That is only the case for embryonic stem cells, which doesn't include other kinds such as mesenchymal stem cells. And that isn't even true anymore,
we can derive new embryonic stem cell lines from other sources. We can even "pluck" out one stem cell without destroying an embryo, due to recent
advancements.
The truth is that now is the time to progress medicine with stem cell research; we are developed and responsible enough.
