FDA claims Cheerios is a drug

www.examiner.com

The FDA has recently made claims that Cheerios is a drug. The claims originates from the labeling on the box of Cheerios which claims that by eating Cheerios for six weeks you can lower your bad cholesterol by up to four percent. The label on the box also includes that by eating two servings of Cheerios twice a day along with a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol you can lower your bad cholesterol. Apparently only drugs that are specifically manufactured and been tested for that purpose can make those claims and Cheerios has not been approved as a drug by the FDA. Clear as mud, r

This is bad news bears everyone, remember good ol' codex alimentarius? Well, this is how it's starting; with our lovely honey wheat crunchy mini donuts. But really, this is starting to happen right now.

This, alone, is a very small issue, but who knows where it'll lead.
Be sure to look over the additional links I posted if you don't know what codex is, or what it's about. There's a lot of bad which can come out of this standard list. I encourage everyone to check it out.

Many cereals say things to this effect.
It's trick advertising, it means because the cereal is healthy, if you eat 2 bowls a day instead of the bacon and egg breakfast and McDonalds dinner your cholesterol levels will start to decrease.
This is the sort of thing prison planet or infowars report, Complete misinformation based on not using logic or common sense.

Hey, eat 2 slices of bread a day, it will make your cholesterol decrease, you see my point.

Isn't this news like a few months old?

Don't we already have multiple threads on the subject? Can a mod do something about this thread please?

I have come to the conclusion that the word "government" is synonymous with another word, STUPID!

I’m not surprised by this one bit.

I haven't yet heard of a "overdose on Cheerios" case, but I am sure there is always a first.

The claims originates from the labeling on the box of Cheerios which claims that by eating Cheerios for six weeks you can lower your bad cholesterol by up to four percent.

How does one classify this typically as a "drug", when there are a lot other breakfast cereals out there that can help with weightloss and controlling cholesterol, like Special K for instance?

Yay! I better go buy some more and fill up my cupboard before the druggies hear of this and buy the whole stock to get a massive high.

Cheerios are like 40% sugar, and that's a drug! It does give you a high.

This tells me the Federal Government has way to much power.

The truth is if you do eat a correct diet and exercise then your cholesterol will decrease.

Nutritional Info for Cheerio's.

As you can see there is nothing misleading about what they are advertising, as long as you do your part.

This is nothing more than the federal government saying, you need to have our big pharam drugs to do anything this claims. When in reality all you need to do to improve your health 10 fold is eat right and exercise.

If memory serves me correctly, the examiner is a supermarket checkout impulse item, that usually goes unpurchased, however, read while they ring up the groceries for the week to pass the time. Finding credibility there is highly unlikely.

I could tell right away as a small child there was something inherently dangerous about cheerios.

When Life cereal advertised that even discerning kids like Mikie could be tricked into eating anything in a box even when it said it was good for you of all things, well, I knew there had to be a serious conspiracy afoot.

So I wisely just said no to cereal. Yes to donuts, scrambled eggs and bacon, bagels and cream cheese, sausage links, pancakes and blueberry muffins and croissants but no to cereal!

Yes people thought I was crazy but now here all these years later I am being proven right!

Thanks for looking out for me big brother, but really, seriously…stop already, I got my own back!

Cheerio old chums!

Does anyone have a mop? I think my brain just melted and oozed out my ears.

So does this mean that if I were to tell you that dieting and proper exercise will help you lose weight and lower you cholesterol I'm actually giving medical advice without any medical license?

Anyone wanna buy a dime bag of Cheerios? Premo stuff man, the best!! Just one O and your cholesterol is gonna be low aaaaallllllll night!

Here from a credible source....

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed the label and labeling of your Cheerios® Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal. FDA's review found serious violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) and the applicable regulations in Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR). You can find copies of the Act and these regulations through links in FDA's home page at www.fda.gov....

Unapproved New Drug

Based on claims made on your product's label, we have determined that your Cheerios® Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal is promoted for conditions that cause it to be a drug because the product is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease. Specifically, your Cheerios® product bears the following claims ort its label:

And they're not only going after them because of the claims to help lower cholesterol, but also for claiming that whole grains as part of a healthy diet may reduce the risk of some cancers....

"Including whole grain as part of a healthy diet may ... [h]elp reduce the risk of certain types of cancers. Regular consumption of whole grains as part of, a low-fat diet reduces the risk for some cancers, especially cancers of the stomach and colon."

Failure to promptly correct the violations specified above may result in enforcement action without further notice. Enforcement action may include seizure of violative products and/or injunction against the manufacturers and distributors of violative products.

www.fda.gov...

Really the FDA is being a bit ridiculus about this
The box doesn't state anything that your own doctor or nutritionist wouldn't tell you. What next vegetables are going to be labeled as drugs because people eat them for the fiber to help keep them regular and help fight cancer

First they tell us that we need to eat better so we can be healthy and when people start listening then they want to start labeling healthy foods as drugs. It's cereal for crap's sake ! How power hungry and stupid are these idiots at the FDA

You can overdose on water sir. Everything in moderation! This is just an attempt at more control of what we eat.

First of all, I dont give a flying F if this was a topic a month ago. I didn't see it, and I'm glad the OP brought it to the attention of everyone who might have missed it.

Hating the government is stupid. It goes to show that corporate propaganda has triumphed over common sense.

The government is the only institution that you can change. You have voice, when it comes to government. Yet, apparently, everything bad that happens is the government's fault.

Never mind the financial services industry -- they crashed the entire world economy, but it's still the governments fault.

Lets not talk about Monsanto monopolizing seed banks. Lets blame the government.

Never mind the defense industry, fleecing the American tax payer to build trillion dollar jets, despite the fact that America has no enemies with an air force.

Never mind Exxon, the most profitable industry to ever exist, accepting billions in tax payer subsidies, where we put the burden of losses on the taxpayer, while privatizing the profits.

Yea, lets just blame everything on the only institution that we have a vote in. Great idea.

OR, we could actually band together, forget the fact that some people vote Dem, some people vote Repub, and some people vote Inde. We can stand together for common sense policies, like reducing government spending, lower taxes, and lead by example instead of by force.

It's either that, or continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh, Al Frank, etc, fight amongst ourselves, and blame everything on the only institution where we have a vote -- a voice -- in how it is run.

Ah, who am I kidding, Americans are far too stupid to do something beneficial for themselves. We're screwed

To everyone who said the topic is old, I just heard about it last night on special report. I know MSM is slow to report usually, but sorry.

I had a source other than the examiner in my OP, check the related links there's an ABC article as well.
Thank you to whomever posted the FDA page though.
