I think it's a nighmare for all of us. I wonder if the massive illegal workers have contributed to California going bust? They simply arent recieving any revenue, more goes out that is coming in.

How exactly do you mean that they don't pay taxes - that they are getting paid 'under the table'? Because, actually those that work at 'regular' jobs, do in fact pay taxes, but can't get their refunds or unemployment benefits because at that point they do get caught...not exactly fair either.

They should be taxed and maybe even double to account for the money that leaves our economy by going back out of the country and for the medical bills and welfare so many of them abuse. Maybe those of us who pay taxes and support them should get their refunds and unemployment benefits instead. Again, the greedy employers should be paying waaay more than they are now when they get caught.

The Eastern Europeans around here are mostly from the Ukraine. They don't want to spend their money at all. They are the tightest bunch of people. The jobs here they do is buy salvaged cars and literally piece them back together and try to resell them. Again, they are also a large group that mostly live in public housing and use the ER for doctor's offices and use food stamps and WIC.

Around here, if you are black or white, and you are collecting any sort of welfare benefits you are required to take job training and get a job or at least be trying, unless you are disabled. I have no idea why those that are not citizens or those with temporary citizenship or whatever they call it are not required to do the same.

I have a doublewide I rent. The last time I advertised for it I had about 40 calls, all of them had foreign accents and all wanting to know if I took section 8 (the government is paying the rent for a 12 month lease). So, why would they want to take our jobs when they can get everything for free or next to nothing is beyond me.

It's not the Mexican's fault............It's the fault of the people who allow it to happen..They are just trying to better their and their families lives, wouldn't you do the same?

It's the fault of the people who allow it to happen in the first place....

If it is not allowed, the Mexican's ( who are smart people ) will realize that they can't make enough here and move back.........And some will stay and get an education and contribute fully to our country , which is honorabl

i'm sorry, are americans allowed to do stuff and use the excuse "well you LET me get away with it"?! they should be more offended by people who think they are morons than people who insist they "do the right thing" by contributing in some way to the society they wish to infiltrate.

i really saw a sticker at wal mart the other know the calvin peeing on....AMERICA. words cannot express the disgust i felt walking into the store after that. and thats a common sentiment from illegals in california.

WONDERWORLD: i guarantee it AT LEAST contributed.
i heard some ad the other day, "can i get cash aid if i am not a citizen?" "YES, you can!" wouldn't it be more fitting if that was in Obama's voice? lmao
i worked at a restaurant and at least half the employees were ILLEGAL...not just mexican..and i don't just THINK that. i know. the management laughed at me when i said in a surprised tone that a customer thought one of the employees was illegal..."they ARE!" i didn't stay long after that.

Oh, that would have tempted me to flatten some tires.
Same here in NC. They hate us here as well. I had one get really irate because no one here where I work spoke Spanish. I finally had it and told him we didn't have to learn his language, he needed to learn ours. He left and never came back. Oh well.

Plenty of them have jobs at McDonalds and they can't understand us and gee, go figure your order is probably wrong as well. Then they all speak Spanish amongst each other behind the counter. Who was that guy in NJ that got in trouble because he wouldn't let anyone work there unless they spoke English on the job. Good for him.

Yes, I looked at a chart of illegals working in California. I dont see how they can avoid the possibility, that this does not geneate money in CA. and is part of the blame for a bankrupt state.

There are now 5 states fiscally going under.

Capitalism and money have no nation. More competition = smaller wages to pay = more profit.

So I reviewed quite a few posts on the thread and I see bigotry subtly creeping into the discussion. I understand that people are upset about the double standard we are seeing with this whole immigration debate. Personally, I come from immigrants about two generations ago and I am sure my great-grand parents where ridiculed like the Mexicans and other ethnic groups coming to this country in search of work and a better life for their family. I had a great-grandmother that could barely speak English her entire life and was a cleaning woman like many of the illegals today. Then her husband, my great-grandfather, worked in a leather tannery working 12 hours a day and 7 days a week in some outright inhumane conditions in Chicago. Then my other great-grandfather worked in the coal mines in eastern Pennsylvania and couldn't speak English as well.

All of them came from Eastern Europe, and I know for a fact during the 20's and 30's they faced ridicule and disrespect by natural born xenophobes. So looking back on my ancestors experiences, I can have empathy for the many illegals coming to this country looking for a better life. My ancestors where scorned for speaking their native languages and teaching their children the language and culture. They were feared to be socialists, communists, and for their strange religious beliefs and customs by the Anglo/Protestant elites. To be honest, I don't even know if their papers where in order from talking to my parents and grandparents. However, they were as American as we are today; my grandparents gave their sons to the war effort and they fought the Germans and Japanese.

So to scorn the illegal immigrants is meaningless and futile. They are going to go where ever opportunity presents itself much like all the immigrants in this country's history. The ones we should be angry with are the politicians and the employers who are disrespecting the immigration laws. They are the ones who should be engaged about this issue not the immigrants legal or illegal.

