But, I was serious about getting some sleep. You must be ALERT when the SHTF!
It isn't worth worrying about...be mentally prepared to do want ever you have to do, is the best plan you can have. Stay healthy....

whew glad that's settled.

as for being prepared..i'm doing my best. i don't have a lot of support from friends and family (other than my 19 yo son) in that area tho...that's mostly why i worry. but i also know my survival instincts and will are high...thanks to parents who did survive the thick of wwii, i probably know as much about what could and would happen as anyone in this unlikeliest of scenarios.

Support comes from a variety of sources, and you have a lot of that HERE, and on ATS!

Well you would have the majority of Europe on your side, imo we owe the US a debt of honour after your aid in WW2(and then you can pay us instead of us paying you back ^^), i know we wouldnt of won without the supplies you bravely sent to us Brits and then the eventual entering of the war.. if it's against the Chinese and Russians i'd volunteer to go with the Expeditionary Force

I might be all anti-US government but not against the American people and i lament the British Empire having to be given up due to US pressure and repayments from the war.. *sigh* anyway i for one wouldnt leave you to defend yourselves on your own.. you got your cousins at your back!

imo you would be able to hold on for a while...but not forever.. two HUGE countries with very powerful militaries on your country as you say which is demoralised and disillusioned and militarily weak due to overstretching. You would need another continent on your side.. I.E Europe.. remember you got N Korea and Cuba aswell who would most likely join the conflict if it happened, beware the literal "red dragon" on your doorstep.

technologically wise your army is best but quality wise i would say sub-par to western militaries, you barely took over 2 countries in 8 years with the loss of over 6,000 troops and 10,000's wounded

i seriously cannot see the US military being able to outlast cyber attacks,airborne attacks,seaborne attacks and amphibious landings..

you would hold on but not win... China would overrun within a few months

they have 17 million soldiers in reserve along with 540 million being of age and medically fit for a war... take out NORAD,STRATCOM,The Pentagon and your cyber war divison (don't know the name) you would be militarily annhilated for a good amount of time till emergency powers take over. if they hit the white house unexpectedly with the president and your cabinet inside i think say bye bye to all military and civil leadership

hell a hacker with Aspergers shut down your atlantic fleet for 3 weeks and compromised the pentagon security systems.. you need strengthening in every region i read a report in 2006 about NORAD and the USAF only has 2 fighters patrolling the east coast at any one time and 4 on the west coast...i mean wow...i feel really secure if i lived there (!)

a few words to that..

1 you don't have thousands of satellites, (i believe it's 110-230 most arent used for spying most are communications or entertainment)
2.coast guard patrols can be annihilated quickly with a missle strike,
3 radar can be slipped by with stealth tech, or by flying low (less than 100 metres above ground)
4 and aircraft carriers are now adapting that technology
5. and the US isnt prepared for invasion it ha splans but not implemented..

i don't see any barbed wire,tank traps,mines,gun emplacements,tank divisions, military outposts on your coasts or any SAM sites anywhere but military bases.. and ALL invasions begin with communication cuts and mass attacks on all known bases (kill them while they sleep... basically)

EDIT: also there arent 100's of B2's (around 30) when they get revealed on radar when they drop the bombs they will be shot down easily

another thing to note the Chinese do have the means to transport.. did you miss the flexing of the naval arms? they are on par with US navy with no carriers BUT there are 14 aircraft carriers in production first 7 to be finished in early 2010

I'm serious the USA alone would be annihilated if China AND Russia went to war with you. Russia can cross the bering straight into alaska and set that as their main strike base.. the CHinese would need to cross the ocean BUT with good escorts and experienced crew they could traverse it..

the only way the US could win is by using illegal weapons.. Nukes,Bio,Chem,EMP's,White Phosphorus,Microwave lasers(boil the water in your body) and much more that hasnt been revealed!

bear in mind if your stupid enough to use them.. be prepared to see the USA crumble under thousands of nuclear weapons

thanks for your comment and opinion. i don't find my "paranoia" any more or less hilarious that the generalizing (and factless and numberless) jingoism in your post. no wait...hilarious isn't the word for your post...frighteningly simplistic might be better.

i fully realize this isn't the 1940s. It's 2009 and both our volunteer military and their equipment have been stretched woefully thin in the past 6-8 years. with things heating up in the asian corridor, it might even be stretched a bit thinner in the near future.

yep. and the chinese (for example) have a proven track record at taking out satellites, don't they? and as i mentioned before, the schematics for at least one DoD satellite. i personally don't know if a plan to defend our soil at home even exists...i would ASSUME it must but then again i've assumed wrong before. and i'm certainly not privy to any compromises that may have occured to continue fighting our current wars.

Not Texas, no. However, they could take oklahoma, new mexico and louisianna. That gives them 3 bases to launch attacks from, it would be the alamo all over again. However, yes, holding it would be almost near impossible.

on the ground, i couldn't agree more. if they bomb you, that might be a little tougher.

interesting how we seem to be hearing on a state-by-state level...it's good to see people preparing locally. but it's almost as if the assumption is little to no support on a national level, when one of the primary function OF the federal government is defense. maybe i'm reading too much into that.

So 1.3 million active...would it be safe to assume at least half of them are on u.s. soil? And then we have reserves and of course law enforcement.

with over 300 million and a land mass as big as our to defend, would this even be doable?

isn't china one of the many nations that has mandatory conscription and training? that might be a factor too when we consider any new enlistees/draftees here in the u.s. would need to be trained, maybe on bases that were destroyed.
