You could be on to something. We go to Dzibilchaltun several times a year and have many a time seen Maya elders playing flutes or chanting for hours on end.

Obviously sound means something.

I would ask, but the only words I know in Maya are
No - ma
water - ah
dog - pick
cat - meez

Don't think that'll get me to far.
