I mean whats up with this grid?????

40°27'28.52"N 93°23'38.85"E Google Earth it...

Why would someone do a 0,64 Square KM excavation on its left? Huge...

Any clues?

Looks fishy to me... maybe not...

could be any number of things, my thought is it is used for pilot training. Notice the two airfields to the northeast?

Wow, that is wierd... especially the big lightened square next to the maze.

In addition, over by the airfields to the north east, there is a blue circle.. when you zoom in, it is a circle of buildings... how wierd.

S&F for making me say wierd so many times in a post!

Right, you really need two... don't you?

Its a very populated area and the air traffic is just unbearable for one airstrip. Safety is not taken into account, so why not have two adjacent to each other...

In any case you have a spare one...

I am telling you, i am looking at the surrounding area and there are some weird/amazing works there...

Training pilots in Thibet huh...?

NICE!
Lets see are them rookies able too distinguish between the two landing strips? Who's gonna mess up first!?!

Take a close look at the run ways... they seem to be crossing rivers. Dunno, it looks like it is meant to be an illusion... paint on the ground or something. Maybe a mesh ceiling. We did something like that on the west coast during WWII to fool the Japanese. It looked like a normal hillside, but it was a full airbase/aircraft plant with a town.. all hidden from the air.

I was just looking at that...
The whole area looks flooded and there is a lot of material transfered there by trucks. Look at al the little hills from unloading.

Also look at the thirs strip on the bottom right.

There also a lot of stuff on the North...

Doesn;t look very hidden to me...
HIDDEN? NOWADAYS...???

Actually I looked at the second (smaller) runway.. looks like it is covered in blast craters. Some of them (judging from the google maps scale) are 10-15 feet across. Maybe this is an artillary test site?

No clue.. this whole area is a little strange... especially that big square next to the maze that is like 1/2 mile on each side. I wonder what the Air Force would have to say about this place.. How did you find it?

I am a bit observant...

Bad thing nowadays... Ignorance is Bliss after all. I can tell you that.

My big worries though lie in the environmental field, so there you have it!

This is definitely a strange find! To help in the discussion, here are pics of what the OP is talking about:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/f9ab6eb41b50.jpg[/atsimg]
Overall picture of the area, with the excavated area on the left, the 'maze' area to the east of it, and the three 'airstips' to the northeast.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/cebe4516a0bf.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of the square excavated area.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/a106a4008413.jpg[/atsimg]
The 'maze'. The large 'streets' are 100 feet wide, the smaller 'streets' are 65 feet wide.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/5e0eccad366d.jpg[/atsimg]
Airstrip 1 general area. The 'airstrip' is 0.25 km wide (over 800 feet) and 3.05 km long (over 10,000 feet)

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/a2de3451be21.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of 'airstrip' 1 in the center. Signs of errosion??

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/441a32fa92f6.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of the northwest end of 'airstrip' 1. Notice circular disturbance directly to the west...

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/e2550e246ba4.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of disturbance. Fireball from an explosion?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/e728a96feb9d.jpg[/atsimg]
Disturbance with buildings and roads nearby (to help with scale) and what appears to be an entrance to something undergound.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/c64eddd71607.jpg[/atsimg]
What looks like a concrete pad north of 'airstrip' 1. Notice the three bunker or undergound entrances.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/2067a0d03925.jpg[/atsimg]
'Bunker' entrance near SW corner of concrete pad.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/c0ce6c6d229d.jpg[/atsimg]
Smaller 'strip' north of 'airstrip' 1.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/0ba54935c627.jpg[/atsimg]
'Airstrip' 2.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/6575c317a7ed.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of cluster of buildings NE of 'airstrip' 2.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/4c196df02ea7.jpg[/atsimg]
Another cluster of buildings south of the circular cluster.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/4cfd18855425.jpg[/atsimg]
'Airstrip' 3.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/dd484426760b.jpg[/atsimg]
Close up of the east end of 'airstrip' 3.

There are no hangars anywhere that I could find. Also, these don't appear to be airstrips or runways when viewed close up. Something is going on here, but what???

It's the 'maze' that has me the most confused. If it were just the 'strips', I'd write it off to weapons testing or something of the like. It is in China, afterall. But I can't for the life of me understand what use the 'maze' would be for anything. Whatever they are, the 'maze' and 'strip' 1 have been there awhile. Both show signs of significant errosion.
