one thing I disagree on. A CBG is unlikely to be able to do anything about a launch against unless one of the Aegis ships has a few SM-3's on board. My guess is that crazy kim will launch in the direction of the islands but it will come nowhere close. If they do look like they will hit, the interceptors at Ft Greely will launch

Really, all the US has do to is play a defensive roll and support for SKorean and Japanese ground forces if a skirmish was to ever arise. Skorea and Japan and WAY more advanced than NKorea is and a campaign to Pyongyang with proper support would only take a matter of weeks, at best.

Only problem would be stopping Japan from continuing their march to Beijing.

Hey Fred let me ask you a question what is this? I've seen it posted numerous times with regards to Missile defense of Hawaii. Is it a tracking vessel or a weapons platform that we know little about?


U.S Deploys Missile Interceptors to Hawaii

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he has ordered the U.S. military to take defensive measures should North Korea attempt to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii. Media in Japan is reporting today that North Korea intends to fire a missile "toward" Hawaii.

The defensive measures include deploying ballistic missile interceptors from the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) to the Islands of Hawaii to intercept and destroy any inbound missile from North Korea. “I think we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect American territory,” Gates told reporters at the Pentagon today.

North Korea has previously warned that if any of its missiles were intercepted, North Korea would view it as an act of war. They also said they would immediately retaliate with military force.

That is a mobil defense radar dome. We have several near my house at Buckley Air Force base.

I knew what the dome was or looks like I was wondering about all the other paraphernalia on board there seems to be a lot more than just a dome.

I *think* I know what you mean ; but you should state what you really mean. That is a, seemingly, thoughtless statement.

Japan doesn't need to be inundated with Nuclear Radiation yet again. Those shouldn't be 'favorable winds' to anyone's mind. (Should the unthinkable even occur.)

'Favorable winds' should blow NK's piss and spit right back at them.

Well, I can comfortably say that there (only a guess mind you) are at least 4 MK 15 Phalanx guns and some patriot type of defensive weapons on there as well. Granted, I'm sure there are ample cruiser escorts that fellow this little fella around as well.

Well thank you first off.

I cant help but think by it's appearance that that has been something they have been "working" on for a while. Maybe something that is in the "Experimental" Stage from lack of streamline appearance so to speak. Not that that would deter from it's abilities mind you, but rather that it looks more like a work in progress.

Japan is probited by treaty from maintaining a large freestanding military capable of doing that, they would be dependent on US or UN backups. The UN really is more of an occupying/police force, individual nations within it have their own political and economic ties to China and I doubt they would be willing to send troops.

Japan's economy is worse than the US's, they are in no position to fight a war and they are not stupid enough to want to march to Beijing since that would definitely provoke a severe retaliation from China. China may or may not back up North Korea militarily but let an ancient enemy invade their mainland and I could forsee them using nukes and biowarfare. Both sides have a history of the latter.

Actually Im not sure the PAC-3 has the chops for a true ICBM intercept.

I actually think that they have deployed the THAAD system which has the ability to hit an inbound ICBM

A complete waste of time with that website, he reported in May Obama making plans to attack N.Korea with nukes and that N.Korea was transporting a nuke towards West Coast US mainland. All found to be inaccurate!

Actually the last US Battleships were strickened from the ships list years ago and are rusting away. Now replace Carriers for battleships and you might be onto something
