That's exactly why we needed McCain! North Korea threatens to nuke us and he doesn't return the verbal favor. I have reason to believe if this were an in-school situation where Obama had to give his lunch money to a bully, he would continue giving it to him. Start with North Korea and end with the Arabs... the world would be a safer and better place without them and their garbage religon that's destroying this planet. For thos who don't know their history, they may be doomed to repeat it. Like the fall of Rome with the Arabs 2000 thousand years ago, they never quit because they were never forced to; and they'll never stop until they are forced to. Good luck to all the mis-guided Liberals that voted for a spineless jellyfish/whimp that has been too busy apologizing for America's behavior to notice what you have. Maybe Obama can come up with an idea after where nuked? Tax and spent and a lot more control over people... hope you enjoy it. Bush averaged 3000 new jobs a week while in office and Obama is losing 30,000 a week. Blame that on Bush when we had 7 years with no attacks on this country and 7 years of new jobs... the 8th year Congress did nothing and made Bush look inadaquite. Look at all the legislation Congress wouldn't touch while on recess during Bush'e final year... including a budget that would have headed off Barney Frank's inevitable nightmare in the housing industry. The Democratic Congess shut this country down and pulled a fast one over on the nieve... amazing stuff!

The Real IRA would lose all financial assistance from (Irish) Americans if this report is true.

(This is true btw, I was informed about this a year ago)

I don't see why? Irish Americans were quite willing to fund the IRA when they were killing innocent civilians in mainland Britain.

here's the link to your article
www.irishcentral.com...

These "Real IRA) are going against everything the Provisional IRA (the ORIGINAL, TRUE IRA) is trying to do! They're making it harder to unite Ireland! The PIRA put down it's weapons over a decade ago, after signing an agreement with Britain that said that both sides would put down their weapons, and Britain would leave N. Ireland. Granted, Britain hasn't held up it's side of the bargain, but the RIRA have now made sure that Britain won't leave. In fact, because of these attacks, Britain has stepped up it's forces in North Ireland! It's not a fight between Catholics and Protestants, it's actually a fight between the Irish and the Brits.

I know that one of the leaders of the RIRA is Bobby Sands' sister in law, but she is going against what he died trying to do! The Irish who were in prison for protesting against the Brits went on a hunger strike in prison. The prisoners refused to wear the prison clothes and refused the prison food, saying that they were not terrorists, but prisoners of war. There were protesters all over the world supporting the hunger strike, and they refused to end it until the Brits left Ireland. Unfortunately, the Brits refused to back down, and 10 of the hunger strikers died, including Bobby Sands. The others dropped out due to various reasons. Afterward, the Brits and their PM, Margaret Thatcher, claimed a victory for refusing to be bullied, but were seen to be bullies, causing even more of an uprising against them.

The Great Hunger Strike was a peaceful protest, and the RIRA is going against what the strikers did. Therefore, anyone supporting the RIRA, according to many Irish, are traitors to Ireland, whether they know it or not! Sinn Féin had been so close to a political, non-violent solution, and the RIRA ruined it all when they killed those soldiers and the pizza delivery man just before St. Patty's Day. Sinn Féin was about to meet with President Obama and gain his support in the fight, but that was ruined.

Erin Go Bragh! May she be a nation once again, and may it be soon!

(BTW, I side with Sinn Féin, and I prefer the political peace process. I loathe it when people resort to violence.)

I don't see why? Irish Americans were quite willing to fund the IRA when they were killing innocent civilians in mainland Britain.

The IRA is a group of freedom fighters, and never meant to hurt civilians, only those they saw as terrorists against them. It's a war, and civilians always get caught in the crossfires of war. They have since apologized for injuring and killing civillians.
The full statement of apology from the IRA - www.sinnfein.ie...

Articles on it:
www.abc.net.au...
www.cfr.org...
In July 2002, on the 30th anniversary of the 1972 "Bloody Friday" bombings, the IRA startled its sympathizers and enemies alike by offering "sincere apologies and condolences" to the families of its civilian victims.

www.thefreelibrary.com...
The surprise of the IRA apology arises in part from the fact that it was not required by the 1998 Good Friday peace accord between Sinn Fein, the political arm of the IRA, and the Protestant political leaders of Northern Ireland. But it is also surprising because it's so sweeping - encompassing, as it does, the entire sad history of the "troubles."

