Congress's Travel Tab Swells

online.wsj.com

The spending on overseas travel is up almost tenfold since 1995, and has nearly tripled since 2001, according to the Journal analysis of 60,000 travel records. Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.

Are we surprised? The “transparent” party, the party that was going to bring back “integrity” and “honesty” is really just spending our money and taking trips all over the world while putting the tab on us! When Obama took Michelle to NY City for his “date” I nearly threw up, especially after the big speech he gave after his inauguration about Americans needing to tighten our belts and be happy with a little less in order for us to get through this crisis. And what about all the parties Obama was throwing his friends and supporters in the White House each week after he moved in? In a February article on Politco.com, Amie Parnes writes that, “Since moving into their new digs, the first couple has hosted a half-dozen gatherings — from bipartisan cocktail receptions to a public open house to the more intimate Super Bowl party two Sundays ago — ending many of their days past midnight.” She went on to report that, “Most recently, on Wednesday, the Obamas opened the White House doors to House caucus leaders from the moderate Blue Dog Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus. White House aides say the couple hopes to make the Wednesday cocktail parties a tradition. Hmm all on the tax payers dime, and in a time when we are all to be “tightening our belts”. It seems that the kids have gotten the keys to the candy store and are having their fill of it. The question is what are we the people going to do about it? This same lack of respect for the tax payer as we pay for their parties, is the same lack of respect they manifest in the way they seem to vote our rights away over and over again. Prime example is the recent “climate legislation” that so many hammered in secret and voted for in blindness. God help us in these days ahead.
