Why are all you guys calling these dolphins whaen they are WHALES kind of makes your comments seem a bit irrelevant when you cant even get the animal right!

You need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture these are pilot whales calulations and studys show that this equates to around 0.1% of the north atlantic population. It equates to around 30% of the total meat production of the island and everything possible is used.

I wouldnt be at all suprised if these people lead a much cleaner enviromentaly friendly life than most of you people on here.

I agree with the other people who say that if you eat meant you cant complain quite franlyl that just makes you a hypocrite and quite small minded

If all you guys came together and put your efforts into something worthwhile I think something good could be achieved, unfortunatley a good story always wins out

And the EU has the audacity to impose bans on north american seal products. NICE!

I'm also extremely tired of the people that seem to think that plants do not feel, have awareness as well. Go ahead, enjoy your potatoes and keep culling them -no matter how they feel about it. How about eating NOTHING whatsoever? Everything we eat has life inside of it.

"Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life. This is necessary!" (Thanks Tool for the awesome hidden track.)

Fing humans! Sometimes I think the thinkers are really the insane among us.
We have death for ourselves if we fail to feed on others.

It would be a different story if aliens came down and massacred 1000's of us and said "this is just what we do, don't be ignorant!"

I'm in favour eating meat and therefore animals need to die for that to happen....but to kill that many JUST BECUASE they did it the year before?? This is mass madness!

Keep watching the video, you can see several dolphins being killed in the carnage. They are not killing just whales...and even then these people are just killing them just like the early settlers of the new world killed buffalo by the hundreds.

Well, even some indian tribes would lure hundreds of buffalo to stampede off a cliff, and then they would just take what they needed.

No wonder these animals are being hunted into extinction, and then the Europeans want to talk about the crimes of the U.S. when they are blind of their own crimes...

If they are going to eat the meat and not waste it, then I have no quarrel

*except*

To me there is something inherently wrong with eating animals
that have higher intelligence than average.

Don't get me wrong, I have no quarrel with cute or cuddly, just
animals that exhibit a higher than average intelligence. Likewise,
I wouldn't want to eat animals that serve us (or used to serve us) like
horses and dogs, carrier pigeons and the like. That also seems
inherently wrong. If I'm realllly hungry though, and you are a lower life
form, then I WILL eat you.

(Just one more thought, if aliens do exist, and they come visit us,
I HOPE they feel the same way I do. Because, of the many reasons
aliens may land here, IMO usiing us as an interesting food source
would be right at the top of the list. *Okay, I'm going to go off on a tangent...

Think about it. It is highly likely that aliens will take nearly the same
form as we; two eyes (at least) two arms, two legs, several articulating
digits, perhaps similiar senses--like ~taste~. If they are like us, they
are water based life forms, consume bio-mass and liquid and perhaps
get ~jaded~ and begin looking for exotic meats. --insanity warning--

Alien one
"Have you tried Human yet?"

Alien two
"No, I hear it is a delicacy beyond delicacies, but very expensive."

Alien one
"That's what I came here to talk to you about. I have this idea.
We could go into business for ourselves. My associate has
eleven mass-cryo-transports that could easily be retro-fitted
with to bring back hundreds of thousands of humans if we could
only get licensed. I want to have humans declassified as a non-food
source and get them off the list. I mean c'mon, we are talking
about a TASTY meat here. It seems such a shame for it to be
wasted on the black market. If you could swing this thru it could be
HUGE....and ummm, of course you're in for say 20 percent. *wink wink*

lol, sorry

ps. I also want to add that I would make an exception at pigs...
I know they are one of the most intelligent species, but DANG they
shore do taste good

Ok lets get some sense into this thread.

1. Faeroe Island is not Denmark. It is as said before an island which as Greenland is "working" together with Denmark and are getting enormous amounts of money from Denmark to build infrastructure.

2. Most real danish citizen also think this slaughter is a killingspree which should be ended.

3.This ritualistic and feeding slaughtering appears once a year.

4.Stop calling Faeroe Islanders for Danish because they are not, and they do not like it when you call them Danish.

5.It is Grind whales and not dolphins.

6.They eat all the meat from the slaughtering.

Best regards

Loke.:.

ps. Yes i am Danish, and i´m proud of it.

pps. all meat eaters who complain here should start to wonder how their own meat gets made, especially in US where its legal to pump the meat full of drugs to make them bigger and carry more meat.

The Faroe Islands are not part of the EU.

