Why again was your reason for two FBI agents showing up at the DC Metro crash site when there was no indication of 'criminal activity' or 'terrorism connection' according to Homeland Security?

And did I overlook your comment on the planned military training exercises in the month of June including a train derailment? Isn't the DC Metro sort of like a train riding on rails and isn't this the month of June? Perhaps your sudden indignation was just a little bit overdone, whacker?

Vigilant Guard 09 is a seven-day, multi-state, multi-site simulation, which includes a series of training exercises designed to enhance operational relationships witin FEMA Region VII.

Exercise elements will include a train derailment, response to a foreign animal disease, and support to state agencies due to a manmade, biological release. The purpose of the training event is to identify gaps which may exist between civilian, governmental and military response organizations from participating states. Vigilant Guard 09 is a component of Ardent Sentry 2009 (AS09), a national-level emergency response exercise.

He was retired, just a civilian. To ALL former ANG Generals get a limousine???

Why take his wife on (a) Metro? (Around here we call it just 'Metro').

He had been visiting Bethesda Naval Hospital, with his wife, and they were on their way home to Washington. He had recently had heart surgery. He also liked to go visit the wounded.

It could very well have been operator error as well as faulty computers as stated in numerous articles. This could have been terrorism so why would the FBI not have been sent?

If this once again turns out to be sexting while driving I would give him the chair and make an example out of him.

This is a poor coincidence where a man who worked for his country for 40 was killed and nothing more..nothing less. Sorry

SHE was killed in the accident

Indications are that she had slammed down the "mushroom" handle (the emergency brake). But, from the scene photos, looks like they were on a blind curve, so she had little time to react.

There have been multiple reasons that I have read why this could have occurred.


Local News are keeping close tabs on developments. Suspicion is focusing on the track sensors that detect the trains. In the accident section they found one inop out of six inspected. These sensors, when they work, are supposed to control each train when in automatic mode, and slow or stop the train in order to maintain a minimum of 1200 feet separation.

These sensors have a sketchy past. About ten years ago they were deemed so unreliable that Metro replaced over 11,000 of them system-wide.

All trains are being driven manually, now. (Which, no offense to the drivers, is not very pleasant. Some of them aren't very smooth) -- although in their defense, some of the equipment is getting pretty ratty. The accident train consisted of the oldest cars -- the series 1000 models, and are around 30 years old.
