Will the memory of what it once meant to be an American die with us, or become a fable to talk about as some urban tale told around a campfire?
The simple fact is that the victors write history, and generally vilify the opposition. Should this effort fail, should liberty falter and be
extinguished, the very name "Patriot" and all those who once bore it, will become synonymous with Huns, Mongols, Vikings. The "barbarians" of
olden times, who did battle with the "enlightened", yet ultimately vanished. Those same "barbarians" were generally possessed of a higher level of
civilization, and FAR more freedom, than was possessed by the agrarian peasants they warred against. Yet here we are with them as the villains. Just
as they were, Patriots will be the butt of stories told to frighten children. Camp fire tales. Bogey men.
This because they are the ONLY threat to the steady march towards Statism, which will be spun as "the dictatorship of the proletariat", or other
suchlike socialistic drivel. Patriots, FREE Men, are the enemy, the threat to, the only fear of, the Authoritarian Statist Elites. Truly, to The
Powers That Be, Patriots ARE the modern-day Bogey Men. In death, they will be vilified.
Yet they will be, and ever remain, even in the coils of death, FREE men. They will never be among the conquered, only among the dead. This because a
free man can NEVER be conquered. He can only be killed.
NONE of those villains of old (or the heroes of old either, for that matter), however vilified they may be, are anything other than what they always
were. It matters not how they were labeled by lesser men, nor does it matter what stories are told of them in hushed tones by the fearful and the
timid. Those men, as is true of any other, are no less nor more than what they were. Campfire tales told to frighten children into submission do
NOTHING to change what actually WAS, only how it is remembered.
Thus, the way in which posterity will remember a man, for good or for ill, is NOT an excuse to shrink from the rights and responsibilities, the
DUTIES, of a free man. To do so means THAT individual was never free to begin with, however loudly he may have claimed freedom. Freedom is not
external to us, it is internal. It is BORN IN us, never GIVEN TO us.
To fail to exercise that freedom, to fail in one's duties, merely means that one always WAS a slave, and always will be. A prime example would be the
Statist Progressives, or whatever they prefer to call themselves today. During the cold war they were called Communists. As with us, so with them, in
that a change of name for PR purposes never changes the contents. Or lack thereof. They were, are, and always will be, slaves. Even those who fancy
themselves Slave Masters.
Pity not the dead, for they have finally found peace. Pity rather those who choose to live on, as slaves. For such as those, peace will never be.
Death before Dishonor. Death before Slavery.
