A toxic substance plays a key role in helping birds migrate, a new study says. Previous research had shown that birds seem to have an internal compass that allows them to "see" Earth's magnetic field. This magnetic vision guides them on long journeys.

This is pretty cool, one of the natural mysteries finally explained.

How great it would be to be able to perceive magnetic fields which got me thinking, Could this be an explanation for auras maybe some people have elevated levels of the toxin. Any way just having fun.

I've always known that birds had an advantage of some sort...

I remember hearing years ago, about an experiment with (I forget exactly which type) birds... They put magnets on the bird, and it was all screwed up (so to speak).

It's definitely amazing...the different advantages species are given.

This is really one of the coolest discoveries!!

I know what magnetic fields look like by the effects they have on matter and energy but it would be wondrous to see them like birds do. I am Jealous.