By just granting citizenship to illegals all you do is set a precedent. Rewarding bad behavior just encourages it. So much for the rule of law. Way too much selective enforcement of existing laws. The latino's who dislike Americans tend to forget why they ran across the border in the first place. Trying to escape conditions back home that were created by their own. Legally speaking as they are not citizens none of the rights and privelages should be extended to them. Nothing un-American about that, it's just common sense.

They have toughened up the immigration laws a lot since our ancestors came here.

The land of opportunity is only so big and can only handle a certain amount of people.

Now it is US citizens that are out of work or being replaced with illegal’s. Not paying taxes or contributing to social security is ruing our economy.

Look at California.

There is no bigotry. It is what it is. Again, I said I don't have a problem with people who migrate here as long as they do it legally. I'm sure your grandparents came thru Ellis Island as mine did, they worked hard to provide for their families and meld into the American lifestyle while still being able to keep their traditions and hold on to their ethnic pride.

The problem is just handing out jobs and citizen ship to cowards who sneak into this country and refuse to acclimate, instead, taking all they can get and sending it back out of the country and insisting that we adapt to their nationalities and learn their languages. Really, if I were going to move to another country I would have my paperwork in order, would have a good grasp of the language and expect to have to adapt to the new society I would be living in. I would not expect people in another country to give me handouts and learn to speak English. It's just plain old wrong.

No one on this thread is being racist or bigoted, please remember there is an extremely large group of people of a certain race that make the few that do follow the rules and obey the laws look bad. They know how to use and abuse our system and because of that, hard working tax paying citizens who may be out of work or had hours and wages cut back, of this country are being short changed. As someone stated earlier, the government and corporations are rewarding bad behavior. Come break the law and see what you win!

That site isn't entirely correct. It is just referring to a suit brought by the ACLU, that really has nothing to do with Obama.

Obama hasn't even really approached illegal immigration yet. He will do that soon.

First off, yes I understand that we pay taxes and into SS. But your employer also pays into taxes and ss for you. So it is not one sided. Which is another reason employers love under the table.

The plan being offered is...
If those who are here want to become citizens, they will have to pay all the fines according to the laws they broken.
And of course they will start paying into ss and pay taxes.

Maybe even back pay a few years.

The thing is, there is a SS crises coming. ANd I mean crisis and I am far from an alarmist. We just don't have the people to support the babyboomers. Well if you don't have enough residents, what do you do?

So I think they are depending on this work force to help boost SS. yes it is some job losses, but SS is a much bigger problem.

Besides, by the time all this happens the recession should be on its way back up.

But ever consider that if those who are gettin paid under the table have to pay taxes and SS, do you think they are all gonna stay?

Not so lucrative now is it?

But the people that are here, and have been here, will get amnesty, but the borders will be more controlled after that, as well as the employers. Basically the door will be closed.

I know no one on ats will agree, but I think it is a very diplomatic approach to things.

How did an illegal get a legal social security card?
Aren't they not supposed to have one?

They can get one when they are legal citizens, until then, two words: Identity Theft.

If I remember correctly it seems I was told they can get a tax id number or something similar, but I don't remember what it was called and they could use that to pay taxes. Wonder how many are actually doing that?

Where I live you seen them arrested all the time for giving false names to a judge or when they get arrested for something and also for trying to get driver's licenses with false info. Most get away with it, come get caught.

Good point about illegal aliens having a social security card. It must be fake ID.

They can hire people as independent contractors, in any job. This way the company isnt required to pay taxes, unemployment, state industrial etc.

It's also possible her paid her with a personal check, under the table, rather than a company check.

"Wonderworld" I would like to share a short story with you if that is cool?

My oldest son (21) was hanging out with some of his friends Saturday afternoon, they were laughing so much that it drew my attention so I went over and asked what was up? I would have never expect to hear this response.

Marcus, (one of the friends) who is the son of illegal (Mex) immigrant parents who had been working for a fast food restaurant since he was 15 yrs of age, he started off making minimum wage as even Americans do in that field but had been making close to $59k yr as a manager until Friday.

Appearntly even though he was born in Mexico he resisted speaking spanish once he started going to school here with English speaking students, so much so that he wasn't able to communicate with his fellow illegal immigrant employees whom had no problems during the interview process to get the jobs.

After hiring them at the lowest wage possible, not giving more then the approved corporate 5 cent raises every 6-9 months, doing everything possible to keep the crews productive when business was slow the employees decided that he wasn't one of them. They all complained to higher management making claims that he was unable to manage them without showing discrimination within his management style (?).

Heres the kicker! He was let go for not using E-Verify prior to offering employement to his ENTIRE illegal immirgant work force. Not one of his employees were legal including himself but because he didn't speak a word of spanish they turned on him lol...

Now what gets me is I don't know any American that wouldn't except those jobs at mimimum wage today especially our teens. I don't know any American that wouldn't be happy with $59k yr in management even if it is the food industry! I love your thread!
