Credit for what? What has he done? He hasn't done anything except continue the same ole Bush policies.

And as far as what to do with the banks? Let them fail. The only way for the debt to leave the system is to either pay it or default it. In order for the debt to be paid money would have had to be given the the holders of the debt.

Instead all they(Bush and Obama) did was give the banks money so they could line their pockets.

Sure it sounds like it would be really bad, but most people would have been able to keep their homes because the banks would have had to either A)sell the debt to another creditor B)just write the debt off.

If they would have let the banks fail the process would have been quick and painful, but by doing what they did which is bailing the banks out, its going to be long and very painful.

Sometimes there just is noway around the pain. This is one of those situations where doing nothing would have actually been better.

And the people stupid enough to work hard and save hard. What happens to them when you allow the banks to collapse ? (I say you, you're the one advocating it). Or the millions who see their companies collapse and end up drawing benefits ... this lost generation whom you seem quite happy to see left with nothing

Q. How p*ssed off will they be with you then ?

1. Not very
2. A little bit
3. Rather a lot
4. Burning fiery crosses on your lawn

Q. Who gets the blame when capitalism implodes ?

1. The previous guy
2. The Illuminati
3. The bankers
4. You
5. You
6. You
7. You
8. You
9. You
10. You
11. You
12. You
13. You
14. You
15. You
16. You
17. You
18. You
19. You
20. You

(repetez ad nauseum)

It's easy to be so certain when it's not your own responsibility, nicht wahr ?

You mean all the companies that are collapsing now? We have Chapter 11 bankruptcy, if a company is going to collapse it is because they haven't been running their business properly.

Not only that, but in a just world when the mega banks collapsed the books would be investigated and then criminal charges would have been filed.

Right now the criminals are actually being given money for screwing up. What is happening is that because these big banks aren't allowed to fail it is bringing down businesses that wouldn't have failed to begin with.

You can't defy market forces. And no this isn't the implosion of Capitalism, this is the implosion of corporatism. We haven't had anything close to Capitalism in this country for a long time.

You need to wake up to reality. Pumping trillions of dollars into these banks that are so deep in debt to the tune of 100+ trillion dollars isn't going to solve anything.

Giving money to the banks is making the economy much much worse. Then add in on top of all that, Obama and friends spending trillion of more dollars and the whole thing is going to implode.

Bailing out the banks was the wrong decision. In turn it is going to make things worse.

Oh yea the people that had their money in the banks, that is what the FDIC is for. It sucks, but it's going to happen no matter what they did, but bailing out the banks only made the situation that much worse.

And this happens in every economy with central planning, Socialism Communism, Fascism, its all about the monetary policy. There is no perfect system as long as you have stupid people. In fact in Socialism Communism and Fascism the problem will be much more pronounced.

How about you address my concerns. Since everything in your first post was about how ridiculous the issues are that most people hold against Obama, how about you better help me understand where I am wrong.

I would have let the mortgage companies modify the mark to market, let the banks that were going to fail, fail. Keep in mind - this stuff doesn't just disappear when someone goes tits up. The assets are still in place, and another, more savvy player picks up the pieces and continues.

I would have immediately cut all taxes, individual and corporate taxes to 11%. This would have surged EXISTING money into the economy, negating this disaster we have going.

I would have eliminated a couple hundred Federal subsidy programs, eliminated the Department of Education, reduced the DOE by half, eliminated the Fed and transferred responsibilities to the Department of Treasury, reduced the Departments of Housing, Agriculture, Health and Human Services, Labor, and Transportation by half.

I would have told Congress that I want a Flat Tax - no graduations, or a Fair Tax - no graduations on my desk within 60 days, and would implore the States call a Constitutional Convention to reassert the 10th Amendment, rescind the Sixteenth Amendment, and rescind the Seventeenth Amendment, whereby Senators would once again be appointed by their State Legislatures.

I would order the US Army Corps of Engineers and every military man required, to build a secure fence across our southern borders, and would require Congress to pass a law that after 30 grace period, all employees must have citizenship verified, and for every employee that is a non-citizen, the employer would be fined $25,000 for each employee, and face a mandatory sentence of 60 days in a Federal prison. All children born to illegals would not be citizens, as one illegal act does not validate another, legal act.

That would be a good, first week.

Oh I agree...they would have denounced him as a fraud and nailed him up a lot sooner.

Why do you think funnymentalist Christianity is Christian in name only? If you listen to their preachers and all they draw far more on the harsher Old Testament than the far more compassionate New.

Do you have anything to say besides toeing the partisan line and regurgitating talking points?

The reason why people on the right don't like Obama is because we don't know anything about him. He kept it all secret and still is. The people on the right knew what kind of person he was, but we all got bashed saying this and that isn't true and all that, and wow imagine that its all happening.

I could easily just say the people that agree with Obama agree with him because he is a progressive democrat. That would be the true description of him, he is a progressive, aka Socialist or some kind of wired mix of a socialist and a corporatist. He is most definitely not a liberal.

The fact is he is destroying this country, and his platform of "change" is the same road we have been heading down. The left only agrees with it because it is "their guy" doing it.

Edit - spelling and grammar

It's difficult to imagine quite how bad it would now be had our governments simply let the banks collapse ... surely bailing the banks out was the least worst option of the two ? And wasn't President Obama caught between a rock & a hard place ?

It's not like this financial crisis came as a great surprise. Contributors even here were bemoaning the state of the economy & predicting collapse during the election campaign. He's seemingly an intelligent guy, I'm sure he knew which way we were heading ... and yet he still campaigned and got himself elected, dealing himself one of the worst hands any new President has had since Carter.

Doesn't he deserve any credit at all ? For anything ?

Sure, he deserves credit for being a member of the corporatocracy - and good, obedient member at that.

We are a Capitalist society. Businesses that make bad decisions deserve to fail.

He wasn't dealt anything, sir! He IS part of the problem. You act as though his spaceship just landed here on January 17th. Was he NOT a member of the US Senate prior to becoming President? Was Joe "Bonehead" Biden also not a member of the same Senate? Was "Bungling" Nancy Pelosi not in charge of the House?

Look, I'm not a Republican or a Democrat... I am a proud LIBERTARIAN and suggest the rest of you partisans look into it!

Obama's failures are far too many and wide-ranging to enumerate here. The sum of a man is the sum of his actions. His actions have been abject failures, ergo Obama is an abject failure!

If America is to survive as either a Constitutional Republic or a beacon to other nations, this man needs to be removed from office pronto. When dictators like Hugo Chavez state that Obama is even further to the left than he is, it is time to take pause people!
