What exactly constitutes Alternative News?

I just had a thread moved from Alternative News to Breaking News on BTS. It was a breaking story about a Police Officer arrested for Rape and Sexual Assualt. I had found it was way more common than I would have thought and wanted to discuss it and its causes.

I saw this as the same as all the Police Violence stories common on the Alternative News category on ATS as Rape is one of the worst forms of violence.

I wonder if the Mod's would define for me what the difference is so I can understand? Why is one form of violence by an authority figure Alternative news and the other is not?

I got an answer that made good sense. It was because there was no conspiracy angle to the story. No cover up or similar. Makes sense to me and helped me to get a handle on this.

I'm happy with the answer I received so no issues and please nobody misunderstand my motive. Moving it was correct.
