Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago waaay the heck up there in the arctic. It also happens to be where the so-called "doomsday seed vault" is located.

They've had a 5.4 and a 4.5 today, plus a 5.1 yesterday. All the quakes have a depth of 10 km.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this burst of activity?

Well, there's activity in many places.. Check out the Alaska one that just happened, also.

There's been an increase in the frequency and magnitude of quakes recently from my casual and infrequent observation (a few times per week..)

I have just read this thread ... it seems to me that placing the Doomsday Vault in a geologically unsound area was a remarkably unsound decision.
