them...

i can see people dealing in lbs.....that is different.....because at that level usually weapons are involved and they may not have anybody but their own interest at heart...

but for the common man or women who occasionally smokes MJ and is no harm to society I would say cutting prosecuting that would save millions of dollars...

I'm not talking about letting coc aine and heroin dealers go free .....that is a different story....

I'm sure those 54 employees would rather take a 30% pay cut then lose their job....

They don't even mention that as an option because they have an agenda and what is not included is not important to them.....

Detroit has had horrible leadership the past 20 or more years.......same thing over and over again..

Although i do think Dave Bing is a good guy and has the people's best interest at heart he is just in way over his head and we are probably past the point of no return.....

I don't live in Detroit but the suburbs...

Detroit, coupled with loosing it's manufacturing base, it's Corporate base, rising crime, high unemployment/foreclosures and probably the single worst city management in the US ...

I think it should be quarantined, put a Bubble over it and forget the craphole of a city exists. I was last there before the economic crash, and I despised it, I can only imagine how it is now. I'm surprised the Middle Class has not had an exodus from the city. Oh wait that already happened, only those who cannot sell their homes are stuck there now.

The whole city isn't bad....

I love going to Tigers games at comerica.....getting a beer before the game...going out to the bars after...

The casino areas have stuff to do..

My friend lived down there for the past 7 months renting an apartment a mile away from fox theater on wayn state campus..

i used to be scared to go there but ever since going to visit him all the time we realized there are good areas in Detroit...

Worst education system probably in the U.S. though.....

Something like 30-45 % graduate highschool......

There are a lot of DUMB people in detroit and no it has nothing to do with skin color.....It has to do with the fact that it is poor there and if you aren't getting schooling to make you smart enoguh to get a job to get the money to move away then you just keep populating an area with dumb people.

Not all are dumb but a greater percentage is than average ......

I remember watching the news reporters asking random people on the street in Detroit about if they would vote for Kwame Kilpatrick again .........This was 3-4 days after all this stuff came out about how he basically stole $ 7 million from the city of detroit and the people..

All the people asked on camera said they would vote for him again..

When asked about the situation Kilpatricks Father kept saying " it was because he was a black man in power" ......

Pulling the race card is selfish and does nothing but hurt the people who it actually is viable for.......

The people of Detroit do it to them selves, and the politicians make it worse....

You make some excellent points that are worth consideration.

So just let the whole thing fall apart and let each neighborhood fend for itself? Maybe its not a bad strategy, although you are going to get some pretty wretched results in many areas.

I here they are working in a tieup with Butler Brothers on some game called "Nukem: Get them before they get you." I'd buy that for a doller.
