I would like to ask you, do you know just how much of those health risks are contributed to by smog and pollution?

Active smoking is responsible for close to 90 percent of lung cancer cases;
radon causes 10 percent, occupational exposures to carcinogens account for approximately 9 to 15 percent and outdoor
air pollution 1 to 2 percent

From American Lung Association

I think that makes sense. Smoking is a careless risk towards your health. They limit drinking and driving because it causes injuries, underage drinking because of health problems, they tax soda in some places, and they make other things that are bad for your health like some drugs illegal.

But that's just me. I don't like smoke. I don't know why it's legal to smoke. It shouldn't be, along with tanning, and swimming in pools of radiation. Things that cause cancer in large amounts just shouldn't exist.

I got it!

Cars are way too dangerous. Planes crash, trains derail!!!

Let's make those illegal as well.

Obama, where is my own personal plastic bubble? Wait plastic production is bad for the environment.

What will we do?

Look at Michael Jackson! Prescription drugs kill, ban them all.

In fact life is too dangerous, abortions for all.

WHAT A JOKE.

I bet...if you looked at what she cost the govt, it was many, many more times that of my mom.

I'm truely sorry for your losses. With that said I have no doubt that she did cost more. The only difference is the govt. cannot pass a bill to eliminate those prolonged expenses, however they did pass legislation that will inevidably decrease the effects of tobacco, and I feel it is no coincidence.

You have every right to be angry Ace High. If someone wants to smoke, be my guest. That is your right as an American. Basically what i'm trying to spell out here is that the govt. is taking away our freedom to promote an agenda.

I understand where you are coming from. That is why I was replying to Raven with regard to her post about the many things that should be illegal.

Guess what, I don't even smoke! (Not counting occasional premium cigar
)

Like self-righteous, authoritarians who can't see past the ends of their own noses? When is it your turn? Get in line with an attitude like that. People wanting their chance to lay down decrees for everyone else are the real cancer.

What do you like? I'll lead a campaign to ban it just because.

Well said!

I think that a large problem is date rape. I think all women should be required to wear burkas and have a male relative escort them at all times.

Another problem is religion - we all heard about those wackos that attack abortion clinics - ban them!

An what about the number one killer of all: obesity? Obviously, if we were only allowed to eat moderate amounts of tofu and broccoli then we wouldn't have this problem!

The list goes on and on...

To paraphrase Hans Gruber: "Sooner or later, I will get to something you do care about"

If we continue to ban everything that is unhealthy, unsafe or has a potential for abuse then we will all end up in climate controlled, rubber rooms with nutrition dispensers and treadmills. That doesn't sound like being a free human being to me - it sounds like being a hamster.

Dead Solid Perfect

This is all about control and nothing else. The usual ‘its for your own good’ excuses will be offered up, but only the Stacy statists among us will swallow them. It started with the overly ambitious prohibition, then they began again with age limits for drinking, seat belts, smoking restrictions, etc. Soon it will be regulating everything you put in your body. Total control is the goal.

As ME has been telling us, it’s all about cutting costs. If they weren’t planning on a total takeover of the system, then they wouldn’t be worried about it. You’re not just a number now, you’re an entry on a ledger.

Smokers are "sheeple",

I beg to differ!! People, such as yourself, are the real 'sheeple' of the country because you buy into all the BS concerning things like cigarettes..

What about all the smog & pollution, eh?? Has much more of an affect on us than second hand smoke!!

I would like to ask you, do you know just how much of those health risks are contributed to by smog and pollution? Smoking rates have fallen massively yet cancer and lung problems continue to rise...

Do some investigating and get a grip!! There are numerous more pollutates in the air than cigarette smoke!!

There is probably plenty of people out there that have not smoked anything in their lives walking around with cancer because of second hand and they just dont know it yet.

No........there are probably plenty of people out there that have not smoked anything in their lives walking around with cancer because of pollution, cancer causing agents in the food we eat..stuff we drink...use to clean ourselves, hair, etc.

This is all about government control and nothing else!! Some much for personal freedom!!

moderate smoking, just like red wine, is actually good & healthy...

THAT is why the government is so against smoking, yet they DON'T care about high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame, phytoestrogens, monosodium glutamate, sodium nitrite, fluoride, etc etc etc etc ... you are a fool if you think the government wants you to be healthy.
