Obama: Community service is a national duty

www.google.com

President Barack Obama urged all Americans Thursday to find a way to serve their country this summer.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama did their part at Fort McNair, helping volunteers load 15,000 backpacks with books, healthy snacks and toys for children of the men and women of the armed forces.

"Serving our country is not just something that we should expect our members of our armed forces to do," Obama said, "That's something that we should expect all of us as citizens to do"

I've touch briefly on the topic of "Mandated Voluntarism" but as a perosn who honestly and truly has the respect of those who know me as fair minded, doesn't preach what he doesn't practice and doesn't judge a book by it's cover allowing people to show their good or evil side.

I find this call to duty by this Administration very concerning and very scary. I have never asked for government assistance, if I couldn't afford something I just simply didn't buy it and I vounteer my time to many different things because it makes me feel good.

But to "Mandate" that every person who lives in America, young or old is just as wrong as saying that vaccinating every perosn in America without respecting our "Freewill!"

Well where I come from community service is a punishment.

Maybe being american is a crime in his eyes?

Is there a punishment if you do not obey?

Edit to add: "Serving our country is not just something that we should expect our members of our armed forces to do," Obama said, "That's something that we should expect all of us as citizens to do"

Erm, but military forces are paid!

This is the second time in less than a week that the call to serve has been hailed by the White House. A couple of days ago Michelle made the call and now Obama is echoing the message yet again during a rather pathetic photo op. I support the cause of volunteering in general just not Obama's underlying agenda. Freewill indeed.

I am concerned about this as well. This is merely the first gentle request before our children are sent to Summer work camps as stated by HR 1388. Once again Obama is wasting no time to usher in his agenda.

Michelle's speech.

It'll most likely be a back door punishment like suddenly becoming ineligible for certain loans and licenses and jobs. That way all those who support this crap can continue telling everyone else that this is all "optional."

Oh PAHLEEEEZE! Like Michelle in her french designer sneakers is going to break a sweat? Like she's really going to toil for hours helping people out of the goodness of her heart? Bah!

There is soooooooo much more that I could say ...

This is definately something that should be raising eyebrows in my opinion.

I dont care what is being said by governemnt officials when it comes to excuses, this is a punishment for nothing. So it looks like you could be punished if you do not obey your punishment. Why not just introduce voluntary jail sentences while they are at it?

It will certainly be interesting to see how much people will get into a mess if they refuse to obey.

Maybe Obama would like to recommend that the prisoners do road side service...you know bury dead animals, clean up trash, shrub road sides and clean out ditches...since it cost about $40,000.00 per year per inmate to house them. But...I forgot...they have rights. Sounded too good to be true.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread and posting. The answer to your question is "YES" their will be penalties for not serving under the GIVE act passed and signed by the Adminastraction and "United We Serve". They are refusing to discuss it when asked, they defect the question when presented by reporters and as I posted Monday Judges have recieved a letter instructing them to use "United We Serve" as the only option for community serve within ruling on cases. The penalties will be fines, jail time and possible unlimited detentions. This wording is tucked nicely in the bills and acts that have been passed. Really good stuff Huh!

Hmmmmm .... in the book Atlas Shrugged there was a 'give' act. Corporations were forced to give their goods and services 'to the people' (of course, the gov't controlled it all for 'the good of the people'. Those who invented new things had to sign over the rights to their inventions .. had to 'give' it to to the gov't.

We all know what happened in Atlas Shrugged.

Obama is actually following some of what happened in the book.

Spooky!

While I plainly see the slippery slope, and I agree we are going the way of Socialism fast, I still can't help but support this initiative, or at least the logic behind it!

Our communities are cold and disconnected, our patriotism is dying, our lives are ruled by how to not get sued, and how to not get noticed, and how to not lose our insurance.

It is a cold, litigious society that no longer fosters close-knit communities and people helping people.

Therefore, the idea behind this service is great! It may be abused, and it may turn out to be another of the many nails in the coffin of our freedom, but for now, I support it. I reserve the right to yank my rug of support at the first sign of abuse!

Reality is one hell of a pill to swallow for many. Back when the first threads surfaced regarding Obama's plan for 'volunteerism' many scoffed and blew it off. Then, out of nowhere, the bill moved through congress without a blink amidst one of Obama's many distractions.

Half of the nation probably doesn't even know that this new service law even exists. So, these recent actions by Obama and the Mrs. seem sincere to the masses. However, Obama's community organizers will be knocking on doors by the end of July. Recruitment is well on it's way.

This is one promise he intends to keep.

Man, I know I'm gonna sound like a schmuck, but ya know, I AM. Got that out of the way.

SERVE MY COUNTRY? I serve my country to the tune of about 20 thousand bucks a year in taxes. I work one out of every three days at my job so I can PAY MY TAXES. Ya know what?! I think that's plenty.

I think they should give us a choice, pay taxes, or do some sort of community service. I could pay off my taxes a lot faster working for a hundred bucks an hour picking up trash on the side of the road.

What a joke.

While I'm doing my mandatory community service, one which I shall be penalized if I don't perform, I only have one question: do I get a smoke break?

Whatever, is all I can say to this. I want the government out of my life as much as humanly possible.

I will serve my country by protesting against those trying to destroy it. Aside from that, obama needs to go out, buy a bag of lemons, cut them into quarters, clench down, and start sucking.
