It's really odd isnt it? I really can''t think of another time the otherwise selfless, brave actions of a person raised so much vitriolic attacks. But they seem totally baseless- whats going on? Whats makes them hate her? They won't answer

Maybe she will be in Israel long enough to experience a Hamas rocket attack first hand. Perhaps then she will realize that the "aid" that she so desperately wants to provide only goes to help Hamas and not the people she is alleging to help.

If she really wanted to help she would pursue the legal means to do so. Any other action on her part should be viewed as support for Hamas. She is seeking attention for the celebrity cause d'jour

The legal way to help the innocent Palestinian citizens of Gaza :

During the Israeli operation in Gaza:
* 37,159 tons of humanitarian aid on 1503 trucks were transferred via the Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings (food, medication and medical supplies)
- Live video feed of the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza
* 1,535,750 liters of heavy duty diesel for the Gaza power station
* 234 tons of gas for domestic use
* 188,000 liters of diesel for UNRWA vehicles and needs
* 3,896 tons of grain, on 98 trucks were transferred via the Karni conveyor belt
* 20 ambulances were donated by the governments of Turkey and Jordan, and 10 ambulances transferred to the Gaza Strip by the ICRC in order to meet the needs of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society
* 449 dual nationals were evacuated via the Erez Crossing
* 68 chronically ill people and their escorts made their way from Gaza to Israel, the West Bank and Jordan
* 37 employees of international organizations and medical staff entered Gaza via the Erez Crossing
* A forward medical clinic was established at Erez by Magen David Adom * Numerous medical movements took place via Rafah, including at least 25 ambulances

Hamas abuse of the humanitarian effort:
* Use of ambulances to mobilize terrorists
* Terrorist tunnel aimed at disrupting the Nahal Oz and Karni crossings
* Launching and firing from the immediate vicinity of international installations (UNRWA hospitals etc.)
* Launching and shooting from within populated areas, schools and homes * Terrorist activities formulated and carried out from mosques, including storage of rockets
* Abuse of the humanitarian recess to launch increased amount of rockets * Prevention of medical evacuation of Palestinians to Israel

If hopping aboard a boat that you know will be stopped makes her brave in the eyes of her supporters, then you need to pony up on the definition of 'brave'.
Brave means courageous.
When I think of Brave I think of:
firefighters, police officers, paramedics, soldiers, good Samaritans, those fighting chronic or terminal illness like the children who face death and still smile everyday while in St. Judes. It takes courage for a blind person to walk to the bus stop everyday. I could go on and on....

McKinney can't hold a candle to these folks. She is just along for a boat ride to nowhere. She has helped no one. Brave, no. Coward, yes.

Legal means to do so, what legal means to do so? You still seem to think International Waters belong to Israel. Until you correct this error in understanding I don't think anyone should take your comments seriously. It's a basic fact that they were in International Waters. Period. It's not worth addressing the other parts of your posts if you elude to facts. International waters are not subject to any nation's laws. Anything else is called piracy. Search it up on Google.

I'm a sailor, I know all about international waters. No action was taken against the craft until it entered the coastal waters of Gaza. They were warned not to enter Gazan coastal waters. They defied the warning and entered and they were stopped.

If they really wanted to help they would follow proper legal channels to do so instead of creating hype and drama.

According to the IDF any organization or country that wishes to transfer humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, can legally do so via the established crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip with prior coordination.

Pretty simple. Many agencies help using the legal means. McKinney and her cronies insist on doing things the hard way just to make the news.

In accordance with internationally recognized agreements between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority[1], the territorial waters off the Gaza coast are under Israeli security control and responsibility. Therefore, foreign vessels will not be permitted to sail in this naval territory.

It may be the hard way, but you cannot say its illegal. They did not obey the IDF, so what? It entered the waters of Gaza, you said so yourself. What's the fuss about? I bet if the news stations didn't spotlight this, we'd probably never see Cynthia and her peers again. Why anyone would expect humanitarians to obey Israel is beyond me, especially when they don't have to. There was nothing illegal about what was done, and that's the end of the discussion. I only wanted to understand where you were coming from with the idea that this was illegal, but now I see you think anything not in accordance with the IDF is illegal? Meh. Not surprising. You're assuming that we're all paranoid of Gaza.

(Jerusalem) – Israel should urgently end its unlawful restrictions on desperately needed humanitarian aid and basic goods entering Gaza, Human Rights Watch said today. Security concerns do not justify overly broad limitations on the delivery of food, fuel, and other essential supplies.

Since the end of major military operations on January 18, 2009, Israel has continued to block the entry of significant amounts of food, fuel, cooking gas, and construction materials into Gaza, as well as access by aid workers.

The restrictions also violate Israel’s duty as an occupying power to safeguard the health and welfare of the occupied population, and amount to collective punishment against the civilian population, Human Rights Watch said.

Israel also rejected a water purification system donated by the government of France. According to Gaza’s water utility, as of February 16, 50,000 residents had no access to piped water, and an additional 100,000 receive water every seven to 10 days. Shipments of spare parts are needed before major repairs can be made, the utility said.

De-mining teams have been unable to destroy or isolate some unexploded Israeli weapons because Israel has denied entry for needed materials and equipment, OCHA reported on February 16.

According to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), 60 percent of the 200,000 schoolchildren attending its Gaza schools are without a full complement of textbooks because Israel has blocked shipments of paper needed to print the books. The UN agency said that Israel also blocked the material needed to make plastic bags for food distribution.

Israel also continues to restrict supplies of industrial diesel fuel used to generate electricity, keeping Gaza’s only power plant operating at two-thirds capacity and exacerbating Gaza’s already severe electricity shortage. So far 312,030 tons of supplies have been delivered to Gaza in 2009. No telling how much of that was kept by Hamas. I don't have any figures on how much money has been channeled into the region.

You want to play the blame game and the your source is not as good as my source game then so be it. You can play those games with yourself. You will always end in a stalemate.

You want to blame someone, blame Hamas. The solution to the problem involves the release of Hamas control over the Palestinian people.

It is a futile effort as long as Hamas allows people to suffer by withholding supplies.

Fact: Neutral parties are legally obligated to abide by this act of sovereignty.

And the thing is, they don't have to. As long as they're against Israel for its atrocities. Look around on ATS, Americans are not as gullible, and they see the Israelis for what they are. This is not about McKinney's character, which you are at no liberty to judge. This is about her wonderful work of humanity, which you hate -- because its actually helping the Gazans. Deal with it and get over your hate for those people.

First of all the coastal waters of Gaza is Palestinian territory and Israel has no legal rights under international law to police it.
