SEOUL - A North Korean army officer who threw himself on an anti-tank grenade to save hundreds of soldiers in training became the communist country's first hero of this century, the official KCNA news agency said yesterday.

The report was the latest in a recent series detailing heroics that seemed designed to underscore to North Koreans the country's ability to endure adversity after last week's train blast in which 161 people died and hundreds were hurt.

It was also another rare report on an accident in a country that usually keeps disasters under wraps.

A day earlier, local media reported that many North Koreans had died a 'heroic death' after last week's train explosion by running into burning buildings to rescue portraits of Chairman Kim and his late father Kim Il Sung. -- Reuters

There wasn't much detail as to exactly what happened with the grenade, however just knowing that one man gave himself up to save the others, the ultimate sacrifice.

Oh boy, hooray for N Korea. Sounds like they seriously need an administration change.
