To me, it seems like many of our myths and legends have some basis in fact.

As the tale gets told and retold some of the facts may get lost or misstated.

Could that explain teh discrepancy from when Plato talked about it being 9000 years since it sank into the sea and the age when Sardinia was believed to have been wiped out by a tital wave about 900 years prior to Plato?

I think this is worthy of academic discussion and more research.

Is there evidence a bronze age civilisation from Sardinia fought and lost a war against Athens, several thousand years before the bronze age?

Was Sardinia destroyed in an earthquake such that only shallow shoals exist where once the island was?

Otherwise, Sardinia can not be 'Atlantis'.

The article states that Sardinia was destroyed by a tidal wave.

I didn't think to pursue other avenues.

I was hoping that the conference would address some of these issues.

Last I saw Sardinia was still there and has not sunk beneath the waves . Atlantis according to Plato - the only source - was not destroyed by a tidal wave.

One might as well argue that Atlantis was situated in the Cairngorms and buried under a snowdrift or in Borneo and disappeared under a rainforest.

Atlantis is what Plato described or it is not Atlantis.

Plato could have been describing a story that has been told and retold for 50 generations.

His facts may not have come down to him correctly.

I'll wait and see what the conference turns up.

As my family is from there...I can state it does still exist...lol I have thought of taking a trip there, and the adventure vacation catalog I get does state there are very ancient ruins from an unkown people on the island...so...who knows...
