[Central American Coup] Honduran Leader Forced Into Exile

news.bbc.co.uk

Troops in Honduras have ousted the president and flown him out of the country after a power struggle over plans to change the constitution.

After arriving in Costa Rica, deposed President Manuel Zelaya said he had been kidnapped by soldiers in a "coup".

Mr Zelaya, elected for a non-renewable four-year term in 2006, had wanted a vote to extend his time in office.

His arrest came just before the start of a referendum ruled illegal by the Supreme Court and opposed by Congress.

There had also been resistance within Mr Zelaya's own party to the plan for the vote.

From the BBC, but all the major outlets have it. What it looks like right now, is that the President of Honduras was ousted in a military coup this morning, apparently over his moves to rewrite the Honduran constitution. Other links tell more of the story. It looks like the Cuba, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan ambassadors to that country have also been kidnapped. This isn't looking very good at all.

CNN doesn't have the story text yet, but they have a headline above the front page: The Honduran Congress names the president of the Congress, Roberto Micheletti, as provisional president of Honduras.

There's already a wiki page on him, stating he's the disputed provisional president of Honduras.

Just saw the other one. Anybody here should go over there and join the discussion. This needs to be on the front page!
