Sundancer I do agree with many things you've posted. That said...

The Industrial Revolution is what did away with jobs, it was inevitable. (The welfare nanny state we live in has helped people lose their employment and educational ambitions too.) But understand that the population of the country and the world has boomed since the early 1900's and progress, technology and greed has dictated that less people can now do more. Look at the auto makers. Modern efficiency. In agriculture, family farms gave way to factory farms. It's been the same in every industry. Eventually you're making crap up for people to do. "Barista" is one occupation that comes immediately to mind not that I don't appreciate a "capachino for my bung hole". That's what's going on now with Obama's "green jobs". If these green technologies showed enough promise they would already be developed by the private sector without our tax dollars. Even if all these green technologies are as advertised does anybody really think they will employ millions? That's ludicrous. Yes jobs left for Mexico, Ireland, India and the like and now they're drying up there too. I agree that allowing those jobs to leave was wrong. But there's still too many people and too little that needs doing! We just happened to be alive to see the bubble of prosperity break. Lucky us!

And as for higher education to do what? Work for Wall Street, law firms, big pharma, be a doctor, a chemist, an IT specialist? Yeah we don't have enough of those folks unemployed. Well maybe a few more doctors but who will want to go to medical school only to wind up working for the government for a pittance of what your talents are worth? The hot major now is criminal justice. Every other person in the future will be a cop to police the other unemployed half. Now if you believe a rocket scientist will very quickly get everybody off this planet, then let's goooooo education! If not, we already have the best and brightest unemployed people on the globe. USA! USA! USA! Would you like fries with that?

Best, and brightest??? I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I have lived outside of the States for the last 5 years; in various countries.

Overall many other nations are more advanced in regards to the future for their children. The US was once the best, and brightest, but now only represent the largest amount of Fat, and Ignorant.

The numerous countries I've experienced will dominate over a future world order where unfortunately the US will play the 3rd world role. Not only Europe, Asia, and Latin America are striving forward. The children KNOW English before the age of 10, and even in what we consider 3rd world sh*t h*les they are learning US History.....?

Why US History? They are learning our thought process. Why we do what we do.

What do we learn in the States? How to be ignorant, and obnoxious.

Now what about the jobs situation? You don't address that at all. You can't, there are no answers. Too many people, to little to do no matter the level of their education. Education gives you the tools to self-soothe in the unemployment office. Next!

They were learning English and some US history at young ages in Latin America but many countries and tourist areas are rethinking the USA thing and starting to teach their young ones Chinese. That's not a good sign for us, but I'm sure you already know that being traveled .

Another thing you probably know but not many Americans do, is that many areas in Mexico are in building booms with a fast growing middle class. We not going to see that on Fox news.

If you care as much about your children maybe the solution is to pay homage to what this place was before we came and adhere to what these "primatives" believed...the planet is but a mother that needs to be treated with respect...until then, let's plan on strife and hardship.

Well it appears the earth is beginning to demand some respect, as well she should.

The thread is doing wonderful. We have some mature people with great thoughts and opinions, I didn't want to throw it off by arguing with Larry. Several people have given him links to homes that have been wrongly broken into by the police, who have terrorized the occupants and killed their pets. I'm not going to go there.

And no, I didn't mention the poison injections they are forcing on our children. Excellent point!!!

We have given away their freedom, jobs, money, education, and their safety. We have selfishly traded their futures in exchange for our ability to eat potato chips, drink beer and watch reality TV without having to be bothered by protests, petitions or meeting with our congressmen.

This isn't about Democrat or Republican, this is about our kids.
If you really love your kids, get off your couch and give them back their future.
