Did he order that "dinner platter" or was it served to him. Did he know what he was eating? Keep in mind, it is considered offensive to the host if the guest of honor declines the native cuisine...Especially if one is on a diplomatic mission.

Just my 2-cents

Eh, Peta picks and chooses odd things.

Fly's are seperated into one way, whales another.

According to this though, Obama must have ED, and terrible sex, he ate meat, ergo PETA strongly claims that this must be the case.

First of all there's no need to yell.

Second, I'm going to assume that the article is referring to smoked beluga sturgeon.

I doubt that he would be stupid enough to eat an endangered species, but if he did, it would be reprehensible.

I seriously doubt, obama is worried about offending anyone.

Did you see the gift exchanges.....oh boy.

Except...with gifts...it's the thought that counts. As a diplomat, the whole mission is for not if the gusts offends the host. Apples & Oranges w/that analogy.

Was it Beluga, the whale, or the sturgeon? I'm betting it was the sturgeon.

President Obama Eating Endangered Whale???

That is sorely lacking in the sourced material. Where did that come from?

He's busy working for the Japanese in Animal Planet's Whale Wars. Just a guess though

Well to be fair:

IUCN classifies the beluga as Endangered. It is a protected species listed in appendix III of the Bern Convention and its trade is restricted under CITES appendix II. The Mediterranean population is strongly protected under appendix II of the Bern Convention, prohibiting any intentional killing of these fish.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service has banned imports of Beluga Caviar and other beluga products from the Caspian Sea since October 6, 2005. wiki

So it's a fish but an endangered one.

Russian agencies, quoting the government's press service, said Putin treated Obama to black caviar with sour cream, smoked Beluga with pancakes and tea made in the traditional Russian samovar, a big coal-fired kettle.

There ya go

[Editor’s note: The original version incorrectly identified the animal used to produce smoked beluga. It is a fish.] csm

Is it a case of "Bash Obama at any Cost"?

Well, I hope, at least, he didn't vomit on Putin!

Not really. I did a search on Beluga's and it seems that they ARE endangered in some areas, not in most. The sourced material doesn't mention any of this.

Ehm, no you didn't ...

You said he had beluga whale without looking up what the article was referring to. A process that took me all of two minutes.

Then you decided to thread that in Regional Politics.

I look forward to your groundbreaking thread on Obama snacks.

Did you hear that on Obama's China trip he will partake in a tasty meal of Giant Panda
Sorry, I know this doesn't constructively contribute...but hey, it's 2 lines long.
