WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration said Tuesday it could continue to imprison non-U.S. citizens indefinitely even if they have been acquitted of terrorism charges by a U.S. military commission.

Jeh Johnson, the Defense Department's chief lawyer, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that releasing a detainee who has been tried and found not guilty was a policy decision that officials would make based on their estimate of whether the prisoner posed a future threat.

The camps were never about "preventing terrorism" or "gathering information." They were torture porn for the Elite. They were a spectacle we staged so that the rest of the world could see the American Empire can do what it wants, to whom it wants, whenever it wants to do it.

We will imprison, torture, kill, release, or continue to hold captive at will. The message of the detainment policy under Bush is the same as it will be under Obasma--International regulations don't matter. International opinion doesn't matter. America is the great sorcerer, we make reality. We have officially made mere paper of treaties, laws, and agreements.

So this is hardly a surprising development for anyone who has been Awake.

oh gee I guess when we capture a terrorist we should wait until he is good and ready to tell us when the next attack will be. Just out of being curious...How would you get info? Set them up in a five star hotel with breakfast in bed?

Ok listin here I am only going to say this once and than leave it be.

I spent 2 years there in gitmo and I can say that the detainees never were water boarded there nore were they tortured. They did however throw feces and urine on guards and they got movie nights yes friends your tax dollars hard at work movie nights a multi million dolor education center 3 square meals a day and the food is good better than what I eat most nights and we guards treated them with respect and dignity at all times prayer time was always respected but when you say that place is for the élites no sir or mam you are wrong it is for terrorists! And info gathering and you clame that we, torture, kill, do you have proof the the killing detaines part? can you show me wheer we killed a detainee in gitmo? I think you would be hard pressed to and ICRC would be allover us if we did thoes guys are exact when they do there walk threws I have never tortured nor killed any one ever.

If the Elites want information, they get it. The Nazis discovered that the best way to get information was through a combination of isolation, intoxication, and then the application of extremes of physical discomfort. The information is then verified. The subject is disposed of. The CIA and other groups have perfected this tactic.

The detainment camps were never about fighting "terrorism" (chuckle) or detaining suspected criminals. They were to show the world that we can detain whomever we want, whenever we want to. Information gathering is an efficient process that doesn't require the subject to be held any longer than necessary to verify the information, after which they can be disappeared (and their families too, if necessary).

The torture that went on in US detainment camps was specifically designed to show that we are the biggest badasses on the block. It was designed, choreographed, to send a message. How do you think images ever leaked out in the first place? They were leaked because we wanted the world to see what we can do, whenever we want to do it.

Why do you think there will never be any war crimes prosecutions by Obama? Because Obama is as much a part of the American Empire as was Bush. Because both serve the same agendas, the same masters.

The real reason they do not want to let them out is they are afraid that they may have turned some innocent people into terrorist. You take an innocent person and lock them up call them a terrorist long enough and treat them as a terrorist long enough you have made a terrorist where there was not one before. An innocent person put though hell for no reason might be looking for some payback and very easy turn terrorist. There was a thread on this every thing here on ATS but I can not find it right now.

If they're acquitted and still held isn't that legally speaking kidnapping? Of course they have their excuses but that doesn't change the facts imho.

the issue becomes finding them a place to go after they are legaly set free so to speek they can't come here and we sure as hell are not going to send them to china...can anyone say killed on the runway? and than its a political game to see who will take the ex detainee imo I say if they are inocent and a country wants them even if it is china forget it send them!

Besides the whole 'future threat' argument is bollocks. Especially the innocent ones will pose a future threat to the US. What else would you expect from someone who has been wrongfully detained and send to prison? It's not like they look fondly back at the years lost.