Such a lot of hypocracy here 98.1 million pigs were slaughtered 2002 in the USA after living in appalling conditions.
Pigs are said to have the intelligence of a 3 year old child.
Pigs are the smartest of domesticated animals, with fascinating personalities. They are engaging, curious, social, affectionate, and playful. Scientists have discovered that pigs have surprisingly complex, sophisticated, and agile mental abilities. Pigs can concentrate, think, observe, learn, remember, and communicate. Pigs strategize and compete; they dream and they forgive. They listen to music and they play with toys.

I am a long time vegan because of cruelty in farming.

Then there is the endangered orang-utan all of us responsible for this. I am ashamed of the British company for being part of it.

It's burning season on Indonesia's Sumatra island, where vast tracts of vegetation are being torched and clear-felled to meet the soaring global demand for palm oil. The pace is especially frenzied in the peat swamp forests of the Tripa region, one of the final refuges of the critically endangered orang-utan – and a company owned by one of Britain's most venerable trading groups is among those leading the destructive charge.

Prized for its productiveness and versatility, palm oil is used in everything from lipstick and detergent to chocolate, crisps and biofuels. Indonesia and Malaysia are the world's biggest palm oil producers – but they also shelter the last remaining orang-utans, found only on Sumatra and Borneo islands in the same lowland forests that are being razed to make way for massive plantations

Hi/
People today are not content with the food they already have to eat,
and so their tastes require a new menu.
It's greed,amongst many other things that leads man to do such things!(there are foods that can poison oneself when eaten,but people pay lot's of money to eat it!go figure?)
I cannot understand why there should be people starving in todays society and others merely having
never satisfied with what they have.
There are also people who are too selfish and only think of themselves and their full bellies!
Not only has man destroyed nature,
the animal kingdom,
the oceans and all else living,
Man has also corrupted the earth,
through wars and power to get higher up in the ladder,
man has forgotten what God had said...and therefore man will bring on their OWN destruction.

Man will only be content, when man is no longer human,
but some type of human type, cloned type, robot.
There, is when man's satisfaction lies!
No longer a human, but a living being, with no soul!
~Man wants to destroy God , if not already, we are getting there!
Man wont be content until all is replaced with some type of Beast!
Maybe things would have been alot better if God created animals to be in charge of Humans,
then Life on earth, would not be in the state it is at!
As some already here said eating meat....
It's has nothing to do whether one is a vegetarian or not,or whether they eat meat ,it's about.....
Killing of any living creature in ways as described as being 'barbaric' and therefore,should not be acceptable.

Psalm 104
~Praise to the Sovereign LORD for His Creation and Providence~
Bless the LORD, O my soul!

O LORD my God, You are very great:
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,
Who makes the clouds His chariot,
Who walks on the wings of the wind,
Who makes His angels spirits,
His ministers a flame of fire.

You who laid the foundations of the earth,
So that it should not be moved forever,
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters stood above the mountains.
At Your rebuke they fled;
At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.
They went up over the mountains;
They went down into the valleys,
To the place which You founded for them.
You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,
That they may not return to cover the earth.

He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills.
They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
By them the birds of the heavens have their home;
They sing among the branches.
He waters the hills from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.

He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And vegetation for the service of man,
That he may bring forth food from the earth,
And wine that makes glad the heart of man,
Oil to make his face shine,
And bread which strengthens man’s heart.
The trees of the LORD are full of sap,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
Where the birds make their nests;
The stork has her home in the fir trees.
The high hills are for the wild goats;
The cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers.[a]

He appointed the moon for seasons;
The sun knows its going down.
You make darkness, and it is night,
In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.
The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
When the sun rises, they gather together
And lie down in their dens.
Man goes out to his work
And to his labor until the evening.

O LORD, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all.
The earth is full of Your possessions—
This great and wide sea,
In which are innumerable teeming things,
Living things both small and great.
There the ships sail about;
There is that Leviathan
Which You have made to play there.

These all wait for You,
That You may give them their food in due season.
What You give them they gather in;
You open Your hand, they are filled with good.
You hide Your face, they are troubled;
You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
May the LORD rejoice in His works.
He looks on the earth, and it trembles;
He touches the hills, and they smoke.

I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
May my meditation be sweet to Him;
I will be glad in the LORD.
May sinners be consumed from the earth,
And the wicked be no more.

Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Praise the LORD!

