Yeah, it'll be global. It'll just after the places with daylight the most..

And quit the caps.. It looks like you just got AOL or something.

Come to think of it would the poles not be affected more than most places? The auroras are the magnetic field dancing in the solar wind and trying to snap back into position an they apear around the magnetic poles.. I may be wrong but its just a thought

When I checked earlier today it went Class C for a little while around 1am Central Time.

There are no alerts or warnings on this sunspot but it's being watched carefully.

Here is a NASA article that explains what a solar storm can do:

Sorry, so many threads I don't know if I posted this yet:

DISCLAIMER: This is *JUST A THEORY* and unlike most my posts, I can't back this one up.

Yes, the energy DOES go into the poles, but the daylight areas around the equator receive the most UV, therefore it evaporates a LOT of water in those areas that get carried into natural Earth currents.. (this part has been proven)

MEANWHILE, all of that energy going into the poles has to go SOMEWHERE, and an effect is the pushing super cold air masses down into the jetstream also (as far as I know, this is the unproven part)

Now, what happens when you mix cold+warm air? Electrical storms.

Took 90 seconds.

Just sayin'...

my toilet could stop working.
ok now i'm worried.

thanks for the link.

on a heavier note, if the u.s. loses electricity for what is it, two days, total anarchy follows on the third? is that how it goes?

Well yes, all of the businesses, banks, hospitals, schools rely on electricity to function.

I would think that there would be a lot of rioting and looting because of the economic situation we are already in. My understanding is that if it is a big enough one to knock out that much power across that large an area then you will not see power come back up in just a few days. It would be like fry all of the equipment and possibly set phone wires on fire.

Just a side note: none of what I said above looks like it will happen any time soon so please don't freak out.

Ok let's please focus on what IS happening, rather than what COULD happen - we have a few years to worry about that...

The Magnetosphere Live has been static for hours if not 1 day. Its never that static even on a good day.

STEREO B COR2 is offline too!

What is that ? Mercury ? I wonder if you remember this one:
stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov...

The original video was actually saved here:
www.youtube.com...

I wonder why the resolution changed on NASAs website?

Yes, it's Mercury.
I'm not sure what you mean about the resolution changing. There are higher resolution images available, I used 512 so it would fit here.

Recent space weather.....we got a coronal hole showing itself

A solar wind stream flowing from this high-latitude coronal hole will probably miss Earth. Credit: SOHO Extreme UV Telescope
