Even though President Barack Obama followed through with his pledge to freeze the salaries of White House staffers making more than $100,000, Team Obama is making 15% more than what George W. Bush’s crew made in 2008. An analysis by National Journal’s Hotline on Call revealed that Obama although did indeed freeze the top salaries, he also has more people working for him than Bush. The salary information was posted on the White House website, a first for any administration.

First the $13,000 suite and now this. How can you possibly sell these things to the public. More and more people are becoming homeless, unemployed and worse and Obama? He doesn't care. Why would he?

I agree with Anonymous Avatar that this 15% increase is more or less on par with the inflation that was initially forecast for this year.

As Ron Paul states Inflation is really a hidden tax.

While it might offend us that his staff are getting well paid and he is not keeping yet another promise, I think it behoves us to turn one blind eye to this...

And use the other eye to gauge next year and in the years ahead as he no doubt will keep increasing the staff's annual salary, what percentage he is increasing as a good means of determining the actual percentage of the hidden Inflation Tax.

Got it Americans whether you are poor and pay no money in taxes, or whether you simply don't pay taxes to the IRS or whether you are well off or like the IRS and pay taxes...

Your taxes have in fact already gone up by at least 15% under Obama!

Wow! 15% increase. I should go work for Barry. My company gave out 1.5% raises to the top performers throughout this past year. My wife got a large promotion and received an 8% bump up.

Glad to see that Obama is setting his own standards. Lead by example Barry. I don't think he has it in him to lead in such a manner.

This greed just makes me cringe. What happened to our leaders standing in solidarity with the people and cutting back their extravagant lifestyles while we cut ours. The politicians are living in a bubble and are basically insulating themselves from the perils of society with moves like this. Whatever happened to the honest-politician who would live on half his salary as the people suffered financially.

There have been politicians that have done just that and that is the solidarity I am talking about. Call it, backing your words up with action! These people need to understand that they are Americans too and not nobility. However, significant pay increases during a recession is just plain greedy and detestable. Shame on the politicians who choose to live high off the hog while everyone else is suffering. Now don't get me wrong, if our country is prosperous, then by all means increase salaries as a reward for running the country well; but right now salary increases are ridiculous.

Such things are inexplicable but they don't care about it. All they care about is getting elected. After that, they are safe and sound to do whatever they desire. It's sickening but people who believed in change to come are utter fools.

The only politician I had a little faith in was Ron Paul. Unfortunately, he was boycotted by the media. Integrity doesn't seem to exist anymore these days among politicians.

A legal researcher makes 35k? The assistant press secretary makes 55k?

you realize that a regular secretary in the private industry makes the same. AND they only work 40 hours.

Many of these people are handling multiple positions and titles?

Most of the staffers work 60 hours or more.

AND, their credentials would have them making about 4-5 times as much in the private sector.


So it seems that Bush wasn't paying his employees. Not the other way around.

To sit here and gripe about the money they earn is obscene, when most of them are working long hours and are taking severe pay cuts to be public servants.

No one is gonna fault them for getting a little extra money.

Among the actual employees, 122 staffers earn more than $100,000 annually, compared to 125 employees in the final year of the Bush administration.

good heavens, these people only get paid a fraction of what they are worth.

The top executives lead careers that rival most corporate CEOS, who make MILLIONS. they are making 172,000.

The head of my little local agency makes that much.

No to side track this thread but if it gets to the point where Texas secedes, you can bet Texas won't be the only one.

I am sure these salaries don't include the perks these people enjoy at the tax payer's expense.
