reply to post by Phage

Thanks Phage for clearing that let's see if it indeed turns up on the other side......
I await with a baited breadth...

Some ODD pictures of the sun today too.

This one caught my eye, because it looked different than the others:

Also the sunspots, which Phage suggested are causing the influx in Solar X-Ray output seem to have grown a bit in the last 24 hrs.

Here's an interesting fact on sunspots:

Sunspots, being the manifestation of intense magnetic activity, host secondary phenomena such as coronal loops and reconnection events. Most solar flares and coronal mass ejections originate in magnetically active regions around visible sunspot groupings. Similar phenomena indirectly observed on stars are commonly called starspots and both light and dark spots have been measured.[4]

Good find,

Could it possible be a asteroid ?

There are a LOT flying around out there..

i have no clue my self but am interested in what others think with much much more knowledge than me.

That is an asteroid that is bigger than Earth , mercury , venus and Mars combines then.......

Look at the size of that object in relation to the sun........

Only way I can see it being that is if that object is a lot closer to what is taking the picture than the sun...

Still not sure how that would work out though..

Interesting thread....S&F to keep it going...

[edit on 1/7/09 by Moreonethananyone]

Maybe that crop is of something entering into the sun......

What i would love to be around for is...........and this is a HUGE IF.......

What if the result of something hitting the sun , then initiates the Sun spitting out a NEW PLANET ? !

Would that not be the craziest , coolest thing ever to experience ...

A new planet being born.....

Looking at the above table it looks like its on the wrong side to be Mercury.

Change the title to :'Death IMINENT, Solar Collision MOMENTS AWAY!!!'

THAT should get their attention.

Ceres ?????? closer than Saturn ????? what??

please explain..

since there are reactions constantly occurring in the sun at all times something entering into it I dont' think would have much of an impact.....

If it was more solid like Earth then yea we would be F*****.....

BTW I like ur avy...

Only way it works is if the " Camera " is angled lower than both mercury and the sun.....Since it would be Off Earth it would be able too....

Then it could look as if mercury is passing by it....

Not convinced either way though......Still remains a mystery...

Ok that does it.........No more coincidence.....

A solar storm movie comes out on the same day we are too have a solar storm....

Who could correlate that to happen ? The movie industry...

Who has a hand in the movie industry ......supposedly some elites......

They have to let us know what is going on because of free will..

Is this their " hint "......

possible the et's are warning us via crop circles because they also can not interfere because of free will..

Another topic altogether but I feel a link somewhere between...

K back to the real topic..

Er just a remark about that, What good is a warning if you can do nothing about it?

Anyway the plot thickens.... wheres my sunblock

yea, you've come to the right place for an expert opinion

There are some ringers lurking in the bowels of ATS. If maybe a mikesingh or someone of that caliber comes on here and makes an intelligent post, I am likely to believe them.

Although I do like mike's posts, I wouldn't count out some of the other very smart unknown minds on this site who post frequently....

Ive been following this thread as a complete and utter novice, having no skills in this area. With that fact in mind I have a question?

Another poster has flagged that Nasa are shutting down their web based real time data service from 2nd - 6th July

Thread here.....

Is it at all possible that there is something heading our way that is new? a phenominom that is not a solar storm. Nasa knows and is protecting equipment (EMP) or stopping humanity panicking with the shutdown?

well that puts some things into perspective. The other object is much larger than that. That's kind of scary.

Kinda scary.

The object may be bigger then Merc, it may not be. It depends how close the object is to the camera and such.

Yea but since the sun and this object are both present at the same time , we can then measure the scale of the object compared to the sun in this pic and then find out how big this object is......

But I do see what your saying.....I wish we had more information to go on ...

Holy Hell! I went to dinner, and took care of a few things, and came back expecting to have an explanation laid out for me.

This thread is on the front page toward the top of the board, and no one has proved it to be anything ordinary. I am beyond shocked.

In fact some of you have showed some pretty compelling evidence that the object is not Mercury, because it isWAY TOO BIG to be Mercury. That is pretty damn scary if you ask me.

What happens if something the size of Jupiter collides with the Sun?

I bet it would be pretty freaking noticeable!

If that happens all our electronics probably overload and malfunction and some may even blow up if the electronic discharge is that great... i think.....

I would say this is more amazing and interesting than scary.......

That's really interesting so i'll be following this thread all day.

I wonder if it really is that size or just an effect of the camera.
I think it really depends on which direction this thing is travelling.

i kind of like the fact that nobody is really pushing a theory on us and it's all just kind of open subject right now...

Probably the most efficient way to come to a correct conclusion...

I wish more threads were like this......

Has made for a pleasant read so far..

It's DEFINITELY Mercury. Stereo consists of TWO spacecraft, both of which orbit the sun, in the same orbital path as Earth. One is called "A" or AHEAD, & is ahead of the earth, and the other is "B" or BEHIND & is behind the Earth. You'll notice that the B spacecraft is the one capturing the images of the object...

Well, a small amount of research will show you this picture, which shows exactly where A, B, Earth, Sun, and Mercury are RIGHT NOW:

Yes, from the point of view of B, mercury is traveling from right to left, and is currently on the right side of the sun..... so, yes,

ITS MERCURY!!!!!!!!!

To prove it another way, look at this orbit simulator:

[edit on 1-7-2009 by The Dispatcherator]

Why is it so big though, as isn't mercury closer to the sun than to earth ?

That would mean that if this is mercury , than our sun is a lot smaller than we "know " it is.....

That doesn't make sense though......

Still does not mean that it isn't Mercury but yea i'm still not convinced 100% either way....

1. The object appears to be generating its own light, not reflecting the light from the sun.

2. If this were an asteroid or planet, and reflecting the sun's light, at least a portion of it would be in shadow with a fairly clear delineation between "night" and "day". This would be true whether the object was viewed from Earth or either one of the satellites. There does not appear to be a sliver of darkness anywhere that a shadow should be.

3. This object is either absolutely enormous, or it is much closer to Earth's orbit than it appears.

With that being said, I still have no idea what this might be, but I don't think it is Mercury or Venus.

What else could generate it's own light source ?

That is another interesting question...

OMG ! Could it be a huge meteor or asteroid that NASA is not telling us about ?

Didn't they just start something where they are not telling us of new asteroids found or something like that?

They could have started that so they won't have to explain what this is to us..

a loophole really.....

Just a thought though.
