Parents banned from taking pictures of their own children at sports day

www.teleg raph.co.uk

Parents of children at a primary school have been banned from taking pictures of their own children at the annual sports day.

Mrs Ethelston's Church of England Primary School, in Uplyme, Devon, prohibited photos and video filming, claiming it was due to changes in child protection and images legislation.

It is the first time the school has taken such measures.

I personally can't find any reason that a parents shouldn't be able to take pictures fo their own children especially in an open public environment regardless of it's privately held activity, I would be hard pressed to find a law on the books or a jury of my peers that would allow such liberties to be taken way without a public outcry for reform. I guess the reality is most people would be resigned and complacent as fear is building of being seen as a trouble maker or domestic terrorist is being over hyped by our MSM and Governements.
This is outrageous!

Wow! I don't really know what to say...

So out of fear that your child's Rugby match might make it on the Interwebs for pedophiles to wank off to, or that predators might stake-out their victims by blending into a crowd and videotaping/photographing their potential prey, Parliament has decided that no one should photograph or videotape your child, including the parent!

And this is supposed to deter pedophiles and predators how? Do you think that those who break the laws are actually going to abide by this law?

Just when I shake my head at the idiocy of elected officials on this side of the pond and think that it can't get any more asinine, I realize that they've got nothing on the MPs and Lords in the U.K. Parliament! Lead the way and the rest of the world will follow!

Is anyone else tired of hearing the same tired argument of "Think of the Children!" to excuse every lame, ill-conceived notion that some inbred in a position of power happened to have over three or four pints of ale?

I'm starting to have visions of "V", "Equilibrium" and "Children of Men" flashbacks. Even my 12 yr old is seeing things in real time from movies like "Bugs Life" and now "The Minority Report". Hmm, I simply am in need of a DeLorian at the moment... Great post ty

That's absolutely downright disgusting and degrading to the CHILDREN. What if the kids actually want photos and video of them playing? Memories? Maybe?

It's all gone down the tubes. F this world's logic.

Good post. I'm so sick of children being used to further someones agenda. Be it a political ad or a car commerical. Luckily, I can look past that and see what the agenda is but unfortunately most people cannot. It's obvious it's yet another way to control the people, and paves way to prevent people from snapping pictures at let say political rallies/speeches because oh my god there are children onstage, that's wrong you can't do that! But if you can't snap pictures at anything and something controversy is said or done. We all know this isn't designed to protect childrend, because if a pediphile wanted pictures of a kid, they will manage it. I'm just sick of all these stupid little laws/rules being made up all over the place.

edit for spelling.

This makes me laugh.

We had our kids sports day yesterday, plenty or cameras and video cams around as usual, so luckily this ruling hasn't hit us yet.

What gets me is this. if you suspected someone of being a paedophile, would you have them at the sports day? No, not if you had any doubt at all.

So this just says to me, that theres a chance that some parents could use the pics for kiddy porn or something, so no cameras....but we'll let the dodgy parents attend anyway!

You either say no to a particular parent because they alerted your attention, or you let parents take some of the only pics they are going to have of their kids during their school age.

I'm more concerned at how competetive the moms and dads race has become, all the stretching off and elbow barging.....you'd have thought it was the olympics!

And who, pray tell, gave Mrs Ethelston and her Church of England primary
school the "authority" to ban picture-taking ?
Do the parents and relatives have any rights here ?
Is Mrs Ethelston's school free to continue to set new rules and restrictions
as they see fit, whenever they see fit ?

Zero tolerance has crossed the pond too.

They keep taking your rights away disguised as zero tolerance and use
"the children" as the excuse.

It's just that they no longer want to work at being tolerable.
Zero tolerance makes life a little easier . . .for THEM !

Some schools in the states have done this. Because some perv shows up with a telephoto lens to catch a shot of a cheerleaders upskirt schools across the nation prohibit photos at sporting events.

I dont want anything to do with any of these people and it frustrating as hell how many of them are in positions of "authority" over my life.

Before even clicking onto this thread I knew such a farcical story could only comefrom the UK.

I am so sick of the political correctness gone mad attitude of this nation.

In fact, I'm just going to stop this reply and go for a run!

Arrrggghhhh!

i live in the u.k and have 2 kids in primary ....

This is not done out of spite...

it is done because laws changed to protect people's rights .. and guess what? u have the right to take a picture of your kid .. but you do not have the right to have OTHER peoples kids in your pictures... consent would have to be sort from the parents

The logistics of this every school sports day would be a nightmare, gaining consent from every parent ... so they decided no photo's full stop to solve the problem.

I know were they are comming from not sure i would like other people taking photo's of my kids either..

I am not saying i agree with this method, nor do i proclaim to have a solution .. i just know that above is the 'official' reason

As soon as I saw the title I knew it would be the UK.
I am tired of this rubbish we are all subjected to by drama queens.
Now we are all treat like paedophiles.

All this nonsense, political correctness, cotton wool protection and overall over dramatic do gooders remind me of a famous quote.

"it is better that ten innocent men suffer than one guilty man escape"
- Bismarck
Pol Pot made a similar statement.

Absolutely hilarious. This is the fault of the crusader leading the witch hunt against pedo's. Pedophillia has become the modern day witch hunt.

ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!

Castrate them you say, gas them you say, blah blah blah. You all griped and complained until the laws circled back around and leads right to you. This is down right funny and serves you right.

Mark my words, this will be in the USA soon. Its not just Aussie. Ill be laughing then too.

That's a bit presumption to assume everybody was shouting and crying for castration of paedophiles.
Personally I think there needs to be a psychiatric involvement to get to the bottom of why they find children sexually attractive.

Even so, if EVERYONE called for such actions against paedophiles why does that then mean people who aren't paedophiles have to be treat like we are?
The cry out for increased action against paedophiles is because of the joke sentencing and lack of monitoring when they are released back into society.
Monitor the paedophiles, inflict stricter sentencing and make it so they have to receive psychiatric help.

Stop burning the house down to kill a few ants.