BTW, the Brits never apologized for the atrocites they've committed, and the civilians they've killed and injured in the war. They've committed TONS more murders, and they don't own up to it. They state that it never happened, when there has been proof!

Take, for instance, Bloody Sunday:
www.bloodysundaytrust.org...
larkspirit.com...

Or how about this? The case of lawyer Pat Finucane - a Catholic lawyer working in North Ireland, taking cases for both sides of the Unionists vs Loyalists struggle:

www.justiceforpatfinucane.org...

Or what about the British trade of Irish Slaves? Selling the "trouble-making" Irish to the Americas, and had them treated worse than the slaves they imported from Africa:
irelandsown.net...
www.kavanaghfamily.com...
afgen.com...
www.scoilgaeilge.org...

Why has history forgotten all of this? Because the Brits hate the Irish and want us to forget this history, and the US was founded by Brits who also hated the Irish, and, therefore, have denied this history.

How long has this fighting been going on? Since the 12th century.

Nice to see apologists for terrorism still exists. This board is well aware I lost a family member to the IRA. Sadly, even the tragic event of 9/11 still hasn't liberated the minds of Americans who believe it is okay to finance terrorism.

If the IRA are freedom fighters, then arguable the Mexicans living "illegal" in the United States are rightful citizens - after all, the Southern Western States were apart of Mexico (which the United States confiscated after the American-Mexican War) We could even mention the same towards Al Qaeda, who've killed coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Are they freedom fighters too?

And if you want to talk about the Irish and British relations, can I mention the Native Americans? Why has history forgotten all of this.... Heck, they were fine when we left. Talk about genocide....

Peace would've occurred in Ireland in the 1960s, but sadly little pathetic Americans decided to fund a terrorism movement You'd be the first to cry if I provided finance to the Mexican drug cartel.

I can highlight numerous examples of America's support for terrorism in Ireland, Latin America and across the world. Don't dish the dirt is so called "*Irish" Americans cannot take it themselves.

*Infinite is Irish through birth right. Unlike 99.9% of "Irish" Americans.

Great research Moonchild!!

The sooner the people realise EXACTLY why the IRA were formed in the first place they mightnt be so critical and would understand the current situation.

The English never see the bigger picture and what they have inflicted on so many nations throughout the ages. Now they are not the plundering armies as before they now get into bed with the Americans.

A leopard never changes its spots!!

this is an interesting story, i didn't see this islamic terrorism link being all that reliable but i went and checked on the belfast newsletters site, they're the original source, and found it compelling reading.

here's a link to the original
story and a related item. the fact that the related story suggests that MI6, despite original interest, have dismissed the guys information, is interesting.

the thing i can't fathom is that his story suggests a link between the lebanese and the real IRA in dublin. i'm quite sure that there are very few lebanese people actually in dublin, or ireland for that matter, although i'll have to go and verify this.

i wonder if the guy is being fed misinformation.

EDIT: why has this been moved to BTS? i find that quite insulting. is irish terrorism not worthy of serious consideration.

Correct me if I'm wrong but did you say that the IRA didn't mean to hurt civilians!!! So when they leave car bombs in city centres or residential areas they are expecting at some point that all the civilians, ordinary families, kids etc, will leave and magically be replaced by armed servicemen. . .Are you kidding me or just seriously mixed up in the head?
My family comes from the north and has history with both sides of this conflict. Neither the British or the Irish terrorists did their reputations any good but lets have it right and not dress terrorism up as some sort of fluffy Robin Hood like fight for freedom because thats just living in cloud cuckoo land. Using your mindset we could justify what the terrorists did to the WTC on 9/11.
Until the good people of the north start to trust the likes of Adams and McGuiness they are going to want to stay British and therefore want the protection of the British government and it's army. What's really going on within these terrorist groups like the RIRA is that their leadership miss the excitement of being in an armed movement. They were once big shots within their communities and now they're languishing on the dole with nothing to occupy their time. They would love to cause trouble but while the peace remains solid all they're likely to achieve by spouting this type of nonsense is their own assassinations.
