I believe that ideas are becoming too politicized. No. Not your regular political idea. I'm talking about stuff like global warming, abortion, religion, family values, environmentalism, and, these other issues that should be outside the sphere of government. I don't believe that the government should encroach on our social, religious, or, whatever other of those kinds of beliefs which we may have as we all know that governments when they get the power become too powerful and use the ideas as excuses to gain more political power. This whole left and right issue has become too based on ideas... what the government should regulate. The only thing the government is supposed to do right now is to regulate some commerce, like, make foods safer, as we don't have other private agencies that do that at the moment, keep us safe, and represent us abroad. I don't think that the government should be regulating things which it shouldn't be in... like with fractional reserve banking... I don't think the government should allow the banks to go around spending your money and just reimburse them when they lose money or gain money depending on whatever. Ideas as a whole have become too politicized. We need to stop this politicization of ideas here. Health care should not be a left right issue. Environmentalism should not be a left right issue. Religion should not be a left or right issue. Who here thinks we've stepped over the lines the last few years/decades maybe?

i completely agree. Its part of control, once they begin to regulate ideas, they are setting the norm. They say what is right and wrong. Yet they can get away with doing those very things. When it comes to publicising (hwvr u spl it) ideas, they cause naivity and ignorance. People listen to the news and think that is the whole case, truth. No. Take global warming for example, now go look into it yourself...look up "air scrubber". Then get back to me

This is perhaps the most important post on ATS at present. Your logic is right on OP. Our media has manipulated the left/right paradigm to such an extent that the definition of conservative or liberal is not even correct anymore as it is all agenda based, not philosophical based. There was a thread on ATS about a month ago about a third party. I don't think a third party is necessary, if that third party will be based around agenda's.

Here is what I would like to see. Federal Government return to a manageable entity that is concerned only with protecting those things outlined in the constitution. Common defense, general welfare, and protecting life, liberties, and the pursuit of happiness. This can only occur if the right to petition is reopened to the public. In other words if you disagree with a law as it detriments your life, liberty, or interferes with your pursuit of happiness you may petition to challenge that law with either a body of citizens, or a court. The petition would be held to common law practices and if it is found to have been detrimental to any of those things the law is undone. The other thing that you would have to do is change the economic system currency and how it works.

There is no reason this country can not provide health care to everyone, make sure they are well fed, feel safe, and have shelter. Without those things you cannot have life liberty or pursue happiness. I say this can be done with a rather small government, where no income taxes need to be collected. I know it can be done. All this takes is for us all to come to an agreement that our government has lost touch with American needs. Get government out of every facet of life, let private sectors flourish, and provide the basic necessities of life for those in our society that may not be able to afford it. But here is the thing...ALL must be entitled to it with no strings attached.

I agree with your reasoning OP. I think that the great divides are made greater by the day thanks in no small part by the work of the corporate media. The forth arm of government or the ministry of truth what have you is exaggerating everything and manipulating the public mind to work people up into a frenzy over things which we could better handle on the local level or through private enterprise.