Man hath dominion over creation. Let man provide for his family from that creation. This is their tradition, they do it once a year. I see no difference with this and fishing. It provides whale meat for the whole community and no one profits. I think it is altruistic and good. The human being is designed and meant to be this way...look at our teeth, we do not have the teeth of herbaviores.

The video has now been "removed due to terms of use violation", I actually just got finished showing it to my father a few hours ago. He is a grown man and could not even stand to watch half way through, and was saying 'why oh why' (not in english) throughout the video... seriously, it's not because of the rivers of blood, the graphic nature of it, or even watching these beautiful creatures being cut apart ALIVE, it's simply knowing these are incredibly smart and beautiful things being slaughtered as if they were bugs.

I personally cannot stand the stuff that is done to some animals from chickens to cows to pigs, but this an entirely different level of dissapointment and sadness for these animals. It's somehow different, while in both cases greatly mistreated, this is just heartbreaking to see, because it truly is a slaughter almost no different of a human slaughter..

Why was this removed also? It was uploaded way back in january, months ago.. surely if there was an issue with the video it would have been removed months ago?

Anyways... this is dissapointing to see, though I know it has been going on for possibly decades, I don't believe it was on such a scale as this; and simply seeing a slaughter like this makes it all the more a sick reality then it ever could have been in a cultural history book of sorts. :\

Uh oh, here we go with the bible...

Okay...

The bible states, "Though shalt not kill"

(wait for the apple to fall off the tree or else)

And also there is the part where Cain slew Abel because
Abel's blood sacrifice was greater than Cain's harvest sacrifice.
hmm...

Fact is, we kill animals and eat them. I know some of them have
emotions and feel fear. A cow certainly has emotions--you should
hear a calf call for its mother, or vice-versa, all night long while
you're trying to sleep. Or watch while a a hot branding iron is placed
anywhere near a young calf and see the fear in his eyes.
Anyway...nuff said...pass the gravy

Man may have dominion over animals but do we have the right to treat them as nothing more than factory fodder?
Our intestines are not made for huge consumption of flesh.

Those Whales had a far better life than animals in factory farms. It is the hypocracy of people I find dificult to believe. Is the blood in the sea any worse than the blood on the floor of a slaughter house.

Second...as a dane living in Denmark I have to say....this is not happening in denmark...it's happening in the faeroe islands. Stop blaming us for something that we have nothing to do with.

Third...These people are only taking what they can consume...a thing that has been going on for thousands of years. Quit whining. It's not like they are doing what the japanese are doing...

I'm appalled at all of you people who are appalled.

If you eat meat or use animal products you simply have no leg to
stand on.

The cruelty to mass-farmed chickens and turkeys is ~truly~ appalling
in comparison. These animals live most of their lives in cramped cages,
defecating on top of one another, with their beaks cut off, with their
weak legs not strong enough to support their hormone-induced weight.
Have you ever imagined a slaughterhouse...I PROMISE you would never
regard a "Happy Meal" in the same way after witnessing a cow slaughtered.
How about Lobster? Do you boycott Red Lobster for scalding to death
live lobster?

"I'll take a sub, with ham turkey and roast beef. BTW, did you see what
they do to those whales every year in Greenland? It's barbaric....
Ooops, no dressing, I'm watching my calorie intact. I guess I probably
should have just had the turkey, but..."

I would much rather have lived a free life and died in a five hour slaughter
than lived an entire life confined and tortured and then died in a two
hour slaughter.....

ok my take on the reaction to this :

it seems to me that most so called ` civilized people ` are so far divorced from the reality of food production and how produce is transformed to the sanitized packets on supermarket shelves , in fact they are utttery divorced from most of the workings of the natural world

my advice - get over it , and examine your own life and its impact on the world - instead of critiquing others and demanding changes

Wow, please people. This is a tradition. A hunting tradition. They utilize all parts of the animals they kill among their ENTIRE community. They provide nourishment to many families from this ritual that they take part in. The ones who are complaining are the famillies who have not earned their keep and justly so do not recieve. Local whalers complain??? This is a local whaling tradition. How dare they judge, perhaps, how dare you judge???

Factory fodder??? Do you drink milk? Do you grill steaks on sunday's? How about a hot dog at a ball game? Hell, what do you feed your dog?
I hold this site in high regard but please understand LIFE!!
However,,, I apreciate the happy meal quote... Kudos on that one.
Barbaric as it may seem, we appreciate our carniverous conforts in part to such acts. Judge one judge all. Mirror time
